When people type words deliberately misspelled to take the piss out of an accent? And it becomes standard in that thread?

It isnt racism as such, but it does annoy me.
YABU- it's nothing
YANBU - it could be deemed offensive

Do you have an example?

Like Wot OP?

AViewFromTheWindows · 16/02/2021 16:04

Well the example i saw would be a taat.

But say if there was a thread about, dunno, New Zealand food and everyone just casually used Fush and Chups. Or Indian weddings and everyone typed a word in the Indian accent. It isnt mentioned as such, or laughingly said, it just becomes accepted practice in the thread to spell it that way, in the accent.
I dont know if I am making sense. It just annoyed me.
Dh said it was just because I am from that country but it wouldnt bother him cos he isnt?

AViewFromTheWindows · 16/02/2021 16:06

Taat meaning I didnt want it to become a thread about a certain thread. And I cant think of equivalent examples Blush

OP posts:
AViewFromTheWindows · 16/02/2021 16:07

Like people start thread saying its given not gifted, and that annoys them. But the deliberate "accent" misspelling is ok, cos it's an accent.

MissMarpleDarling · 16/02/2021 16:12

I love....forts and praires.... that's not a racist to anyone though.

MissMarpleDarling · 16/02/2021 16:15

Literally never in my life seen someone write your example.... fush and chups..... wtf 😂

Meowthress · 16/02/2021 16:17

I wot m8.

🤣🤣 I know! It was a crap example!

I dont know. Its not racist, just mildly offensive and annoying.

Can I say the thread? Without upsetting people?

OP posts:
chickenninja · 16/02/2021 16:25

Yes please say the thread.
I don't know what you mean either. Is it like 'naice' ham?

ParlezVousWronglais · 16/02/2021 16:29

Och aye.

1Morewineplease · 16/02/2021 16:32

Like saying 'ow bin yer?' Instead of "How are you?" I'm not too sure what you mean.

AViewFromTheWindows · 16/02/2021 16:35

Ok, and I understand the posters involved arent probably meaning to be annoying or whatever. It probably quite innocent on their part. But I dont like being reduced to an accent...iyswim?

Basically they say "ixpert" or "ixperiment" for expert and experiment as if it is an Australian accent.

OP posts:
CBAtoWalk · 16/02/2021 16:35

Just say the thread. The worst that will happen is MN HQ will delete it. But without saying what you mean no one can say if you are BR?

MorganKitten · 16/02/2021 16:36

Erm, what?

CBAtoWalk · 16/02/2021 16:37

Huh???

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 16/02/2021 16:38

What annoys me is words that are deliberately misspelt e.g. wot, cus etc.

but then I end texts with a fullstop (and just don't care!). 😛

AViewFromTheWindows · 16/02/2021 16:38

Imagine an accent in your head. Now type how it sounds rather than the actual spelling of the word. That is what I mean. But you are not from the country that accent is from. So like mocking a person's accent, but it is typed.

OP posts:
Somanysocks · 16/02/2021 16:41

Ixpert and ixperiment would be New Zealand, not Australian, actually.

OhCaptain · 16/02/2021 16:42

But is it mocking? Confused

I’ve read so many books where the dialogue is written in a brogue. I don’t like it, actually. But it’s not offensive!

AViewFromTheWindows · 16/02/2021 16:43

Well it is about Australia, so that's obviously how the posters hear it.

It's the Married At First Sight thread. To be fair, the 'experts' on the show don't really deserve the title as they've made such terrible matches, so that's probably part of it...

caligulascatharsis · 16/02/2021 16:46

I love reading stuff written in a Scottish accent.

Hmm. So it is mocking?

Oh MAFS, love that show, the women like a full lip which is very distracting.
