To think President Biden is a worry

He's refusing to chat with Putin (who's requested a live chat this weekend) and actually called him a murderer and threatened "consequences if it's found he interfered in US presidential elections.

I don't like Putin but Biden surely should try and have some kind of relationship with s super power?

@pointythings but standing up for women and their rights isn't anti trans.

BrumBoo · 20/03/2021 09:43

@pointythings

As the foster parent of a trans person I am getting intensely tired of all the anti trans stuff that keeps being brought up on MN. Also the bill you are referring to includes massive provision for the prevention of discrimination against gay and lesbian people, so it isn't that simple.
Seeing and fighting against sex based rights being removed is not 'anti trans stuff', @pointythings. Insisting that female sport is 'gender inclusive' is completely unfair to biological girls and women, not everything is about being 'transphobic' Hmm.

Trump was pretty keen to start a war with Iran, that looked pretty worrying tbh

zoemum2006 · 20/03/2021 09:48

Russia isn't a superpower. Putin and his cronies robbed the Russian people blind. The only way Russia has any power now is by infiltrating other countries, either through the billions they stole from Russia or through social media.

Cornettoninja · 20/03/2021 09:48

Let’s face it, candidates for leaders of the worlds super powers have been severely lacking for the past few years. Putin is old school and I don’t think any of our current leaders are quite up to dealing with him or his cohort in a way that isn’t terrifying for the rest of us.

Trump was an arse. However, he was the only President of recent times NOT to start any conflicts outside of the US. Biden is far more likely to start a conflict somewhere or get involved in someone else's war.
7Days · 20/03/2021 09:51

I hope he is as hardline with China.

Though its mad, even that is becoming a front in the culture war

siyhack58342 · 20/03/2021 09:54

@BrumBoo agree in principle - it was more or less the only thing I thought was 'good' about trump, much less interventionist than previous US presidents. But he did send drones to kill Iran's top military commander, which was out of step with his previous actions and pretty aggressive I thought

OliverBabish · 20/03/2021 09:54

I thought this was going to be a thread about him falling up AF1 stairs Grin I was coming to defend him - ‘‘twas clearly a case of very polished shoes with no grip and the world’s softest carpet Grin

@Emeraldshamrock

I agree with his stance with Russia. The trip/fall he had yesterday is concerning for a man running the country.
He broke his foot a matter of weeks ago. He’s bound to have a limp or some remnant from that. I am thirty years his junior and a clumsy bugger so I trip and fall all the time. Doesn’t make me incompetent.
nancy75 · 20/03/2021 11:19

The trip on the stairs is irrelevant, I’m sure we’ve all done it at some point - we just weren’t unlucky enough to have the worlds media watching us.
At 37 my DH tripped walking down a perfectly flat road & broke his leg!

Biden will be a damp squib. How’s the vaccine roll out going on his watch? I don’t think he will be a good president, just better than Trump. I do think Trump will get in if he runs again though. Biden is a bit too left and some of his decisions will rub blue collar Americans up the wrong way very quickly. He’s as out of touch as Trump was. Don’t think he’s not.

pointythings · 20/03/2021 12:18

How’s the vaccine roll out going on his watch?

Rather better than it went under Trump. He set a target of 100 million vaccines in 100 days and hit it at day 38.

I think his COVID recovery package is going to make a lot of blue collar Americans realise that he genuinely means to support them instead of just putting in tax cuts for the very rich.

Trump won't run again. Dementia is a progressive illness.

nancy75 · 20/03/2021 13:08

Biden is what America needed, a calm, normal person.
Trump won’t be President in 4 years - his social media ban has effectively silenced him - his die hard fans will have moved in to something else by then. Add to that the possibility of legal problems in a number of states & his clearly declining health (dementia or drug use?)

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 20/03/2021 13:24

Putin is a dictator and leads a government that poisoned someone on UK soil. Murderer is an appropriate term for him.

The concerns I have about Biden is if ill-health makes him a lame duck president, and his policies on self ID.

DrManhattan · 20/03/2021 13:50

Should be at home putting his feet up.
Millions and millions of Americans and he's the best they can come up with

Yes it's ridiculous, I agree.....and why should you have to be a multi millionaire to run for presidency. I think that's the route of the problem.

Nightbear · 20/03/2021 14:05

If Biden made statements like that about Putin and Russia it’s part of a considered policy change rather than shit that just fell out of his mouth (the Trump approach.)

seashells11 · 20/03/2021 15:39

I just wondered what "the consequences" would be if it was clear that they'd interfered in the elections.

OP posts:
SerendipityJane · 20/03/2021 15:44

The people most worried right now are the Tory party and their shady donors. Putin may very well sell them out as a means to get in with the US again and as a squirrel to detract from Trump. Who may well have been a Russian mole.

Is one possible view ....
