DH and I have fallen on some bad Financial Times recently due to a very sick DS. We need home renovations to assist DS which we cannot afford. This week a charity contacted me and will help with the funding. Their offer is both unexpected and incredibly generous.
I know that most give to charities such as this and I wanted to share how life changing this is for us.
We cannot remortgage as DS needs 24 hour care and I had to leave my well paid job. DH lost his well paid job due to Covid and took a lesser paying one to keep us afloat. We cannot get a loan as we only have one real income - I get carers payment but we cannot afford loan repayments,

These renovations mean that DS can use his wheelchair at home. He will be independent as much as possible. I can get nursing and carers to help with his care when he has his own room & bathroom downstairs. We can get a hoist which will stop my constant back ache.

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted. Our home will no longer be like a prison for us.

Thank you. DS will never be cured or healthy enough for me to work in his lifetime but I promise when I can I will repay this donation in whatever way that I can.

Do you have good news to share?

dizzydizzydizzy · 20/02/2021 20:54

Absolutely brilliant!

I have had several years of ill health, with no diagnosis and little treatment. At last, i found a doctor who seemed to know what the problem was and at long last I am getting better. The icing on the cake is that I got a place in this year's London Marathon.

FFSAllTheGoodOnesArereadyTaken · 20/02/2021 20:57

Hi OP

That does make me happy on your behalf.

However it also makes me sad, that we live in a country where we have to rely on the kindness of strangers if we suffer hard times...especially where a child is involved. House modifications, hoists etc in my opinion is the minimum that the state should pay for and I'd be glad to pay more tax towards this

iamyourequal · 20/02/2021 20:58

Lougle · 20/02/2021 21:00

That is wonderful. I can still remember the feeling of relief and joy when we were offered our council house with a big back garden and its own driveway, which allowed us to keep DD1 (SN, now 15!!) safe.

teaandcake22 · 20/02/2021 21:04

MollysMummy2010 · 20/02/2021 21:17

Ah that is lovely news. You have no need to pay back - this is exactly what people want to happen when they donate. So glad money has done what it was intended to do.
