To hate - I was today years old

This phrase is everywhere and it's driving me insane.

You were not today years old when you found out 😡 you found out today

Does this annoy anyone else or am I just turning j to the grumpy old woman I was born to be? Are there any other words or phrases drive you insane??

Yanbu. I hate that too.

I hate 'I'm dead', when someone posts something the reader finds amusing. I just instantly think, what a wanker.

DrWankincense · 17/03/2021 07:02

I'll be a grumpy old woman too.
I don't really like 'my bad' or describing good things as 'sick'.
I'm sure I use phrases that annoy people too 😁

LApprentiSorcier · 17/03/2021 07:03

I hate 'until it didn't/wasn't' etc.

I.e. I was happy in my marriage until I wasn't.
The treatment worked until it didn't.

I've noticed this formula infiltrating a lot of recently published books and it's annoying. It's not clever, it's not funny, it's just lazy.

Amen to this

As a TAAT this will go. I didn't read that thread because I didn't know what it even meant. I kept rereading the title to see if I was reading it wrong. What does it mean? Like I got to 35 and only found this out today....

This annoys me just reading it now 😂
ChelseaCat · 17/03/2021 07:06

I hate “This”

Or pictures of your husband/child/aunt/rabbit etc with the caption “this one”

TheQueef · 17/03/2021 07:08

It reads like a filler word for an individual to fill in.
It just scans wrong.
Ban it Grin

Cam2020 · 17/03/2021 07:08

YANBU 😠

PivotPivotPivottt · 17/03/2021 07:08

I hate it too and also agree with the poster who said 'I'm dead'. Also hate 'I'm weak and when people write 'crying' 'screaming' 'howling'. Doesn't bother me if they write 'I'm howling' etc but when it's just the one word statement it annoys me Blush

ScarlettDarling · 17/03/2021 07:09

I’ve never heard that phrase before today. When I saw that thread I thought it was a typo! It doesn’t make any sense...what’s it supposed to mean?

TheQueef · 17/03/2021 07:13

Today I learned...
Scarlet

UsedUpUsername · 17/03/2021 07:13

I don’t know, it was kind of funny at first 🤷‍♀️ but seeing it on MN made it awkward now

Neap · 17/03/2021 07:13

I had never seen this before the other thread title. It seems as if it comes from the same stable as ‘My bad’ and ‘Five more sleeps till my holibobs!’

23PissOffAvenueWF · 17/03/2021 07:13

When I read / hear someone saying ‘I was today years old...’ I invariably think - ‘what a thicko, how could you not know that, and why are you broadcasting it to everyone?’

IsolaPribby · 17/03/2021 07:14

I saw that phrase in a thread and assumed it was a typo. I have never heard it before, and never intend to use it. I don't think I will give it any more headspace than that.

ExhaustedFlamingo · 17/03/2021 07:25

Yes. I saw that thread and instantly eye-rolled at the phrase.

All of the other phrases listed on this thread irritate me too.

Also, bizarrely, the word "chillax". It makes me want to do the opposite and punch people.

I'm clearly a grumpy old cow 😅

standingonaseesaw · 17/03/2021 07:28

I had never heard it before, but I thought it was ridiculous when I saw it.
The phrase I hate is on social media announcements of a child’s birthday ‘and just like that, they’re 8!’ etc. No! Not just like that, 8 years is a long time!!!

FamilyOfAliens · 17/03/2021 07:30

And “be like”.

But they will pass, like all popular expressions of the time.

And then anyone who uses them will be mercilessly laughed at for being behind the curve.

VinterKvinna · 17/03/2021 07:30

I hate 'discuss', what else will we do??

and 'reader,...' I know who you are talking to you idiot

Fedupmiddleagedwoman · 17/03/2021 07:33

I hate it too. I saw it on a different thread and assumed it was a typo

macaronirabbit · 17/03/2021 07:33

I'd never heard of it. I had to read the title of the thread multiple times

BrumBoo · 17/03/2021 07:34

I hate 'and I am here for it' - 'zeleb is wearing double denim again and I am here for it'.

Also 'stanning' - not only is it utterly redundant, it celebrates a song about domestic violence and murder.

The Buzzfeed generation are absolutely destroying the English language.

DinosaurDiana · 17/03/2021 07:34

I’ve never heard it either.

ufucoffee · 17/03/2021 07:37

I really really really hate 'my bad'. Your bad what? I also hate even more when asked 'how are you?' the response is 'I'm good'. Good at what? I'm angry just writing those
