Fake books?? Wtf

I keep seeing these fake books posted online, which I’ve always thought were pretty odd but I’ve only just found out they’re sometimes more expensive than real books - like they’re £25 for a blank book with a fake cover, what’s the bloody point?

I was on a FB page, a few people posted a link to where to buy them and some sets of three were £100 + Confused

Why on earth are people paying more money for fake books than they could just buy a real book for? Even if you’re not planning on reading them and it’s for ‘decor’

Aibu to think people could just buy real books? Hmm

Fake books?? Wtf

Oh yes, so did my mum! I used to pinch the little number stickers and stick them all over the house!

@Greenknees I had piano lessons for about 3 years, and our piano at home was badly out of tune, with a couple of keys that were really muffled. The adults refused to have it tuned on the basis I didn't play it enough (I lived in a commune so decisions like that were made by majority vote!) So I played a lot less than I might have liked, but I still played almost daily for years - perhaps they couldn't afford to get it tuned?
As a side note, that, and the constant moaning and interruptions from a couple of the other kids who wanted to play football in the room where the piano was is probably why I gave up playing...

🤣 a fool and their money are easily parted....

I’ve seen a lot of these on fb marketplace (sold as ‘handmade’) but don’t actually know anyone who has bought them - so I’m not sure if the fb crafters make them look like they’re more popular than they are!

@LawnFever

I should’ve checked this before, but you can buy a real Chanel archive book from Waterstones for £30, or spend £25 on a blank/fake one... Hmm
On Amazon a real Tom Ford book will set you back £80 odd quid (wtf?) but yes the others are about £30.

You can get them for £7 in TK Maxx (when it's open). They also had the Vogue series.

They are rather 'hun' right now. Have a look at a Facebook group called 'hunbelieveable' where these feature regularly. The homemade ones are often stuff of wonderment. Poorly aligned typography stuck to an old copy of 50 Shades wrapped in fablon. You have to laugh.

@waterlego

When you think about it, these fake books are art for the insta generation. An outside cover to impress and delight others, mostly people who you don't know, and nothing between those covers.

You’ve summed it up perfectly! These books are a metaphor for their owners.

Yup.

Like most of the insta generation really, all style no substance Wink

Veritably the new red hat, no knickers!

Cuntitinthebin · 25/01/2021 16:14

I didn't know people did this.

Interesting.
