Posting for traffic - best 5* hotel in London??

ForeverAintEnough12 · 25/03/2021 20:54

Just that really! Travel board seems to be defunct! I’m looking for a nice hotel to stay 1-2 nights with a spa for 1-2 nights.

Anywhere you would recommend for a treat? I have zero knowledge her having heard of the shard.

I’d also like to do afternoon tea too. Hoping to go end April if reopened if not then end May/June.

Hotel 41 (41hotel.com) gets consistently good reviews and, having been there myself, I can recommend it (and have a 2 night stay booked in for July). I don't believe they have their own gym/spa facilities although they offer complementary passes for the local gym.

Verite1 · 25/03/2021 21:11

Claridges best for afternoon tea. I always fancied staying in the Shangra-la at the shard but couldn’t justify £600 per night! If you want 5 * that is cheaper but still lovely, I would recommend south place hotel by Liverpool Street.

FizzyPink · 25/03/2021 21:13

For an amazing spa you want The Corinthia

Lightsabre · 25/03/2021 21:13

Mandarin Oriental - opposite Harvey Nicks- great spa.

Sarah180818 · 25/03/2021 21:15

We stayed at the Shangri-la for our mini moon! It was amazing! By far the best hotel I have ever stayed in!

Mary46 · 25/03/2021 21:19

The views are fab from the Shangri la just had a cocktail there 😄 maybe if I win the lotto ha

JanewaysBun · 25/03/2021 21:21

I like
Claridges - I love art deco (have stayed over)
The Ritz has a nice outdoor area but not sure if that's just drinks.
Sea containers has a lovely view
The rosewood is nice

brushlaptop · 25/03/2021 21:22

Watching this with interest!
Claridges do a lovely Christmas tree at Christmas don't they 🥰

smellyolddog · 25/03/2021 21:22

The ned is beautiful

Foolingaround · 25/03/2021 21:29

The Sanderson is fun, one aldwych too. The Ritz is very traditional, not my cup of tea for staying over. It depends what you want.

LemonRoses · 25/03/2021 21:33

It depends on your taste and the area of a London you want. Classic or modern? Central or happy to be a bit further out?

If you want a spa then The Connaught is nice as is The Rosewood. More boutique then perhaps 45 Park Lane or for a bit of fun The Exhibitionist.

The Four Seasons in Trinity Square is a good corporate. The views from Shard would be amazing.

My personal favourites and where we stay are either a suite at the Riverbank or the Langham. Both offer really good personal service.

PurpleFlower1983 · 25/03/2021 21:36

The Renaissance at St Pancras is amazing, if you get one of their chambers rooms or suites. Superb.

YouAintKingDingALing · 25/03/2021 21:40

The Corinthia
The Sanderson because it is fun as pp said
The Renaissance as another pp said
All fabulous

ForeverAintEnough12 · 25/03/2021 21:46

Thanks all, lots of names there to check out and look into! Getting excited 😃

@LemonRoses I’m not sure of my tastes! Clean, good staff, nice food and a great massage are usually my requirements for a stay away!!

The Park Plaza Westminster. It’s got the Houses of Parliament as a view . It’s got a nice swimming pool, sauna and wet room. It’s got funky lighting.
It’s got an executive lounge you cosy extra for, so you can can get away from the rabble and eat and drink all afternoon for free.
It’s a chain and service is variable but dead handy for a walk down the south bank and perfect if you are coming to London via Waterloo station.

DianaT1969 · 25/03/2021 22:03

The Corinthia meets all your requirements.
A new Belmond hotel is opening too.

charlottemont · 25/03/2021 22:09

The Langham is brilliant

minniemoocher · 25/03/2021 22:13

The Waldorf is more affordable than some of these suggestions. I didn't use the spa though, but amazing breakfast

ghostyslovesheets · 25/03/2021 22:15

I like Sea Containers

Cam2020 · 25/03/2021 22:25

The Corinthia, Sanderson and One Amdwych are all really well located too IMO. They used to do the mad, Hatter's Tea, Party at the Sanderson - no idea of its still going, but it was fun.

ME is also nice - great restaurants and rooftop bar but no spa.

PurpleFlower1983 · 25/03/2021 22:50

Sea Containers is also nice for a getaway and has a couple of very nice bars. DH and I have stayed there a few times. I wouldn’t say it’s as special as some of the other suggestions though but great for a getaway and a good price. The Oxo Tower Restaurant is really close by for a great meal too.

Beketaten · 26/03/2021 01:27

The Berkeley - spa, rooftop pool and fashion-themed Prêt à Portea afternoon tea:

Paquerette · 26/03/2021 09:05

The May Fair Hotel is amazing, and also has a spa. Can recommend The Savoy too, which has a pool and does do treatments, but isn't really a spa.

ForeverAintEnough12 · 26/03/2021 09:08

That afternoon tea looks amazing @Beketaten

Thanks so much to you all for providing ideas!! Problem is they all sound great so now to narrow down the options.

Cant wait for some normality and a night away - making up for several birthdays etc in lockdown hence splashing out on somewhere pricey.

Stayed at a few mentioned above, but the stand-out for being so different is The Shard. But make sure you get a room with the bathtub overlooking London! The Spa is not massive, nor pool, but you don't swim, you just look at the view!
