To think President Biden is a worry

seashells11 · 20/03/2021 09:09

He's refusing to chat with Putin (who's requested a live chat this weekend) and actually called him a murderer and threatened "consequences if it's found he interfered in US presidential elections.

I don't like Putin but Biden surely should try and have some kind of relationship with s super power?

Did you think Trump was a good president OP?

Do you know much about the history between the US and Russia?

Biden is taking quite a hard-line approach, but I'm not sure what you're so worried about. It's not like the two countries have been buddies all this time

Potterythrowdown · 20/03/2021 09:19

Ivanka, is that you?

RLJ1905 · 20/03/2021 09:22

It's not worrying. Biden has to do this to show the US has a backbone and won't bend to Russia like Trump did.

pointythings · 20/03/2021 09:23

Why should he have 'a chat' with Putin? Diplomatic relations between the two countries can run through the usual diplomatic channels. I'm glad we have a US president who isn't cosying up to Putin.

seashells11 · 20/03/2021 09:23

No I thought Trump was the worst president ever.

I'm more concerned that he's signing women's hard-won rights away and basically signing the death warrant for women's sport.

crosspelican · 20/03/2021 09:26

You think he's a "worry"? Why should he have a "chat" with Putin? Presidents don't live in this cosy club where they facetime each other at the weekends after breakfast. These things happen through very formal channels, and as Putin's only interest is in maintaining the fiction that the US and Russia are at war so that he can maintain his political control in Russia permanently, what is there to discuss?

siyhack58342 · 20/03/2021 09:26

Can we talk about literally anything on this site without bringing it back to stuff about trans people? FFS.

Yes this concerns me too. Another reason to distrust him.

Putin has got away with murder (literally) poisoning people in our country for a start, the situation in Ukraine, interfering with elections in other countries. He is a bully boy dictator. A public chat with the President of the USA legitimises him & his regime in the eyes of the world.
Biden is taking absolutely the right stance in this.

siyhack58342 · 20/03/2021 09:29

Oh I see, it was going to be a thread about trans people anyway. Awesome.

I'm out, have a good time discussing why Biden should be sending hampers and Xmas cards to Putin

pointythings · 20/03/2021 09:29

As the foster parent of a trans person I am getting intensely tired of all the anti trans stuff that keeps being brought up on MN. Also the bill you are referring to includes massive provision for the prevention of discrimination against gay and lesbian people, so it isn't that simple.

^^^^ this, absolutely.
nancy75 · 20/03/2021 09:31

Look at Trump’s friendly chats with Kim Jong-Un, they achieved nothing other than to give a murderous bastard an air of respectability (and were no doubt used as propaganda in N Korea to show what a great & powerful leader he is)

Emeraldshamrock · 20/03/2021 09:32

I agree with his stance with Russia.
The trip/fall he had yesterday is concerning for a man running the country.

CreosoteQueen · 20/03/2021 09:33

No. It’s about time US presidents stopped pandering to tyrants.

No the thread is about US Russia relations.

It’s political posturing like poster said above he need to readjust the relationship

He isn’t about boosting egos so he gets his boosted in return either

We hear so little about him in comparison to Trump he isn’t as entertaining abs just getting on with the job isn’t that what the US needs ?

StocksAndScares · 20/03/2021 09:34

The sports bill will have catastrophic effects on women worldwide. If women can no longer define themselves, or talk about their rights, then they have lost everything they have worked so hard for.

zzizzer · 20/03/2021 09:35

Well they were never going to be BFFs.

In one sense, the whole Trump scenario was reassuring in one way: he was batshit crazy but we didn't end up in the apocalypse.

So clearly whoever is in charge doesn't actually call the shots on going to war.

Its whoever's pulling the strings behind them who we should worry about.

Which is not reassuring at all of course.

siyhack58342 · 20/03/2021 09:36

@seashells11 if it is, you haven't given much more detail on why you think it's a bad idea that Biden isn't making nice with Putin. What do you think Biden should be doing?

zzizzer · 20/03/2021 09:36

(And same with the women in sports issues - it's probably not Biden or Harris who came up with that bright idea, but the powerful funders behind them...)

ssd · 20/03/2021 09:38

So, whats the sports bill in a nutshell?

seashells11 · 20/03/2021 09:40

In one sense, the whole Trump scenario was reassuring in one way: he was batshit crazy but we didn't end up in the apocalypse.

This is the route of my worry. I've always had a fear of war. I worried myself sick when Trump was in charge, but nothing happened. Now my worry has transferred to Biden. He's not such an open book itms.

It's the fear of a war basically.
