Tesco organic are good, and I agree - bigger the better

Patapouf · 21/02/2021 23:31

A 50:50 mix of porridge (rolled) and jumbo oats, always organic. Made with 50:50 mix of milk and water

Seasidemumma77 · 21/02/2021 23:49

Aldi's standard range

Flahavans organic regular oats, by the far the best. Great for overnight oats as well. Topped with loads of berries, a banana and a tablespoon of flaxseed. Add a tablespoon of almond butter too for protein if you are feeling adventurous.

Flahavans! Rolled ones in the tube not packet that take 2 mins in the microwave. Taste delicious with both normal cow milk or soya milk.

Quakers wholegrain rolled oats Smile

I second Kavanaghs Organic from Aldi. Nicer than Flahavans, in my opinion(and I grew up on Flahavans porridge for breakfast every single morning bar in the months of June, July and August).

Are the aldi version based on flahavans like it normally works in aldi?

For those who buy sachets for ease, you just need to find a small container that holds the right amount of oats for your portion size (we use an old little glass chocolate pudding pot) and do one of oats and two of milk and or water.

Saves the sachet waste, which are plastic coated so not recyclable and the oats are exactly the same as quick cook oats but much more expensive per portion.

Aldi essentials oats in the blue and white bag.

milktraysandroses · 22/02/2021 06:55

Aldi Kavanagh's organic or Flahavans. Both are good.

Truolbas · 22/02/2021 06:56

Quaker jumbo oats. I like making savory oats with them, bits of broccili, turmeric, bit of vegetable stock to cook it, is my staple breakfast.

Piglet89 · 22/02/2021 06:57

Tesco makes much creamier porridge than co op!

Piglet89 · 22/02/2021 06:59

@BarbaraofSeville agree on sachets! Just measure out a portion of Tesco oats now! My son has porridge with stewed apples and pears every morning; loves it!

I am sitting here eating just that, Yum.....

Whatever oats you buy, toasting them dry in the saucepan for 30 seconds or so (stir them constantly and don't let them burn!) will bring out a nice nutty flavour when they are cooked (with water and a tablespoon of peanut butter stirred in at the end).

Lidl sell lovely big oats
