Knighthood for Alex Beresford

Thedogscollar · 09/03/2021 19:40

Aibu in suggesting, in a lighthearted manner, that Alex Beresford should be considered for a knighthood for services to journalism and humanity in general?

Of all the people it was Alex the weatherman that was the slayer of PM.

I'll sign that pet

Barmbraic · 09/03/2021 20:06

*petition

Sparklingbrook · 09/03/2021 20:18

The vote doesn't seem to agree...

Thedogscollar · 09/03/2021 20:26

@Sparklingbrook Maybe PM stalks Mumsnet and is voting Grin

I'm not fussed either way. I'm just relieved the Piers show is over.

Mmm. I wouldn't imagine he does.

Anycrispsleft · 09/03/2021 20:31

I thought he was brilliant. You could tell he'd just absolutely reached his limit with Morgan's bullshit. But even so, it can't have been easy to speak out. I'll sign that petition!

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 09/03/2021 20:31

I am interested in the working environment for him, on a show where the anchor was consistently and repeatedly racist, with his fake Chinese language, etc etc. And also why Charlotte Hawkins was subjected to being told to stand up so that he could go in about her ‘mini skirt’ and why the director of the show allowed the camera to focus on her legs.

They should both put in a grievance. ITV have no business allowing such a toxic working environment.

Alex Beresford was magnificent in the way he spoke up this morning.

littlepattilou · 09/03/2021 20:32

Well I had never thought about it before! But I do like him, so I will sign it! Smile

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 09/03/2021 20:34

Imagine being Charlotte Hawkins and being humiliated by that dinosaur live on air with the imbalance of power.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 09/03/2021 21:41

Are we getting our very own Obama v Trump narrative? Just kidding. Yes, I'll sign.

MajorMujer · 09/03/2021 21:48

Count me in.

VladmirsPoutine · 09/03/2021 21:51

I wonder whether this it's all some bizarre type of improv.

Hopefully Sussanah out next.

Thedogscollar · 09/03/2021 22:07

@VladmirsPoutine.
Yes SR would be no great loss either tbh.

PM was the architect of his own demise.
No doubt he will unleash a tirade in the Daily Fail.

Morgan the snowflake, throwing his toys out of the pram as soon as someone challenges him. He simply did not have the balls to apologise and couldn't face the humiliation of being slaughtered by Alex the weatherman 😂😂

Get rid of the royal family and put Alex as head of state.

FlipFlapFlop1980 · 09/03/2021 22:33

He should be made anchor on that program.

thatslovelydear · 09/03/2021 22:36

What did he say to Charlotte Hawkins?

Notjustanymum · 11/03/2021 09:20

It’s a bit odd, petitioning for an honour (traditionally bestowed by the Queen) for a man who stood up for Meghan (rightly), just after she has had an “explosive” interview that has apparently damaged the Royal Family...

Why of all people?? Because he was a weatherman? That shouldn't mean he cant have his own views and it willing to stand up for them.

Exactly. A very odd proposition.
Loopyloututu2 · 11/03/2021 12:19

No, I thought it was absolutely right that some of the comments made in the H&M interview were questioned. The weatherman had a right to voice his opinions also of course but I don’t think everything he was saying was right. He seemed a little ill-informed to me (for instance he didn’t know what to say when asked whether he agreed that Archie wouldn’t have necessarily been given a title no matter his skin colour - he just said “I don’t know about royal protocol”). Also I agree with PM that just because someone claims they are suicidal it shouldn’t mean they can then make unfounded accusations of racism with no proof or context, and expect it not to be discussed or questioned.
I agree that PM is an annoying arse and I’m glad he’s gone - I hate the way he shouts over people - but that doesn’t mean that the other guy was some kind of hero and correct in everything he said.

And no, of course he doesn’t deserve a knighthood - what has he actually done apart from having an argument with a rather nasty man?

I DO think Susannah Reid deserves some kind of award form sitting next to that odious twerp for however many years.

NoMackerelInSwindon · 11/03/2021 12:35

Weird thread.

Mary46 · 11/03/2021 12:53

Yes he stood up to PM. God he obnoxious talking over people. Alex was very professional. Had boss like that entitled and arrogant

MiddleClassProblem · 11/03/2021 13:00

What Alex said about PM having a grudge against Megan was completely true due to her not wanting to befriend him. Most people who have worked for daytime tv shows at ITV know this, as do many in the industry.

Spidey66 · 11/03/2021 13:00

Good on him. He showed PM up good and proper. PM was getting soo boring with all the MM shit.

Eskarina1 · 11/03/2021 13:02

It's not the first time he's stood up to him, something similar happened last year. If not a knighthood, he deserves some recognition for articulating what a lot of people feel.

Piers Morgan didn't happen in isolation. There are questions to answer about why ITV chose him, why Susannah Reid felt she had to sit their and not challenge him. One of the articles on this today detailed PMs "friendship" with Meghan Markle as once spending two hours in a pub together. So an attractive actress spends two hours with a journalist and never calls him and he spends 5 years trashing her publicly at every opportunity he can. That's creepy as hell and ITV allowed that.

If he'd said sorry, they'd have kept him.
