To consider a heated throw instead of the heating on…

Hi everyone,

Full-time home worker here, and I'm looking at heated throws.

I feel like I have the heating on so much at the moment, and I wondered if this is a viable solution for my office, so that I don't need to run the heating as much.

Does anybody have any experience of them?

Do they make a difference?

Also are there any recommended brands

This thread is slightly old now so some of the suggestions may be out of stock, but if you’ve landed here looking for cosy heated blankets, we’ve recently updated our best heated throw page with loads of great options that have been tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Smile

We have the Dreamland one and DP uses it a lot for home working. It’s great.

rattytattynightmare · 04/02/2021 12:59

I bought an electric (over-) blanket for exactly this reason. It's great, IMHO even better than having the heating on, far more cosy.

No idea about recommended brands, I bought this one in a sale, although I see it's no longer available from Lakeland.

yomellamoHelly · 04/02/2021 13:00

Did search on here and bought a dreamland one. Has made a huge difference

ChippyDucks150 · 04/02/2021 13:04

I was gifted one Christmas before last and I bought my eldest ds one this Christmas. His is by far the superior, and it's so warm. I would buy one if I were you.

bravotango · 04/02/2021 13:06

I recently got one and can't believe I didn't do it sooner! Get one. But make sure it's a heated throw (fleecy) rather than a heated blanket for a bed - the bed ones sometimes have elastic and aren't 'cosy' as they going underneath your bedding

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 04/02/2021 13:09

I got one recently for this exact reason. The only thing is, the blanket is that snuggly in itself that I've not had to plug it in!!

Graffitiqueen · 04/02/2021 13:10

Currently sitting with mine over me at the moment. best thing i have bought for home working!

lemmein · 04/02/2021 13:15

They are worth every penny but damn they're dangerous! Within 10 minutes of putting mine on I'm asleep 🤦🏻‍♀️ so I can only use it on an evening watching the tele - they're just TOO comfy, I wouldn't get anything done if I used it through the day.

You can get heated body warmers too which might be better for home working.

GreenEyedDevil · 04/02/2021 13:23

I have a Dreamland Relaxwell and it’s great. It gets lovely and warm. I’m using mine right now. Well worth getting one.

M0rT · 04/02/2021 13:27

I use one for home working and think it's great. The only suggestion I'd make is to get a small one. Mine was a gift and is large, it's great for on the sofa but slides off my lap when sitting at the desk.

Gilead · 04/02/2021 13:51

I love mine, wouldn’t be without it!

Lovethewater · 04/02/2021 13:53

Love mine - comfortable and economical. Originally bought about one 3 years ago for chillier evenings at our caravan. Liked it so much I bought one for home and it has been in regular use during lockdown. Mine were from Aldi - has a timer and 7 heat settings but I have only ever used the lowest two. Measures 120 x 160cm which I have found a useful size - I put it over my work chair and then fold it over my legs so it stays put, but it's also big enough to snuggle under on the sofa.

eclipsechips · 04/02/2021 13:54

I absolutely love mine so 100% recommend them!

WisestIsShe · 04/02/2021 13:55

I have the aldi one and I couldn't recommend it highly enough. So warm and snuggly and economical to run.

Starisnotanumber · 04/02/2021 14:03

OrigamiOwl · 04/02/2021 14:05

I've got one from Lakeland and it's great!

Davros · 04/02/2021 14:08

I got this one recently

rtshop.radiotimes.com/collections/health/products/lifemax-far-infrared-heated-lap-blanket

Because it is small, can go round your shoulders as well as on your lap, and only has TWO settings. Hi and Lo is more than enough

doublenotdobble · 04/02/2021 17:52

I got one for my birthday about five years ago and it's my most favourite thing. Cosy and warm. I especially like it when the room is cold and I can snuggle into the blanket. Get one you won't regret it!!

CounsellorTroi · 04/02/2021 18:03

Was given one for Christmas a couple of years ago and love it.

Peacocking · 04/02/2021 18:09

They're fabulous. Cosy and snuggly and toasty warm. Also magnetic to most pets who will sit on you in order to be close to the blanket.

birdseeder · 04/02/2021 18:18

Mine can be disconnected from its cord and washed in the machine.
