A gemstone ring that isn't my birthstone? I have fallen in love with an amethyst ring on ebay. I dont usually wear jewellery and haven't treat myself in absolutely ages so really want to get it. However I can hear my grandmother's voice in my head telling me I will get terrible bad luck if I wear a gemstone other than my birthstone!

YABU = don't wear anything other than your birthstone

YANBU = Don't be daft, wear any gemstone you like

I don't have anything in my own birthstone apart from a necklace. Some birthstones are far too soft to wear as rings.

My birthstone is diamond and they are the only stone I wear but I'd wear them if it wasn't my birthstone.

Mine's moonstone - booooring. Prefer coloured gemstones really although my engagement ring is a diamond.

I've been asking for a ring since I had DD2 with an amethyst (for DS) and 2 peridots (both DD are August).

So far as I know, opals are the only gemstone it's considered unlucky to wear if you weren't born in the right month.

It's all bollocks anyway. Wear what you choose!
