Did anyone do dry January?

I always said jan was the worst month to ditch the booze.A latecomer to alcohol I didn't drink at all until I was 37.
Then I watched my units as I have an addictive personality.I would have 6 or 7 a week.
Now on furlough and much less stressed I've dropped to 2 units. I'm quite pleased tbh.
Did anyone bother to participate this yr or is that glass of wine the only joy this month.

I did. I do every year. Plus normally Sober 'tober as well.

Tanaria · 23/01/2021 15:38

I gave up a few days ago after afew miserable incidents at work. I have no other vices, so am not too bothered.

meow1989 · 23/01/2021 15:40

Dh and I have done dry and vegetarian January. We do sober September too each year.

Have to say I'm quite looking forward to a little baileys in Feb though!

whatisforteamum · 23/01/2021 15:41

Same Tanaria. I just don't know anyone trying this year.

I'm doing and loving it. I drank a lot over Xmas so I needed to stop and reset

LApprentiSorcier · 23/01/2021 15:46

I'm still doing it, but not seeing the amazing health benefits I'd hoped for. Haven't missed alcohol that much.

PurpleDaisies · 23/01/2021 15:47

I didn’t bother as I don’t drink much anyway.

I normally notice friends talking about it on social media and I haven’t seen that at all this time.

ImperfectTents · 23/01/2021 15:47

I lost any weight I put on over Xmas super fast so I a, quite motivated by that

OddshoesOddsocks · 23/01/2021 15:48

We’ve done dry and vegetarian January this year too.

Still veggie so far although the dds have given up as of tea time tonight as they’ve asked for a chicken burger.

Dry January was paused last night after a particularly shitty week and dp has just announced that he will be continuing dry January ‘through the week but not weekends’ Hmm

Tempted to just Jack both of them in, it was for his benefit anyway!

binkyblinky · 23/01/2021 15:49

Yep still doing it, with my husband who is a very heavy drinker. So proud of him

Blubellsarebells · 23/01/2021 15:49

I am. Not planning to drink in february either.
It was becoming a problem so I've just stopped.
I need to lose weight also so hopefully stopping the drink will help.
I was drinking 30-50 units a week.
If I was capable of sticking to 2units in one sitting never mind a whole week I wouldnt have felt the need to stop.

dementedma · 23/01/2021 15:49

I got to day 15

supercatlady · 23/01/2021 15:49

We are.

pourmethevino · 23/01/2021 15:50

Thanks to peri menopause every month is a dry month for me. Not had a drink since last July 😔 I really miss relaxing with a gin and the giggles I use to get but the hangover just isn't worth it anymore. Getting old is shit 😭

FourTurnings · 23/01/2021 15:50

Am still doing it. Feel much better for not drinking.

Tellmetruth4 · 23/01/2021 15:50

I’m doing it and now going in to week four my skin is starting to look amazing. I was drinking well over the recommended units in December though so was ready to give it a rest. Bank balance looking better too.

Itscoldouthere · 23/01/2021 15:50

We are doing it and have reduced our meat intake, I’ve been tempted to have a glass of wine but resisted.
It’s breaking the end of the day drink habit for us, I’m hoping when we go back to it we will only drink 2/3 days a week.

I plan to do this after January. Not before Grin

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 23/01/2021 15:52

Kinda doing it,

Joined dh for a few drinks on his birthday, but thats it so im pleased

Ds1 birthday is in January as well so would usually have a drink or two then as well...bloody covid obviously put paid to seeing him!

pointythings · 23/01/2021 15:53

There's a fair number of us over on the Dry thread and I'm one of them, but I know a lot of people IRL who aren't doing it this year. I don't blame them, but I'm sticking with it because my usual motivations (nothing to do with my alcohol consumption) are still there.

CoronaIsWatching · 23/01/2021 15:53

I'm doing Dry January as there's still over a week left of it. I do it every year and always see it through. I'm certainly not a giver upper though. The Dry January threads on here are very busy in early January though posts slow down to a crawl at this later stage of the month

georgarina · 23/01/2021 15:53

Yes because I'm pregnant lol

And I don't drink at home anyway, only when I'm out, so there's that

132orbust · 23/01/2021 15:54

I did along with the cast on here:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/alcohol_support/4131936-hop-on-up-it-s-dry-january-thread-2
I do feel the benefit of it especially in the weight I have lost and how much I have achieved keeping busy in the evenings.
