Any rolled oats. We usually get Scots but cheap is just as good.

GracieLouFreebushh · 21/02/2021 17:28

Bigger the better - flahavans Irish porridge oats are good!!

GettingAwayWithIt · 21/02/2021 17:29

Sainsbury’s taste the difference jumbo rolled oats. Beautiful!

ChonkyChook · 21/02/2021 17:30

Agree with rolled.

We love porridge, so versatile and easy. I do get the ready measured sachets for the kids though so they can make their own if they are hungry.

Neapolitanicecream · 21/02/2021 17:30

Don’t get anything oats from Sainsbury’s especially not the own brands as it tastes like dirt in it absolutely horrible

pickingdaisies · 21/02/2021 17:32

Flahavans without question. Creamy, delicious. I cook mine with water, DH has milk, we both love them. The jumbo oats take forever to cook and the bags are quite similar, so check you've got the regular ones. (Lovely thick paper bags)

Woeismethischristmas · 21/02/2021 17:32

I like Scots oats too they give a really nice texture to the porridge. It’s normally 3 quid for two boxes so not that expensive.

Lincslady53 · 21/02/2021 17:45

Kavanaghs Organic from Aldi. £1.49 for a big bag.

We also love Flahavans - they’re definitely the best

Jumbo or old fashioned because they cook quickly but have texture. Cook in a couple mins in microwave or but longer on stove.

Standard oats are too wallpaper paste like. instant oats even worse.

Pinhead or steel cut are delicious but need longer stove top cooking so often not practical.

thegcatsmother · 21/02/2021 17:49

Scots are what I buy.

Professionallytorn · 21/02/2021 17:53

Another vote for Flahavans, in my view well worth the extra money for the taste / quality

CandidaAlbicans2 · 21/02/2021 17:58

Any rolled oats will do, they're all the same aren't they? I buy supermarket own brand and it makes lovely porridge.

P.S. You don't need to post in AIBU "for traffic" as Chat is a busy section and gets lots.

muddyford · 21/02/2021 17:59

Medium coarse oatmeal (from healthfood shops). Soak in 50:50 milk:water overnight, cook slowly on the hob in the morning, adding half a teaspoon of salt until throats are soft and creamy. Eat with demerara sugar or golden syrup.

Coulddowithanap · 21/02/2021 18:01

Lidl cheap ones are really nice.

Felifox · 21/02/2021 20:36

I like Jordans organic jumbo rolled oats but have bought Duchy or Flahavans. I cook with water and low flat evap milk

AuntyMabelandPippin · 21/02/2021 20:49

Apparently Flanavan's Jumbo Oats are the best.

We can't get them locally, so DH is not a happy bunny.

OopNorfDahnSarf · 21/02/2021 20:55

Mornflakes

PinkArt · 21/02/2021 22:53

I second the cheapy Lidl ones - far better than any I've spent much more on

mushforbrain · 21/02/2021 22:57

I agree with @Lincslady53, the organic ones from Aldi are lovely

FangsForTheMemory · 21/02/2021 22:57

I buy Flavahans or Sainsbury’s. But I would really love oats that taste the way Readybrek does. When I was small, oats tasted like that. They don’t any more.

Northernexile · 21/02/2021 22:58

Flahavans all day long!

nanbread · 21/02/2021 23:01

We do a 50/50 mix of standard porridge oats and jumbo rolled oats, good texture but also
creaminesss. Flavahan's and Taste the Difference both good.

Dora26 · 21/02/2021 23:04

Flahavans organic jumbo oats - with local honey-sets me up for the day!

Nannyamc · 21/02/2021 23:17

Flahavans best buy. Steeped in half milk and water overnight. Pinch of salt. Cheap and cheerful.
