Bleeding early pregnancy

Hi

I’m pretty sure I know the answer to this!

I’ve had 2 miscarriages in the last year. I think I am currently having my third very early miscarriage.

I took a test at 9dpo (I know this is early but i couldn’t help it). It was positive and said 1-2 weeks.

At 12dpo I started having some bleeding. Lasted that day and the next. Not as heavy as a period but definitely more than spotting.

I am now 14dpo and had a clear blue pregnancy test left. I took it thinking it may have gone down to not pregnant and it is 2-3 weeks. I’m just surprised the hormones are still so high. I wouldn’t have expected it to be 2-3 weeks even if I hadn’t bled!

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced anything similar xx

I had an early miscarriage but didn't retest. It was confirmed by hospital. Obv way before covid!

Know this is not helpful just didn't want to leave without commenting.

Hope you are doing okay and all fingers crossed for you.

HKN1 · 26/03/2021 19:39

Thanks for this :)
Pretty sure it’s a miscarriage. Was just surprised the hormone levels have remained so high when it’s still so early and I’ve already bled. Will know in the next couple of days.
Thanks for responding :)

Mine are secondary now op so i might be out of touch but are you registered with a midwife yet or is it too early .Just wondering if you could speak to them .I have 3 Dc"s and had 3 miscarriages and it is really tough .I had bleeding with all my 3 DC"s i do remember having an early scan but i can"t recall how many weeks i was but it was before 12wks .Fingers crossed for you op ,

Spillanelle · 26/03/2021 19:46

I had lots of bleeding throughout the first trimester of my last pregnancy, and it was all fine. You can bleed and it not be a miscarriage but unfortunately it’s just impossible to know at this point. Unless the bleeding gets heavier and it’s obvious that you’re having a miscarriage then I think it would be worth keep testing and if you keep getting positives then phone the GP to see if you can get a referral to EPU.
Sorry, I know this must be really stressful, hope you are okay Flowers

DarlingWithoutYou · 26/03/2021 19:51

I bled right through til 14 weeks when it just stopped. Good luck OP, hope it sticks.

cookielove · 26/03/2021 19:52

Similar happened to me, lots of early miscarriages here too. Last pregnancy i had a positive and then bled for 3 days, I thought that's it another one gone, i tested to see if it was lighter but it was stronger and kept getting stronger.

Eventually after blood tests and a few early scans, there was finally a little baby and now i have a 10 month old! So it can be done

Whatafustercluck · 26/03/2021 19:55

Really don't want to give you false hope op, really not sure what you want to hear.

I bled, heavily (not spotting, enough to insert a tampon) very early (before testing actually, didn't think it was worth testing when the bleeding came). Ds is now 10, very healthy pregnancy from that point on (once I'd plucked up the courage to actually test and no longer thought I was deluding myself.

Really hope you have good news. Flowers

When I was pregnant for the first time (and had no idea I was) I had what seemed like a period starting at the time I was expecting a period. So obviously I thought I wasn’t pregnant. It was very light though, and over in 2 days - in marked contrast to my normal periods. My husband suggested maybe I was pregnant. I was doubtful, but did a test and it was positive.

I had no further bleeding at all. I had a completely normal full-term pregnancy and a very healthy nearly 9lb baby.

I hope it turns out well for you too.

HKN1 · 26/03/2021 20:42

Thank you to everyone who responded! It’s really nice to hear other people’s stories who have been through something similar when there has been a positive outcome. My husband doesn’t really get it (he is trying, bless him!)
I’m not too hopeful about my situation this month but I guess you never know xx

I have had early miscarriages. One of them my hormones continued to increase, despite having definitely lost the pregnancy (I was scammed more than once). I was booked in to have an op, but luckily blood tests showed that my hormone levels had decreased enough not to need it.
If you have miscarried, I would suggest a test in a week or so to ensure your levels have dropped again.
Also, having had three miscarriages you should be eligible for some support and investigation to help you with future pregnancies, including extra scans. So if you are sadly miscarrying this time, I would encourage you to speak to the gp about it.

HKN1 · 26/03/2021 21:20

Yeah I think you’re right, the hormones don’t seem to match what has happened but I’m already fairly certain. My GP has agreed I need to be referred so at least that’s something.
We have one little boy so it’s all a bit strange really as didn’t have this problem last time. As least we have him :)

Sending love OP. I too had bleeding early pregnancy. I had tummy ache and back ache and I was 100% convinced I was having a miscarriage. I had an early scan at six weeks and all was fine xxx

Ellpellwood · 26/03/2021 23:03

I'm sorry if it is a miscarriage, OP. Although I conceived end of Feb 2018 and had a "period" about 10 days later, which resulted in me not bothering to test again. At least, not until the end of March when I ordered eggs for breakfast and couldn't even look at them - bang, 7 weeks pregnant.

HKN1 · 27/03/2021 06:29

Thanks for your comments 😊 it’s nice it worked out for you despite the bleeding as i know it is such a worry! I’ll take another test in a few days and see whether the HCG has started to drop by then xx

Was it red or brown blood that lasted a day or two?

Justmoveonin · 27/03/2021 10:59

I’m on my 4th pregnancy now, only taken home one baby. My miscarriage cycles I had zero bleeding at all. All silent miscarriages. This pregnancy I bled a few days before my AF was due but tested positive. Continued to bleed off and on, and found out it was twins. Doctors not concerned at all, said it’s extremely common.

10 weeks now and still bleeding once a week or so, two heartbeats still going strong and growing on track

gwenneh · 27/03/2021 11:05

I bled heavily in all of my pregnancies. It was terrible at the time but I had 3 successful ones out of 5, so bleeding isn’t always the end. My hormones always progressed upwards normally, so I’ve had the experience you’re having now.

It is scary though.

HKN1 · 27/03/2021 15:59

Thanks for responding 😊
LibertyWX it was reddish/brown. Not like a period red but not brown like old blood either. I’m still getting a tiny bit now and I’m on day 4 after it started so really not looking good at all.
It’s nice to hear the success stories though, thanks for sharing 🥰

Just a quick update. I’ve taken another digital test expecting it to have gone down to 1-2 or not pregnant by now and it’s gone up to 3+. I am still having some spotting so not sure what to make of this? Don’t know if it’s an eptopic pregnancy.

Will call the docs but on my calculations I’m not even 5 weeks yet. My last period was 24th Feb so 5 weeks would be Wednesday. And I ovulate late (ovulated on day 17 rather than day 14).

Bit worried about it all tbh 😬

OP posts:
gwenneh · 29/03/2021 11:26

Not sure what the situation is with covid right now but when I had early bleeding I went straight to the EPU and was given a scan. Is it possible to go? You might not see much but it would at least be possible to rule out an ectopic if they could establish where the pregnancy has started.

FenwickRose · 29/03/2021 11:34

OP I had quite a bit of bleeding with 2 of my pregnancies and both times it was OK and I went on to have my 2 daughters. I have had a miscarriage too. If you can, get yourself down to an Early Pregnancy Assessment unit, they will be able to tell you for sure. The waiting and the uncertainty is not nice. I hope all goes well for you Flowers

HKN1 · 29/03/2021 11:59

Thanks for responding!
I’ve tried to call them a few times but no response, unfortunately. Will keep trying. I would only be 5 weeks so not sure they will see me but I’m just worried about the bleeding and rising hcg as my levels have always dropped with my other miscarriages after I’ve bled 😬

TTC2021x · 02/04/2021 08:46

How are things @HKN1 xx

HKN1 · 02/04/2021 09:25

Hey
Thanks so much for asking.
Still bleeding but hcg levels not going down.
Hospital said I can call back next week and GP will also take a blood test to check where my levels are.
I’ve made peace with the fact I’ve miscarried but just want it to be over as worried this will throw my cycle out for months! Guess it’s just a waiting game 😬 xx

OP posts:
HKN1 · 02/04/2021 09:29

Also the bleeding got much heavier with clots. It has calmed down again now but still coming out. Just want the HCG levels to come down now too. I’ve read a few posts where women have had HCG in their system for ages after a miscarriage so fingers crossed that won’t happen x
