Let's face it the last 10 months especially have been pretty shit for most people, but what have been the good points for you? I'll start by saying that I became a grandma in June which has more than made up for all the shit times. Also I've found myself appreciating little things like watching the birds pecking away at the fat balls in their bird feeder and shit. So come on, give me the things that you have appreciated over the past year, no matter how small.

Excited about my garden seeds that I will start next week in my front window

It's not my good news but my Spanish teacher in latin America adopted a street cat and I now get to watch the process of him gradually introducing her to his dog. She is already in charge and lies across the desk in front of the screen while we have our lessons with her tail hanging down with the dog staring at her tail She is beautiful, as is the dog.

I met my Spanish teacher on Tinder. One day I was bored and expanded the settings to global and met him immediately. We have been having lessons once a week since August. It is great chatting to someone at the other side of the world. My Spanish is rubbish but I am getting good at cat-related conversation.

prawncocktailpringles · 29/01/2021 12:14

Only good thing to ever come out of Tinder

Tickly · 29/01/2021 13:00

Birthday weekend at my house. Everyone is well. We have cake and wine.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 29/01/2021 13:12

I have a job and business is going well which I'm incredibly grateful for.

I bought my first house last year and I'm finally getting DS's bedroom all decorated next week with lovely new carpets.

RoseMartha · 29/01/2021 13:22

I was told yesterday I was getting a pay rise. First one in almost three years. So that was good. Been at company six years. I only went there initially as a stop gap until I found something better, and something better never came along, hardly likely to now for the next couple of years either.

Dorisdaydream2 · 29/01/2021 13:42

Congratulations op!

My Dad sent me flowers today! He’s never done anything like that before. He doesn’t go online at all so must have rung the florist. They are absolutely beautiful. No reason for sending them, not my birthday. They have really cheered me up.

Nomnomarrgh · 29/01/2021 13:53

Town next to me has become a toilet twinning town, so lots of people across the world have gained access to toilets and taps.

nonetcurtains · 29/01/2021 13:55

I got a new grandson in December, so beautiful. AND I had my first Covid-19 vaccine yesterday.

EssentialHummus · 29/01/2021 14:09

The pandemic led to my starting a new job which I'm enjoying and which gives me a lot of purpose.

I feel much more aware of my good fortune. It feels crude to list things here but I'm very lucky really, despite some tough times over the year.

ValidUser · 29/01/2021 14:52

The IVF worked and I get to meet my DS in March. Honestly makes it the best year ever in many ways.

Notjustanymum · 29/01/2021 15:37

WFH - no commuting
Spending time with family
Got some good work done on the house
Enjoyed the good weather last summer outside
Finally cleared out some cupboards/rooms
Time for Baking
Explored the local area when exercising
No Covid ( luckily) in family/extended family/friends
Vaccine booked for tomorrow
Lost weight
Seen sunshine today (and every other day there has been some)

bwfcchick88 · 29/01/2021 16:05

I passed my Interim Assessment last week for my PhD.

Dobbyismyfavourite · 29/01/2021 16:06

@ValidUser lovely news. Enjoy your IVF baby when they arrive. Makes the wait even more special, mine is soon to be 18!

I was made redundant in the summer but found a new job quickly and I'm really enjoying the challenge.

Year 13 DD has had four uni offers which really makes me very happy, and her!

I survived my first year as a widow and solo parent of teenagers fairly successfully. It was not the year I expected to have, but in a way it made it easier to cope with the huge change in my life knowing that life was not carrying on as normal for anyone else either.

I've become very good at DIY, even the power tools no longer scare me 😁

I started a 'house' Instagram page as a lockdown hobby during the second lockdown. One of my followers, who loved all my crazy colours, commissioned me to design a room for her (which I did entirely remotely) and she loves it, so I am now hoping to do a few more interior design projects for other people. None of this would have happened without Covid. I didn't even know house Instagrams were a thing before November.

I have been lucky to have a secure job that I enjoy and that allows me to work from home and keep my children company while they do their online lessons.

Mostly, I feel very grateful that despite the sadness of losing my much-loved DH, I have a lovely home, financial security, kind and fun children who are great company, and amazing friends. And we haven't had Covid :)

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 29/01/2021 16:19

@EssentialHummus. - it's not crude, I live hearing other peoples good news.

@ValidUser I'm completely made up for you!! SO exciting!!

Lots of lovely news everyone!!

I'm just grateful not to have had Covid so far (I have underlyings so pretty scared of getting it. Hoping to have had 1st vax before mid March

Very thankful friends & family with Covid have recovered.

...so far, touch wood!

Big Things:

  • All still healthy
  • All still gainfully employed
  • All getting along just great

Littler things:

  • Last spring I tried to make garden hedgehog friendly with a tunnel and a hedgehog house. Put up a wildlife camera to observe and been delighted to see the hedgehog visitors we had.
  • Discovering some cracking walks that we can do from our own front door
samandpoppysmummy · 29/01/2021 16:29

@ValidUser so happy for you ❤️

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 29/01/2021 16:37

Congrats op and everyone else.
I’m getting a new Granddaughter in June.
I can’t wait. DD doesn’t live with me though so it’s very hard at the moment to seeing her in the flesh. We’ve got face time which is a Godsend but it’s not the same.

3rdNamechange · 29/01/2021 16:40

@samandpoppysmummy can you say what your IG page is called ?

samandpoppysmummy · 29/01/2021 17:04

@3rdNamechange it won't let me put the name in for some reason - something to do with the underscores. It's the house called the tower with underscores between each word.

longtimemarried · 29/01/2021 17:07

My son at last recovering from Covid after many long weeks, am crying with relief.

caringcarer · 29/01/2021 17:10

Son's colleague marriage sadly broke down. Good news we were offered his cat as he is going to move back in with his Mum and she is allergic. Cat is pure blood 3 year old Bengal male that has been neutered. He is lovely, so many rosettes on him. I just hope he is going to fit in with my 4 darling cats we have had since kittens.
