How often do they come and what do they do in your home?

We have a cleaner who comes once a fortnight, well actually there's two of them for 1.5 hours. They hoover and dust, clean the kitchen surfaces, mop the hard floors and clean the bathrooms. The house looks and smells lovely when they've been with the towels all folded beautifully, the bathrooms shiny and everything is clean. I clear all the clutter away before they arrive. Sometimes I'll ask for the windows to be cleaned or go through the spare room ( they don't clean the unused rooms regularly). Its only DH and I plus the dog, 4 bedroom house.

PissedOffProf · 23/01/2021 15:51

My cleaner comes for two hours a week. She vacuums, mops floors, dusts and cleans the bathroom. She does not tidy. We run around like headless chickens before she comess (or sometimes even after) tidying so she can clean.

Once a week, 4 hours. All of the above plus hiding a few of my belongings each week 🤣. Seriously, I thought I was tidy until I met her.

rbmilliner · 23/01/2021 16:16

Haven't got one but God I wish I did.
4 bed, 2 adults one preschooler and cat.
House always untidy and never clean😬

user1493413286 · 23/01/2021 16:26

Once a fortnight for 2 hours and she cleans the kitchen sides, sink and hob and washes the floor. Cleans both bathrooms and floors. Hoovers through and dusts.

Moo678 · 23/01/2021 16:55

Once a week for 3 hrs. She cleans bathrooms, hoovers, mops, dusts, tidies my middle daughters bedroom. Sometimes hangs and folds washing. Other bits as I ask - sometimes I pay for extra hours. 5 bed house, 2 adults + 3 kids. She hasn’t been since before Xmas and currently has covid - I miss her so much.

MinesAPintOfTea · 23/01/2021 17:00

Three hours once a week. She cleans all the rooms (woodwork, surfaces, polishes, hoovers), emptied the dishwasher, and best of all, changes any beds that have clean bedding on top of them.

Clutter in each room is put into a pile for us to sort out, so she can cope when we have failed to tidy up

JamesBeBlunt · 24/01/2021 16:13

Great. I’m definitely considering it. On my own with untidy kids is proving to be a bit of a pain in the arse!
Does your cleaner have a key? Do you go out when she comes round?

Every fortnight, usually for 3 hrs (2 bed flat). She;
-cleans the kitchen, fridge, oven, floors
-cleans 2x bathrooms
-dusts
-vacuums

Barkleyspaubles · 24/01/2021 17:01

Once a week 4 hours. Top to bottom, 5 beds. Bathrooms, hard floors which is all downstairs. Cleans out oven, fridge, inside windows etc on rotation. Worth her weight in gold, lives the dogs and is good to the children!

theotherfossilsister · 24/01/2021 17:04

When we're not in lockdown sh comes once a week for two hours. Best £28 we spend. I really miss her, there's no way we can do a job as good as she does. She also sometimes goes over the two hours, I sort of think we should pay her more for this but she hasn't raised it, and we are paying her in lockdown but that's because I get full pay working from home so it would be bit double standards if we didn't.

She's Polish. She loves our cat. She text me that she missed him.

moomoogalicious · 24/01/2021 17:04

2 hours once a week. She dusts our bedroom and the kids' if they've bothered to tidy, dusts the office, hallway, cleans 2 bathrooms, kitchen and conservatory and mops the floors, cleans the insides of the windows. No vacuuming as i do that daily due to the dog

Triffid1 · 24/01/2021 17:10

Once a week, about four hours - but she left shortly before lockdown. Did a lot. Vacuums, cleans bathrooms and kitchen, mops floors, dusts, changes bedding and towels and starts the process of washing/drying them (she can usually do one load and put in tumble drier and then put a second load in for me to take out after she's left). She then does one extra thing each week eg cleans fridge, cleans windows (she usually does the windows over 2-3 weeks), inside of kitchen cupboards (again, often over two weeks), dust down the radiators etc). She was great and I miss her a lot - with lockdown we haven't replaced her.

I'm kind of used to doing it ourselves now, and it had helped financially, but after lockdown I want to get a cleaner to come in every 2 weeks or so to do the kitchen, mopping, dusting (that's the one thing we're really really bad at), skirting boards/corners etc (I've got a robot vacuum now but the skirtings etc could really do with a bit more love!). I would like her to do bathrooms but I'm 90% certain that if I do that, DH will simply not do the bathrooms between her visits every fortnight and then it will be up to me or it won't get done. If it's not on her list, then DH can't just leave it for her (he does his share, but he has a very irritating habit of pushing the timeframe until he does things. Am currently MN'ing from bedroom to avoid sending him glares as its 5:09pm and he still hasn't cleaned the bathroom, changed the kids bedding or mopped the kitchen as he promised he would).

Campervan69 · 24/01/2021 17:12

Comes once a week and does the house from top to bottom. It helps us keep on top of the clutter as we tidy up the night before she comes. Hoovers, cleans kitchen and bathrooms, mops all floors.

trilbydoll · 24/01/2021 17:16

4 bed house, 3 hours a fortnight - kitchen, bathrooms and vacuum throughout. No time for extras.

We let them in and then go straight out, even in non Covid times, there is usually 4 of them so almost impossible to stay out of the way!

Autumnchill · 24/01/2021 17:18

My sister is my cleaner. She does 3hrs a week, hoovers living room, kitchen, dining, hall, stairs, landing, 3 bedrooms and mops same. Does downstairs loo, en-suite and shower room if we've used it and cleans kitchen sink/worktops. She's invaluable

marialuisa · 24/01/2021 17:18

3 hours every week. She’s super efficient and when DD isn’t here we’re not especially grubby so: kitchen surfaces, doors, hob, inside microwave; 3 bathrooms including shower screens etc.; hoovering, doors, skirting boards, cobwebs, mops hard floors, dusting. Does the hotel triangle on loo rolls....Will often not need full slot if DD not around and will do something big e.g. last week cleaned glass in ovens and inside ovens.
Had a cleaner when DD was small and just gone back to having none after a few years without. It’s a big relief not to wake up on Saturday morning and think about bleach tbh!

austenwildfell · 24/01/2021 17:19

Monday morning 3 hours,

Bathrooms (2) change beds, kitchen, clean floors, hoover stairs,
Concentrate on one area flick over others turn by turn.
We ALWAYS tidy first, we do washing up.

mamalovebird · 24/01/2021 17:20

My cleaner comes once a week for 2 hours. Her basic remit is dusting, the bathrooms, wash down kitchen doors and hoovering/mopping. She doesn't tidy so the floors they need to be clear for her (nice incentive for the kids to tidy their rooms). She also concentrates on one area at a time when she's here, so one week it might be doing the skirting boards, then the next week it's doing the windows (so things that wouldn't neccesarily need doing every week). We are in when she comes, the kids get on with her so they move rooms when she needs to get on. She is amazing.. I would go without other stuff to keep her!

hopeishere · 24/01/2021 17:21

Three who come for about an hour

Mop all downstairs- hall / family room / kitchen
Clean kitchen
Hoover stairs
Clean bathroom
Hoover and dust our bedroom
Hoover/ dust / tidy sitting room

Ireolu · 24/01/2021 17:23

Once a week. 3 hours. Mops, vacuums, dusts and polishes. Door handles, small bins and big bins at the end. Will do skirting boards, all surfaces in the all the rooms & Window sills. We used to do fortnightly but recently changed this to weekly as we felt for the amount of work she does it was worth her coming more often. It means I haven't hoovered our carpets upstairs for a few months and that makes me happy!

welshladywhois40 · 24/01/2021 17:25

Once a week for 4 bed house (two bedrooms not is regular use). General cleaning plus one bed change including ironed sheets.

We have three hours and three people come so we leave the house for that hour.

Works well

reluctantbrit · 24/01/2021 17:27

Once a week 4 hours. Normally only DH is working from home so she leaves the tiny study alone.

Since I wfh and DD is at home as well it is more tricky, it is not possible for her to clean while I work/DD has lessons so in a way she only does 3 hours but I still pay for 4. I think we will re-negotiate when the lockdown is over.

She has a key as. DH sometimes is on business trips or external meetings and she then lets herself in. She tells me by text when she comes and goes.

roarfeckingroarr · 24/01/2021 17:28

Once a week for 2-3 hours. She cleans the flat and changes the bed sheets in two rooms (London).
