Handbags for brides

Hi all, I am posting here for traffic.

I have recently started my own handbag business, and I am wondering whether I should expand into wedding bags / purses / clutches - for brides themselves. I am not sure though if this is a thing - do brides need handbags for the wedding day? Or perhaps for the photoshoot?
I am attaching a couple of images of what I do - I could do these in more weddingy colours on white / ivory bases. These bags are also made from genuine leather, which makes them more expensive - not sure if it is something useful for a bag that would be essentially purchased for 1 day only?

I would appreciate some thoughts on this, thanks

I didn't have a bag. Didn't need my phone, couldn't care less about reapplying makeup, didn't need money.

Milkshake7489 · 09/02/2021 15:56

I didn't have a bag on my wedding day and probably wouldn't have wanted one- sorry OP.

Everyone I liked was at the wedding so no need for a phone and my mum was in charge of lipstick too ups Grin

They are lovely bags though, maybe you could market them towards bridesmaids?

Good luck!

RevolutionRadio · 09/02/2021 16:07

I just gave things I might have needed to my mum, she always has a massive bag😂

I'd be more likely to order a new bag as a guest to a wedding.

StoneofDestiny · 09/02/2021 16:12

Never ever heard of or seen a bride or bridesmaid with handbags. Can't imagine why you'd need them.

StoneofDestiny · 09/02/2021 16:12

Nice bags though.

katy1213 · 09/02/2021 16:17

That's a truly horrible, tacky logo - even more so if you're focusing on the bridal market.

SoCrimeaRiver · 09/02/2021 16:25

OP, maybe you could look more to mother of the bride for this? It would give you a broader colour palette which would off set the designs you have to greater effect than tones of ivory etc.

Acidburn · 09/02/2021 16:25

@katy1213 thank you for your very insightful opinion of the logo, I really appreciate it.

I think it’s quite unfair to call the logo ‘truly horrible, tacky’.

katy1213 · 09/02/2021 16:28

You're welcome! I can't imagine many brides want to walk down the aisle clutching 'Little Selfish' - but guess you know your own business!

Tomnooktoldmeto · 09/02/2021 16:35

I had an evening bag sized handbag made of cream silk to match my dress and shoes with beading on

I have to carry epipens with me and an inhaler so there will be some sort of market for people like me

However I wanted something discrete that blended in, my sister looked after it for me when I was busy during the day

wowier · 09/02/2021 16:35

I had a bag for essentials but it was heavily beaded & embellished, a minaudière bag.

SkepticalCat · 09/02/2021 16:40

I had a small bag at my wedding (15 years ago now), but then again I'm the type of person who carries a bag with me everywhere. It was ivory fabric in the same shade as my dress with a tiny bit of pale blue embroidery. I can't remember where I got it, but it might have been the wedding dress shop.

I didn't have it with me during the ceremony or photos; I can't remember, but I guess my mum or someone looked after it for me.

I then had it with me during the reception. I know my mum or one of my bridesmaids could have carried my lipstick/lipbalm/tissues etc, but I didn't want to have to track them down if I needed something. (As I said, I always carry a bag with me - I feel lost without one!!)

grey12 · 09/02/2021 16:44

I considered getting one but didn't really need it. Anyways it would have been tiny. Phone and not much else, lipstick, hair pins... definitely with a little strap so the bride has her hands free

PinotNoisette · 09/02/2021 16:47

I'm getting married at the end of this year (I hope!) and wouldn't be at all interested in a handbag. I would be more interested in a very small pouch for my lipstick, powder compact etc that would fit inside my mum's handbag or maid of honour's.

I agree!

It really is, isn’t it?! I can’t imagine walking around with that on my bag, after about age 19 it would be too cringe.

They also look a bit like Radley knock-offs, without the subtlety.

MaskingForIt · 09/02/2021 16:56

Since the surge in smart phones a lot of wedding dresses now have pockets in them so that brides can insta every part of their day. I think pockets are going to be a bigger thing than bags for brides.

CarlottaValdez · 09/02/2021 17:02

I had an amazing bag for my wedding and then used it afterwards as well. I didn’t wear a wedding dress though, just a gorgeous party dress. In fact I didn’t have “wedding” anything so I suppose I wouldn’t be the market. Logo is fine by the way!

Acidburn · 09/02/2021 17:03

@CarlottaValdez thank you :)

Honestly they look like some cheap tat that my mil would find at a bootsale. Not my taste at all.

They would look much nicer without the flowers and leaves on. And without the logo too, the name little selfish doesn't scream bridal or luxury.

Fressia123 · 09/02/2021 17:21

I'm a bride to be and I have one! I paid around £25 for it it's genuine leather from Rachel Simpson

SpicyTinkle · 09/02/2021 17:25

I like the bags, but don't think they are suited to brides. I also would be put off buying one because of the logo. Needs to be more subtle and discreet.

SausageRoll2020 · 09/02/2021 17:30

This was the bag I bought for my wedding day.
Obviously didn't carry it during the ceremony etc.
The venue team held on to it for me and made sure I had it to touch up lipstick before the reception, it then made its way to my reception seat as it had my speech inside.
Also had some plasters and stain wipes in just in case but didn't need them.
