One minute(s) or ten minutes?

My friend sent me this today saying ‘You’d think they could at least proofread a poster about reading’. I kept staring at it, wondering why I couldn’t see the mistake. I asked her what I was missing and she replied, ‘It says one minutes!’

I said I could see why she thought that, but that the clock is supposed to be a zero - meaning it actually says 10 minutes. She thinks I’m wrong and the clock is just a clock. I say there’s no way a school is encouraging parents to read to their children for one minute(s) a day!

YABU - She’s right; that’s just a clock
YANBU - You’re right; the clock is a zero

One minute(s) or ten minutes?

Yes, the clock is a zero.

Ileflottante · 25/02/2021 15:47

It’s clearly ten minutes.

AaronPurr · 25/02/2021 15:47

Definitely supposed to be a zero. Otherwise it would be 1 minute, the fact it's minutes, plural means it's 10.

I can't imagine anyone agreeing with your friend.

StuntCroissant · 25/02/2021 15:47

It says 10. YANBU.

terraclutter · 25/02/2021 15:47

Yep, clock is zero.

User1511 · 25/02/2021 15:47

Who shares a story for 1 minute anyway? 🙄🤣

Sparklfairy · 25/02/2021 15:47

As if they're saying you should read to your child for only one minute Hmm

AryaStarkWolf · 25/02/2021 15:48

Yep 10 minutes

AryaStarkWolf · 25/02/2021 15:50

Plus the clock is at 10 past the hour it looks like, further showing 10 minutes?

LondonStone · 25/02/2021 15:50

As a reception teacher I probably said the phrase “reading for 10 minutes a day” 5000 times in my life. Your friend is wrong, it’s definitely 100% meant to be 10 minutes!

StillCoughingandLaughing · 25/02/2021 15:50

@User1511

Who shares a story for 1 minute anyway? 🙄🤣
Exactly - I’ve heard of a short story, but that’s ridiculous Grin

It's meant to be 10 and that's what the designer intended, clearly, because what school encourages 1 minute reading.

But it's poorly designed and looks like 1 minutes.

I don't think it looks like 1 minute(s) at all
ifitpleasesandsparkles · 25/02/2021 16:00

Your friend is proper daft. It's 10 minutes and the clock is the zero.

FossilisedFanny · 25/02/2021 16:02

Quite clearly 10 minutes, your friend is a Wally !

MatildaStoker · 25/02/2021 16:04

I have to confess, when I just glanced at it quickly I thought it said 1 minutes as well.

But 10 minutes does make more sense given the context.

PatriciaHolm · 25/02/2021 16:08

Its 10 minutes - there are even 10 minutes showing on the hands on the clock!

IliveonCoffee · 25/02/2021 16:08

10 minutes makes sense, and I'm sure that's what they were going for...but I saw 1 minutes first.

So not proof reading but mild design error. They could have made it more zero shaped and bold on the lines to connect it better to the 1.

DDiva · 25/02/2021 16:26

Took me a minutes to see it but yes the clock is a zero Wink

MuddleMoo · 25/02/2021 16:26

Who reads to their kid for 1 minute a day? You'd not bother if it was that little!

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 25/02/2021 16:30

10 , your right

FelicityBob · 25/02/2021 16:32

It’s not particularly well done, the outline of the clock needs to be darker, but of course it’s ten minutes

YoComoManzanas · 25/02/2021 16:35

Well the kerning between the numbers is slightly off. But she's a wally. Most people would figure out it's 10minutes.

YoComoManzanas · 25/02/2021 16:36

Oh god is it world book day again? Tell me its before the 8th of April so I don't need to fork out for costumes.

TheChip · 25/02/2021 16:38

Your friend could clearly do with her 10 minutes reading a day Grin
