Please??
I promise not to call you a cunt for saying that I am in fact being unreasonable.

Stop them!

BANG!

Sorry couldn't resist

AmIReallyThough · 01/02/2021 01:05

No problem. Here goes.

Repeat after me, quickly and no pausing or breathing in between:

YabadabadooYabadabadooYabadabadoo

You’re welcome!

Reinventinganna · 01/02/2021 01:06

@Endoftether20 I so wanted it to work but no.

Oh maybe a mixture of replying to @Endoftether20 and saying that helped @AmIReallyThough!
Gone! Fixed, sorted! Grin thank you!

Drink lots of water very quickly till you burp a deep satisfying belch. Hiccups are a sign that your brain is tired.

Scarby9 · 01/02/2021 01:08

A work colleague used to whip out a £10 note and say 'I'll give you this if you can hiccup again'.

On the one occasion the person continued to hiccup (the surprise and laughter tended to stop the hiccupping), he gave them the £10. They were so surprised that they stopped then.

Not sure that works over mumsnet, however.

Stand on your head?

Drink a glass of water from the wrong side of the glass?

AmIReallyThough · 01/02/2021 01:08

Told you! Grin

You’re welcome!

Lovely1a2b3c · 01/02/2021 01:09

Drink from the far-side of a cup.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 01/02/2021 01:10

Ok. Try this breathe in slowly and when you feel you should be breathing out carry on breathing in for a few seconds more. Gently breathe out, again for a few seconds longer than you need to.
Repeat a few times until you have reset your diaphragm.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 01/02/2021 01:14

Ha! I thought I'd read the thread but I missed that you were over them.
Oh well

DimplesToadfoot · 01/02/2021 02:01

I agree with the comment above ^^ drink out of the wrong side of a cup, works every time

RhubarbAndMustard · 01/02/2021 02:12

My kids swear by eating some cheese. No idea where they've got that from.

DuaneAgain · 01/02/2021 03:25

Drinking a pint of water without stopping almost always clears mine, but I'd caveat that by saying that 99% of the time I get them while vaping so they may not be standard hiccups.

Longdistance · 01/02/2021 06:18

I hold my breath for long periods. It seems to work, it’s not something that works straight away, I have to hold my breath several times for it to work.

Peanutbutterblood · 01/02/2021 06:47

I put a drop of vinegar on my tongue. Dont know where I heard it but works for me

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/02/2021 06:55

Antacid tablets make you burp. This stops it every time.

ChristmasFluff · 01/02/2021 14:43

Hopefully they've stopped now, but putting your fingers in your ears and pressing really hard for about a minute usually works

SoDiorDarling · 01/02/2021 14:46

Shot of vinegar - it's fool proof!

strawbmilk · 01/02/2021 14:46

A shot of cordial. Our local pub told me this when I had them badly a few years ago. Works every time!

ASnowman · 01/02/2021 15:00

Blocking your ears and drinking through a straw always works in our house. Just if it happens again.

I hold my breath for as long as I can, and then also hold the next breath for as long as possible (not usually long the 2nd time!) always works - have to really hold it though!

Royalbloo · 01/02/2021 16:45

Get a massive glass of water or two or three.

Hold your nose.

Gulp down as much liquid as you can without waking a breath/stopping.

Works every time for me.

Royalbloo · 01/02/2021 16:46

Waking?! *taking

Barracker · 01/02/2021 16:47

Drink water from the wrong side of the glass like this.

Go slow, sip and swallow for as long as you can . You can still breathe, don't hold your breath.

Please stop my hiccups
