When people type words deliberately misspelled to take the piss out of an accent? And it becomes standard in that thread?

It isnt racism as such, but it does annoy me.
YABU- it's nothing
YANBU - it could be deemed offensive

Given so few can think of examples...
It never fails to amaze me the bizarre things that people worry about.

Bluntness100 · 16/02/2021 17:04

Well if you can’t think of any examples op it’s really hard to understand why you think this is prevalent.

Fush and chups. Seriously? 😂

AViewFromTheWindows · 16/02/2021 17:07

I didnt say it was prevalent. I didnt want to make it about the particular thread.

And ignore the fish and chips.. already said it was a crap example Grin

Lots of novels do this. It helps set the tone etc.

georgarina · 16/02/2021 17:16

Only time I've seen this is when people are writing in their own accent - usually Scottish or British. Haven't seen people write stuff in other people's accents

andshopsandtrees · 16/02/2021 17:20

The fush and chups thing has actually been said by a Kiwi in jest at himself. The ixpert etc is actually how the accent sounds so what's the problem?

My south eastern accent is always written as toof for tooth for example. Not a problem, it's pretty much true

BallsToYouSue · 16/02/2021 17:27

Hmmmmmmm I have an accent... but I don't think this would necessarily bother me. It would depend on how it is done. As a pp has already said, authors do it a lot in books to help set the tone.

andshopsandtrees · 16/02/2021 17:38

Everyone has an accent

BallsToYouSue · 16/02/2021 17:40

True! But I have an accent which is not local to where I live. To be more accurate!
