Girls and boys school blazers

If they look the same in terms of colour and logo, are they actually the same e.g. are they unisex or are boys and girls blazers cut differently?

We've been given second hand blazer by neighbour who moved away. I wondered if their Ds's blazers will work for my dd? The sleeves seem very long.

Girls' are usually cut differently. If she's not got boobs she might get away with it though!

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 21/03/2021 10:23

I think they're usually a slightly different cut.

LittleBearPad · 21/03/2021 10:23

The buttons will be on the opposite side.

LobsterDrama · 21/03/2021 10:25

@LittleBearPad

Ohh I had no idea about the buttons, thank you. No boobs yet.

Do girls blazers have inner pockets? The blazers we've been given do have pockets, one with a zip, which seems handy.

It depends where you get them from?

Our local shop and the (ex Tesco still Tesco) embroidery service online both sell blazers by sex and they they are set differently. Some shops do sell unisex, although I suspect they are the same as the 'boys'

The blazer you have been given may be a boys blazer or a unisex but if it fits your DD then it fit. Our kids all roll the sleeves in the blazers anyway, so that's might work.

If you are looking for a cheap blazer try the embroidery service - myclothing.com

They took over from Tesco but it's still Tesco clothes they send out. We use it a lot.

Different cut plus ds's blazer has two vents at the back. Means I can tell them apart when they're hanging up together. And yes, the buttons are on different sides.

How does it fit?

Bunnybigears · 21/03/2021 10:27

They are cut differently and I wouldn't to be honest because these things matter at that age

LobsterDrama · 21/03/2021 10:27

So which side are the boys' buttons? Blush

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 21/03/2021 10:28

And yes, girls and boys blazers have lots of pockets inside

activitythree · 21/03/2021 10:28

Do girls blazers have inner pockets?

Again it depends where you buy it from. There is no set standard for 'a blazer'

activitythree · 21/03/2021 10:30

I completely forgot about the buttons!!

dementedpixie · 21/03/2021 10:30

Have checked buttons:
Dd - right
Ds - left

dementedpixie · 21/03/2021 10:31

The blazers my dcs have have about 4 inner pockets plus 3 outer ones

LobsterDrama · 21/03/2021 10:33

@dementedpixie

Thank you, so sorry to be dense the button holes on the girls blazer are on the left hand side (on the side of the logo)?

Dds blazer is more a tailored jacket.

Translation , it's cut too short and if you size up to get the length the shoulder padding makes them.look like an American.football player.

Onlinedilema · 21/03/2021 10:36

Ours were the same as was the PE kit. I preferred it that way. The shorts weren't tight like most girls shorts and neither were the tops.

dementedpixie · 21/03/2021 10:40

Looking straight at the front of dds blazer the buttons are on the same side as my right arm and that's the side her logo pocket is

With ds's blazer the button holes are on the right along with the logo pocket

I suppose it is confusing as if she was wearing the blazer the buttons are on the left.

Rillington · 21/03/2021 10:42

The boys ones here have a split in the back. Girls ones are more fitted.

The ones we've been given have the boys' buttons then. Ah well.. will have to get a girls' blazer form the school 2nd hand sale then.

How many blazers do they tend to need, is one enough?

Do the sleeves have to be adjusted or do they just roll them up?

OP posts:
Redyoyo · 21/03/2021 10:46

The girls high school blazers here have a black and white stripey lining so they can turn the sleeves up.

olympicsrock · 21/03/2021 11:32

They are the same for boys and girls at our school

PurpleGoose · 21/03/2021 12:03

As a teacher, I very rarely see a student with their blazer buttoned up, so unless you're in a school where they have to wear it buttoned up, I wouldn't worry about the side the buttons are on.

In terms of differences, yes they are cut slightly differently, however this is to accommodate the puberty driven change in body shapes. I'd try it on your daughter, and as long as it fits ok, use it. I have several of my form group who are wearing their opposite sex siblings'/cousin's blazers (they've told me) and no one noticed/cares - they're too busy working out how to get around the hair dye and jewellery rules. 😆

StrawberrySquash · 21/03/2021 12:08

I wouldn't care about buttons. I'd care if it fits well and if your daughter is comfortable in it.

AfternoonToffee · 21/03/2021 12:11

Same here.

I need more pegs to hang out ds's blazer.

Ocsetldil · 21/03/2021 12:12

Boys blazers have the Fart Flap at the back.
