Just that really! Travel board seems to be defunct! I’m looking for a nice hotel to stay 1-2 nights with a spa for 1-2 nights.

Anywhere you would recommend for a treat? I have zero knowledge her having heard of the shard.

I’d also like to do afternoon tea too. Hoping to go end April if reopened if not then end May/June.

I had forgotten about this one www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/england-united-kingdom/great-scotland-yard/lhrub

We stayed there just before all the hotels closed and it was so good, we were delayed checking in by another customer and they served us cocktails to apologise. The breakfast was fantastic too, it’s not been open long.

Am taking note of these and going to check them out on Tripadvisor!

The Shard looks to be completely booked out for April! Looks like I’m not the only one thinking ahead to a night away.

The Shangri La was in an episode of Amazing Hotels a couple of weeks ago, definitely worth a look if you’re thinking of staying there. We had dinner there a couple of years ago and the food was fabulous, we were staying at the intercon at the o2 which is lovely but I’m not sure if it’s 5*.

Skigal86 · 26/03/2021 10:43

@ForeverAintEnough12 I don’t think hotels can open until 17th May, it’s just self contained accommodation from 12th April

Great thread thank you!

Here to also recommend The Corinthia! Such a fantastic hotel, discreet luxury, with fantastic service and the best spa I’ve ever experienced. They also do a nice jazz brunch on Sundays which is nice if it coincides with your stay.

ForeverAintEnough12 · 26/03/2021 11:10

@lurker101 that all sounds great! Loving the variety of brunches/afternoon teas that appear to be on offer. Let’s hope that they all manage to reopen ok.

@Skigal86 ah ok!!! I was just looking for rough prices but maybe they are saying sold out as not opened.

The Savoy is lovely; very elegant.

Buy avoid the restaurant if it’s still Gordon Ramsey’s, not good!

What’s your rough budget @ForeverAintEnough12? There are some great 5* hotels that are £200-250 and those that are £600+ a night

Also do you like modern or classic?

ForeverAintEnough12 · 26/03/2021 20:04

@Jillybons no cap on budget as this is going to be a treat after a hard time but wouldn’t want to go somewhere outrageously fancy with a crazy wealthy clientele as we would feel out of place!

I would say classic would be my favourite style but funnily enough my two favourite hotels where I live are one ultra modern and one old style classic!!

I think that budget with hotels is difficult. We've spent £2,000 per night before, but to be honest for the amount of time we were in the room that has been a bit wasted, as amazing as the hotel and room have been. We now mostly (not always!) tend to go for very well located 4 star hotels as when we're away we're mostly out and spend a lot on restaurants, sightseeing etc.

Hotel stars are only based on the facilities available, not necessarily the quality of the hotel. If you're unlikely to use the 24 hour room service/hotel pool/gym/concierge service for example, you're not going to notice much difference between a 4 and 5 star hotel.

We've stayed at the Intercontinental when we've been at concerts at the O2. The most convenient place ever! Grin
