Today has been the days of all days.

I woke up to a text to let me know I have corona virus, I'm suffering pretty bad with it. I'll only receive sick pay.

My council tax bill came in and I have to pay £168 per month 😂 on a single parents wage. I live in a council house for gods sake, that's my whole food budget.

Got a new maintenance calculation. My ex now only has to pay £5.08 per week for 3 children!

I just give up. I don't want to do this anymore, I cannot go on living like this. I cannot keep robbing Peter to pay Paul

Are you eligible for Council Tax Reduction?

Vickles20 · 10/03/2021 16:56

That’s so shit. I’m sorry life is so hard. No wonder you feel you do.
Listen. I think. Deal with one thing at a time. Otherwise it will overcome you love.
Please take care of yourself. Concentrate on getting better. Then, you will find a way to tackling the shit storm. When you’re strong enough. You can do this. Just not today. Give yourself a break xxx

HollowTalk · 10/03/2021 16:59

That sounds really tough. Are you sure your council tax bill is right - are you in arrears or something? It seems very high. I hope you feel better soon.

GladysTheGroovyMule · 10/03/2021 17:00

Is that £168 a month with the 25% single persons reduction?! Your ex is a shit for paying so little child support- sadly there’s a lot of that about.

I hope you get better soon OP.

LakieLady · 10/03/2021 17:06

Make sure you're getting your 25% single occupier discount on the council tax and go on to one of the online benefit calculators to see if you're entitled to UC. If you're only getting statutory sick pay, you should be entitled to some help.

If you're entitled to UC, you might also be entitled to help from the council towards your council tax, in addition to the 25% discount.

slidingdrawers · 10/03/2021 17:09

Do you claim UC? If so you may be entitled to the £500 NHS T&T payment as you've tested positive. You claim it via UC. Rest up and I hope you are feeling better soon.

ghostyslovesheets · 10/03/2021 17:11

Yes apply for your discount (although even with it mine is £100+) - get your tax credits and also see if you can apply for support with being off with Covid - I think there is money available?

this is what I was waffling about!

I think it seems high, too, which is why I asked about the single person discount.

My council has the 4th highest council tax in the country, and mine is just under £1,500 pa with the discount (band C property).

This is just criminal. Sorry you're struggling OP. At least you have essentially abandoned your children like your ex has.

LaceyBetty · 10/03/2021 17:36

*haven't !!!!!

Wishitsnows · 10/03/2021 17:38

Request to spread the council tax over 12 months rather than 10

Wishitsnows · 10/03/2021 17:39

And your ex is a twat of the highest order

May17th · 10/03/2021 17:39

Are you receiving the correct amount of money OP? Can you check to see if you qualify for help towards your rent and Council tax benefits?

Okbussitout · 10/03/2021 17:49

This sounds tough. How come your ex needs to pay a fiver for 3 kids?

Try not to worry about lots at once while you're really ill. Get better and then start to plan to tackle the rest. But also it's ok to have shitty overwhelming days. Sorry love Flowers

Lynora · 10/03/2021 18:51

Can you apply for the £500 support payment while you are off with Covid?

Lynora · 10/03/2021 18:53

www.gov.uk/test-and-trace-support-payment

CatherineCawood · 10/03/2021 18:56

Your ex is an absolute shite. No wonder he is an ex. Sorry your life is tough at the moment.

I hope you feel better soon.

Youllbeoldertoo · 10/03/2021 18:56

That’s ridiculous! Can you talk to someone at the council?

PomPomSugar · 10/03/2021 18:59

Last years council tax for us was £168 a month, I am dreading the new bill coming in! We are in a very small three bed terraced house.

Ozziewoz · 10/03/2021 18:59

I f your earnings are down then your tax credits and benefits to support ought to go up. If you are literally struggling, it is well worth speaking to citizens advice. Food banks can help with food supplies etc.

Nsky · 10/03/2021 19:02

Hence the re introduction of polll tax by person far fairer

Lynora · 10/03/2021 19:04

That went well last time.
Serin · 10/03/2021 19:11

I'm sorry you are having such a hard time and hope your symptoms are mild. Test and Trace will be in touch, make sure you tell them that you are struggling as they can advise you of practical and financial help in the short term.
Long term, it seems ridiculous that your ex pays £20 a month for 3 children. I couldn't keep a cat on that. I too would also be contacting Citizens Advice to see if they can point you in the direction of additional benefits, also the DC's school may be able to assist with funding for certain things via pupil premium.
For now just focus on getting well.Flowers

ijustgiveup · 10/03/2021 21:58

Do sorry for the late reply. I have been asleep in bed all day, I'm so sick!
