Got it on in the background and Miranda and Steve Brady are getting married. So Brady is Brady Brady???

And Carrie actually faints because Aleksander is too romantic. I mean really?

I used to love this show but now there are so many wtf moments

He was Brady Hobbes (Hobbs?)

Cheeeeislifenow · 24/03/2021 18:40

No he was brady hobbs.

Cheeseandlobster · 24/03/2021 18:50

Oh ok. Well thats better but I still dont get why you would select that as a name Confused

OP posts:
SpacePotato · 24/03/2021 18:53

Saved using it as a double barrel surname.
I thought it was a good compromise.

Psychonabike · 24/03/2021 18:56

@SpacePotato did they explicitly acknowledge that as the plan? I remember feeling like it happened really clumsily -calling the child Brady before planning how the story would pan out...then we weren't supposed to notice that he was Brady Brady...

Leaninghouse · 24/03/2021 18:56

It was Steve's surname. OHs batshit ex insisted on giving their son her surname as his first name so she could be involved Confused

PutItInNeutral · 24/03/2021 19:00

I have also wondered this. Thank you fir asking this very important question!

GladysTheGroovyMule · 24/03/2021 19:00

He was Brady Hobbs. I’m guessing Miranda kept Hobbs as her surname after she married so Brady kept the name Hobbs too. Why would he need to change his name? Confused

GladysTheGroovyMule · 24/03/2021 19:02

And Carrie is a total bellend and annoyingly dramatic at times. I’d forgotten about the fainting because she does so many other dumb things throughout the series.

happytobemrsg · 24/03/2021 19:02

Definitely Brady Hobbs

JillsFlapjacks · 24/03/2021 19:04

I wonder if Carrie is less of a dickhead in the new series. I don't hold out much hope of that though. I think it'll be a mistake to resurrect it.

PenisBeakerIsMyFavouriteMuppet · 24/03/2021 19:12

Nah, Miranda definitely wouldn’t have given her baby her ex’s name, and wouldn’t have changed her name on marriage.

JackieweaverhasALLtheauthority · 24/03/2021 19:18

I was saying this to dh the other day!! Grin

But no-when they are in the hospital after she gives birth, she says 'let's call him brady hobbs'

Can i say something really mean? The baby playing Brady was SUCH an unattractive child. Blush

Carrie is an ABSOLUTE nobhead-she is just so oincredibly self absorbed and selfish. I don't believe that they would all indulge her the way they do , if it was real life. There would have been a thrfead on here about her and someone would have called her toxic or a narc.Grin

MissTrip82 · 24/03/2021 19:19

Did you really think it was more likely that the kid was called Brady Brady than that Miranda just kept her own name?

Really?

And another poster thinks the producers ‘hoped we wouldn’t notice’ is also more likely than just......a woman keeping her own name?

It’s that unheard of to you?

Unbelievable.

MazekeenSmith · 24/03/2021 19:20

They were not together when he was born, Miranda called him Brady Hobbes to acknowledge Steve's role in his life. They got married but Miranda wouldn't have changed her name and why would she have changed Brady's??

PatchworkElmer · 24/03/2021 19:21

Why are you assuming that he had his father’s surname just because his parents got married?

JackieweaverhasALLtheauthority · 24/03/2021 19:24

erm...because that has been the tradition for 100s of years?

Cheeseandlobster · 24/03/2021 19:27

Fgs. This is a lighthearted thread but maybe I should have been explicit in the title. I am perfectly aware many women keep their own name.

For the others who don't want to be so serious. I have watched a few episodes now and Carrie really is so self centred. Especially with the episode with Charlotte's ring. Who did she think she was expecting Charlotte to "lend" her an item of such great sentimental value as a wedding ring she was still wearing at home

@JackieweaverhasALLtheauthority traditionally in the U.K. at least, babies of unmarried parents were given the mother’s surname. It’s still the default option- if you want the baby to have the father’s name and you’re not married, the father has to ‘acknowledge’ the child.

I’m baffled by the logic that a child given the mother’s surname would automatically get the father’s if they got married. Especially in this instance, where the mother keeps her surname and the child changing theirs would render their name utterly ridiculous...

JackieweaverhasALLtheauthority · 24/03/2021 19:29

and i could never forgive her for the way she treated poor aidan who was such a love...and super dishy too

Cheeseandlobster · 24/03/2021 19:30

And that squeal. Its so grating. Why would you squeal like that at a squirrel in its natual habitat?

I still love Miranda though

@PatchworkElmer
i think you're overthinking this. we are just having a laugh really about a daft tv programme.

If the mother did choose to change her name though that would leave the child / children with a different name altogether. I just think I wouldn't want to rule either option really which i think was the point I was trying to make earlier. If Brady was Sam Hobbs for example then Miranda could have changed both their names or not, but the option would have been available. There are lots of other ways to ensure a father is fully involved without giving a child his surname as a first name

I hated the way she treated Aidan and threw up when she saw the engagement ring. But then I also "get" having a perfect boyfriend on paper but the ick. But she didn't have the ick. Just Shagged Big didn't she? Love SATC for escaping

They weren't even together. Why would she think she would marry Steve in the future? And she probably already knew she would never change her name. Many of us knew that from when we were teenagers :)
