What the heck is wrong with these bananas?

I’ve had them for almost 3 weeks and they are just as green as the day I bought them.

This is why I never buy green bananas.

And yes I have put ripe bananas in the bowl with them. I’ve got through several bunches of ripe bananas waiting for these ones to do something!

YABU: be patient, green bananas take months to ripen doncha know.

YANBU: there is something wrong with your bananas.

Have you opened one to see if they're unripe inside. I know that could potentially mean wasting a banana.
I have similar pears, ripen at home. Had them nearly 2 weeks, still rock hard.

ConstanceMoss · 10/02/2021 14:56

We had similar delivered by Tesco. They never went yellow and I didn't think to open them anyway 🙈

Sheepies · 10/02/2021 14:58

Find a recipe that needs bananas like this, buy other ingredients, the bananas will be brown and mushy in no time! I have had this before, if you just open the skin very slightly it should start to ripen, but it wouldn't overly surprise me if there are anomalies and some just never do!

SummerHouse · 10/02/2021 14:59

I think they have the banana variant of covid. I am shocked at the number of other bananas you have socially mixed them with. Get them isolated and book them a test for the love of God OP!

BreakfastOfWaffles · 10/02/2021 15:03

Maybe they are the Benjamin Button of bananas? 😀

GooGoo52 · 10/02/2021 15:04

We had similar bananas recently. They were ripe inside, but never turned yellow.

Seeline · 10/02/2021 15:12

I always buy green bananas. They are still past that nice lemony yellow, perfect to eat stage within a couple of days and descend to the brown mushy inedible state rapidly.

I want some like yours

Phineyj · 10/02/2021 15:27

They're not plantains are they?

StoneofDestiny · 10/02/2021 15:28

Had the same thing recently - didn't open them up. Just thought there was something wrong.

4Mongrels · 10/02/2021 15:30

I had some like these, they were fine inside but never lost their green colour.

TakeTheCuntOutOfScunthorpe · 10/02/2021 15:32

Put them in a paper bag with an apple for a couple of days, that'll get them sorted.

cuckooflowers · 10/02/2021 15:34

They look like plantains?

Itwasgoodwhileitlasted · 10/02/2021 15:37

Bought some in Tesco a few weeks back. I took them back for a refund.

belinda789 · 10/02/2021 15:43

@Plump82

With regard to your pears that have been rock hard for nearly two weeks: Someone will ring your doorbell. You will go to see who it is and when you come back your pears will be mush......

Grin

Mine are the same! Delivered by online shopping 3 weeks ago... still green and hard, so I don’t think ripe inside...

TheOrigRights · 10/02/2021 15:55

Got these on Sunday. Sweepstake on when/if they might be edible?

Emmelina · 10/02/2021 15:58

Could you have picked up plantains by mistake?

BananaCustard85 · 10/02/2021 16:01

I had some like this too! Although slightly less green than yours. After about a week I caved and peeled one to put in my porridge - was surprised to discover a nice ripe banana inside the green skin.

EKGEMS · 10/02/2021 16:16

It's a different variety of bananas-I've bought several bunches like those-they're actually ripe and never change color on the peel like conventional bananas

bloodyhairy · 10/02/2021 17:23

I see Tesco has been mentioned a couple of times. Their fruit and veg is shit.

BeenHereForAges · 10/02/2021 17:35

We had same problem from asda. Kept them weeks and weeks and they never went yellow. Eventually I got fed up and opened one and it was all weird and dry inside.
Bin the bannanas.

skippy67 · 10/02/2021 17:41

They're definitely not plantains.

cazisalittlenuts · 10/02/2021 17:41

I had this with bananas from the coop. Intended to ripen over Christmas for banana bread. First week in Feb they were still green and rock hard, and impossible to peel.

Anniying · 10/02/2021 17:42

Yes I keep getting these bananas especially from Tesco and M&S. I thought I was going insane
