Just the title really. What total a-hole makes an aniseed gaviscon?!?! It’s like doing a shot of sambuca!

Currently 32+4 preggers and hubby picked up the wrong one 😭

No AIBU I guess, unless I’m unreasonable for hating aniseed 🤢🤢🤢

Completely agree - it might as well be chilli flavoured!

Am assuming you know the fridge trick....?
All gavicson is much MUCH improved when it's freezing!

flappityflippers1 · 17/02/2021 21:09

@KaMai

As pp have said there is also a mint flavor, also gaviscon do tablets like rennie too. I assume its that flavour as fennel is used to treat heartburn, as is peppermint but I think both are ghastly, at least the peppermint doesn't make me gag but like drinking thick toothpaste Yuk yuk yuk Deffinatly speak to your doctor, I was prescribed mint gaviscon and omeprazole tablets while pregnant very easily and safely (turns out my problem wasn't heartburn but thats a whole thread in itself!!) Hope you feel better Flowers
Fennel would make sense! (I also hate fennel!)

I shall see what the GP can do and will have a look for something a bit less offensive or toothpasty 🤢

Thank you - no matter what I eat or do in the day, I hit 7pm and BAM, heartburn!

I did not but I will be trying that for sure, anything to make it manageable!

Omfg youve just triggered me into a horrific flashback of doing exactly the same.

Bought it when heavily pregnant last time, did not read the label, downed a huge mouthful and instantly wished I was dead

It is by far the worst tasting abomination I have ever had the misfortune of coming into contact with.

It is foul.

It is worse than black Aftershock, which until that day was my worst vomit inducing memory.

I am off to have a bath now because the memory needs scrubbing away.

FYI - the only real thing which worked was Nexium - they last for 24 hours if I remember rightly, I’d take them a couple of times a week towards the end

WrongKindOfFace · 17/02/2021 21:14

You’re not wrong. I have to psych myself up to swallow the mint one, there is no way I could manage it with the aniseed one. Why can’t they make a nice flavour?

My apologies for the flashback 🙈 it really is rank!

I’ll check out the nexium for sure - currently just putting up with the heartburn as cannot face another mouthful of gaviscon 🤢🤢

I can swig any kind of gaviscon if I have indigestion but find the mint one a lot easier to stomach.
Would recommend Remegels, but they appear to not be on sale currently, not sure why and I have tried googling it.

RepulsedofRedbridge · 17/02/2021 21:26

You are all being unreasonable I love aniseed gaviscon and like another poster could drink a glass now just like pernod n black or ouzo or raki yum.. peppermint one is puke though and only for people with unsophisticated palates who like eating toothpaste.

Scarlettpixie · 17/02/2021 21:27

@TotheletterofthelawTHELETTER

I love the aniseed one and despise the mint one!
Me too!
Akire · 17/02/2021 21:27

The mint one is like having a whole pack polo mints in one go. I’m on team aniseed !

Rubyupbeat · 17/02/2021 21:28

I am sorry you're suffering, but I love the stuff, could easily down a large bottle, sorry!

Theunamedcat · 17/02/2021 21:28

I couldn't tolerate any when I was pregnant with my daughter i ended up drinking sterilised milk 😒

mogtheexcellent · 17/02/2021 21:28

It was the only type they had at the hospital when I gave birth. Alternating between swigging the disgusting stuff and heaving and trying not to vomit whilst in the delivery room was 'fun'.

x2boys · 17/02/2021 21:49

Gaviscon advance ? I had it on prescription when I was pregnant 🤮 I found the Asda,s own more palatable tbh .

MammaSchwifty · 17/02/2021 22:00

I liked the aniseed flavour... the texture on the other hand, disgusting. like a mouthful of extra thick cold cum

Oh gosh mentioning ouzo has flashbacks of me majorly embarrassing myself on a work night out! Now the aniseed gaviscon is even worse to face! 😭😭😭

I was given Gaviscon when I was ill and it is truly the product of the very last circle of hell. It went straight in the bin.

The only thing possibly worse than Gaviscon is aniseed Gaviscon, what with aniseed being the foulest substance known to human.

I think this is good grounds for divorce, OP.

RedcurrantPuff · 17/02/2021 22:18

I like it much better than the mint. The mint is awful!

This! But amazing how quickly I got over the texture and started swigging it out of the bottle
DorisDances · 18/02/2021 10:06

I only buy the aniseed one - cant stand the mint one!
