Totp 2 makes me emotional-weird right?

Watching Totp from 1990 and it’s making me emotional 🤷🏻‍♀️I was 13 years old and vividly remember so many amazing times, I couldn’t wait to grow up and saw the world as this big, exciting place.
I miss the 90’s

*12, not 13

I feel like that too! A kind of homesickness for a time rather than a place.

Hotzenplotz · 29/01/2021 22:00

I don't think you're weird at all!

Avaganda · 29/01/2021 22:05

I don't think it's weird. It's nice to think back to happier and simpler times.

90sfeelslikeyesterday · 29/01/2021 22:11

It really was a simpler time!

I feel the same towards the 90's. It was the only time I've ever been really happy

stonebrambleboy · 29/01/2021 22:15

I feel the same about the '70's!

90sfeelslikeyesterday · 29/01/2021 22:15

@Bettina500 It really was a golden time

That’s so funny I was just watching that..I was 12 in 1990 and was really living life to the full..it made me feel truly fed up and long for the innocence of those Covid free times!

gingganggooleywotsit · 29/01/2021 22:23

Also felt for my teenage daughter who is upstairs in her room living a very boring life as we all are, don’t know why but the music really got me emotional too op!

FrankiesKnuckle · 29/01/2021 22:24

15 going on 16 for me. The musical variety blows my mind now.
TMNT then finished with LFO. The juxtaposition of those two!

As a young teen, I loved a-ha, Terence Trent derby and bros 😍
But as I was getting older and exposed to the acid house sound I fell into that and never left.

I mourn the fact that music is so compartmentalised now. No such music shows for my pre teen.

I love watching TOTP now, few friends in the audience too - quite funny to watch!

90sfeelslikeyesterday · 29/01/2021 22:24

@gingganggooleywotsit Same, 12 about to turn 13 and all manner of craziness was about to start 😂

@FrankiesKnuckle See you are/were the ideal age, I just made it into the house scene etc and remember acid house and the illegal raves being on tv. A couple of years later we were out in the clubs, you must’ve really experienced it all, I was just a touch too young.
Loved A-ha and Bros too when younger 😅Morten was my first crush around 8

@gingganggooleywotsit I so hope things change soon for the teens 🙏 such vital years

Clickncollect · 29/01/2021 22:49

@90sfeelslikeyesterday are you me?! Same age, same Morten crush, same touch too young for acid house!

FrankiesKnuckle · 29/01/2021 23:02

@90sfeelslikeyesterday the transition from bros to raves was almost seamless! My mum despaired of my bros posters but then mourned them when replaced by rave flyers! And I've still got them all (the rave flyers)
I'm still very much a dance/electronica kind of gal. With quite a lot of indie thrown in.
We grew up in an explosion of musical genres of which I'm thankful for. I love the 90s and I'm musically still very much stuck in it which is not a bad place to be 😎

90sfeelslikeyesterday · 30/01/2021 00:05

@Clickncollect Ha ha, amazing times!

@FrankiesKnuckle Around 13, I became interested/aware of the rave/club scene and Stone roses, then it was pretty full on for years 😂 I love indie too and the whole music scene

I hear you OP. I get like that listening to music from about 86 to 88. I was 14/15 in 1990 I had transitioned from brosette to metal head. I loved the grunge years but I don’t get sad or emotional
About them just have warm fuzzy happy feelings of good times.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 30/01/2021 00:29

I miss the music like I miss the body shop perfume bar and busy department stores. I was 14/15 in 1990 I was more of a goth back then and if The Mission was on I would tape it an rewatch over and over.

Stinkywizzleteets · 30/01/2021 00:55

@SinisterBumFacedCat it was sisters of mercy for me. I loved them but didn’t get to see them until I was in my 30s and they were awful!

Teddy1970 · 30/01/2021 00:59

Not weird at all OP, I feel the same when I watch TOTP from the 1988, I was watching 'Minder' earlier and sometimes I wish we could go back, I know I'm probably seeing it through rose tinted glasses but things seemed so much simpler back then.

OwlBeThere · 30/01/2021 01:01

I totally get it!

Jente · 30/01/2021 01:16

I understand OP. I can't watch as I get maudlin about how quickly the time went and how old and boring I am now.

Love the username Frankie's Knuckle! He was a genius

KathleenTurnerOverdrive · 30/01/2021 02:26

It really was a simpler time!

In 1990 the Thatcher government was in its death throes, the poll tax was causing unrest and leading to mass demonstrations, interest rates were high, unemployment was high in areas outside the south east of England, a recession was just on the horizon. Iraq would invade Kuwait in August of 1990.

The difference is that as children and young teens we didn't understand the full impact unless it impinged directly on us.

gingganggooleywotsit · 30/01/2021 07:30

@KathleenTurnerOverdrive yes there were problems but there wasn’t the internet and rolling 24hr news..so we didn’t really know about a lot of the problems. Ignorance was bliss. Sounds bad to say but it’s true
