Fake books?? Wtf

LawnFever · 24/01/2021 23:24

I keep seeing these fake books posted online, which I’ve always thought were pretty odd but I’ve only just found out they’re sometimes more expensive than real books - like they’re £25 for a blank book with a fake cover, what’s the bloody point?

I was on a FB page, a few people posted a link to where to buy them and some sets of three were £100 + Confused

Why on earth are people paying more money for fake books than they could just buy a real book for? Even if you’re not planning on reading them and it’s for ‘decor’

Aibu to think people could just buy real books? Hmm

Fake books?? Wtf

I saw someone ask the same question on a DIY Facebook group.
The question was met with outrage and confusion! 😂😂

RightOnTheEdge · 24/01/2021 23:33

Forgot to say YANBU!

MoreRainbowsPlease · 24/01/2021 23:34

I had not heard of this, but I am gobsmacked! It is definately very odd.

MedusasBadHairDay · 24/01/2021 23:34

That is really weird, I don't understand it at all

PegasusReturns · 24/01/2021 23:34

That’s really weird - as you say actual coffee table books of those brands can be bought for a similar price.

Ihatefish · 24/01/2021 23:35

Presumably the people who do this have some sort of fear of books and the thought of actually reading one and interrupting their viewing of Love Island.

It’s the ultimate in the Instagram life, all cringeworthy show with absolutely no substance or sense of reality behind it.

SemperIdem · 24/01/2021 23:36

Yanbu

There are so many “stylish” books that also have interesting content.

The lengths people will go to, to appear cultured whilst having no interest in being so, is astonishing.

nocoolnamesleft · 24/01/2021 23:37

Perhaps their heads are as empty as their books?

wellardwoof · 24/01/2021 23:38

god some people are dumb

M0rT · 24/01/2021 23:39

That is weird!
I've heard of people selling curated libraries but that is usually real books, just with covers to match an asthetic and more often used by film/tv companies or for high end show homes.
Ordinary people could just buy real books, even if you didn't want to read them surely it would be cheaper to go to a book discounter and get ones with covers that match your cushions or whatever?

MoreRainbowsPlease · 24/01/2021 23:39

The books in the picture look like you could just print the name off on a normal printer and then wrap any book with the paper to get the same effect for free.

rooarsome · 24/01/2021 23:40

I also don't understand wallpaper that looks like shelves full of books.

Girlyracer · 24/01/2021 23:42

Urgh chav central.

LawnFever · 24/01/2021 23:44

I should’ve checked this before, but you can buy a real Chanel archive book from Waterstones for £30, or spend £25 on a blank/fake one... Hmm

MNerGoneRogue · 24/01/2021 23:48

There's always been people with more money than taste. 🤷‍♀️

Some people are scared of books or have no interest in them.
Meh. I won't judge. But, equally, I won't have them in my life

PerfidiousAlbion · 24/01/2021 23:52

Awful.

I've seen people on Instagram paint their book covers so that they match their decor too. Bizarre.

wellardwoof · 24/01/2021 23:52

I just don't understand. If you don't like reading or books, fine no shame in that. But why pretend to have fashion books? If you are going to pretend why spend so much, just do it yourself.

Shaniac · 24/01/2021 23:52

Wtf... Theres really no words geddit?

NotCornflakes · 24/01/2021 23:58

Truly bizzare! But at least no actual books were harmed - I hope! Or are those real books painted over?
I find books where the pages have been cut into a shape more upsetting.

Fake books?? Wtf
HeronLanyon · 24/01/2021 23:59

rainbow totally agree !
shaniac we shouldn’t be so quick to judge a book by its cover surely ?

NotCornflakes · 24/01/2021 23:59

Oops, folded not cut! It still upsets me though!

Shaniac · 25/01/2021 00:04

Grin i will take a leaf out of these books and stay silent.

JaneJeffer · 25/01/2021 00:06

I don't get it either but to each his own. Some people on this thread think they are so superior.

Thewiseoneincognito · 25/01/2021 00:09

It just looks rough to have that kind of junk on display. Something an MLM would have trying to show off living their best life 🤭

Thewiseoneincognito · 25/01/2021 00:10

@Shaniac

Grin i will take a leaf out of these books and stay silent.
