How often do they come and what do they do in your home?

She comes for 4 hours once a week and just does a general clean really - surfaces, floors, bathroom etc. She has a list of bigger jobs that she then does on a rotation like tops of kitchen cupboards, windows, behind the fridge etc.

Bourbonic · 24/01/2021 23:12

Oh yes, she doesn't do the bedrooms or the laundry room.

HorseOfPhillipMoss · 24/01/2021 23:15

I miss mine so much, only came back last Jan after my mat leave (couldn't justify the expense) she cases for her CEV mum so out of action since last march. She comes for two hours a week cleans bathroom, kitchen, dusts/polishes and hoovers all round and mops floors. Used to come on a Thursday afternoon, so everything was clean for the weekend

ThatchersCold · 24/01/2021 23:15

Once a week for 2 hours.

Hoovers, mops, cleans bathroom and kitchen, dusts, changes bed linen every other week.

Atrixie · 24/01/2021 23:16

5 hours once a week. From September through I am going to have her 4 hours twice a week

HorseOfPhillipMoss · 24/01/2021 23:17

@pinkstripeycat I don't NEED to spend as much time when I'm not working with my child and husband, just prefer it to cleaning toilets

MiddleClassMother · 24/01/2021 23:27

I'm confused why people don't get their cleaners to do the bedrooms too... I do mine daily so it's always fresh and clean but my cleaner does a much better job!

Cleaners are definitely allowed, I specifically checked it out at the start of this lockdown.

We have a cleaner once a week for a four bed house (people in three of the bedrooms at the moment - zoom school/ wfh but also three bathrooms). Cleaner does deep clean kitchen and bathroom, lighter clean of other rooms. But if tidying too if I've not done a good job. Also does an hour of ironing.

@pinkstripeycat

I can’t imagine needing a cleaner in a 4 bed house. I clean after I use each room and the kids clean their own rooms and bathroom. I work full time and still manage it
Because I don’t want to. I hate cleaning, our cleaner is shielding so we have to do it ourselves and just want to use the time differently.

God, I hate this sort of self righteous comment. I work full time too. But I also like a clean house and frankly, I don't have the time and energy to dedicate to proper cleaning the way I'd like it so a cleaner is a godsend. If you enjoy cleaning and/or are happy to spend your free time cleaning and/or are happy with a lower standard, that's great. You go right ahead. But there's no reason to find it so hard to understand why someone else might not feel the same.

I spent 3 hours cleaning this weekend. I cleaned the bathrooms, changed the bedding, did "proper" dusting, did a "deep" clean of the kitchen. I'd argue that DH ad I are both pretty good at keeping the house clean on a day to day basis but there's still plenty to do on a weekly/fortnightly/monthly basis. I'm conscious that I need to clean the fridge but quite frankly, couldn't be bothered by the time I was done.

NastyBlouse · 25/01/2021 11:15

Ours comes once a fortnight, for four hours a time. I do the in-between clean much less well

He's ever so good. And not un-dishy. Grin And spectacularly, magnificently gay.

He dusts and vacuums, cleans the skirting boards, mops the hard floors, cleans the bathrooms and kitchen. He polishes the stainless steel sinks, cleans all the mirrors and windows (on the inside) and gives the kettle a descale every few weeks.

Once every six months I bung him an extra few quid and he cleans the oven and the fridge.

He doesn't iron (he would if I asked but I have a lovely local bloke I send that out to) or do laundry or washing up. And I tend to make the bed and tidy before he comes because I want him cleaning, not tidying up, and a tidy place makes it easier for him to do that.

Ultimately I get a cleaner in because they can do the job far better than I can.

JamesBeBlunt · 25/01/2021 13:43

All this has made me even more excited to get a cleaner! I hate cleaning and I’m pretty useless at it. With kids in the house, too, it’s a pretty thankless and endless task!

You'll not look back! My husband will clean but as we both work long hours and he's away most of the week not having to spend the weekend dishing out chores is bliss. We get to do stuff we want to do instead and I look at it also that I'm boosting employment!
