For making coffee this way?

Lighthearted...but I also am curious of answers šŸ˜‚.

So, I’m not really a coffee drinker...but I have an almost 2 year old who is a terrible sleeper so it’s needed haha.
I could only manage lovely sweet coffees (caramel latte or similar). So I bought a wee frother at the start of lockdown to attempt to make similar.

One day I ran out of milk though and we only had chocolate almond milk so I just used that.

OH MY GOD!!! It’s delicious!!

So I’ve been making one of them every morning. Ok it’s not the healthiest, but my diet is otherwise healthy and it’s not THAT different to a mocha. And definitely healthier l than all that caramel syrup I was using (I don’t add sugar or anything).

However I was chatting about it with a friend and she said it was absolutely ridiculous and no-one should have a coffee like that.

So mumsnetters! Help. Am I being unreasonable/ridiculous.

That just sounds like an almond mocha? Not my choice but if you like it fair enough!

Bubbles1st · 23/01/2021 08:00

Is it chocolate milk or with water still and just a bit of milk? I only ask as it sounds delicious!!

I usually only have one coffee a day and it's always a sachet of something sweet - my 3 month supply or chocolate orange cappuccino which my family from over seas sent has just ran out so I need a good alternative, haven't found anything in the UK as nice.

If you are otherwise healthy and you have one a day I say enjoy!

WeeDangerousSpike · 23/01/2021 08:01

That's just a mocha, it's perfectly normal!

helpwithhouse · 23/01/2021 08:05

See my friend says a mocha is mixing chocolate with coffee and adding milk, as opposed to chocolate milk.
I basically make a wee espresso then add warm frothy chocolate almond milk. Yuuuuuum.
But you’ve all made me feel a bit more normal haha

@Bubbles1st I think I need details of this chocolate orange cappuccino because that sounds amazing!!

Godimabitch · 23/01/2021 08:09

Probably healthier than a mocha

ApolloandDaphne · 23/01/2021 08:10

It is not for me but if you like it then you drink it.

fireplaceburning · 23/01/2021 08:14

Your friend is weird!
You are adding chocolate to the coffee it's just been added to the milk first.

Mocha is chocolate coffee and milk and that's what you've got Confused

OursonGuimauve · 23/01/2021 08:14

I do that, dark chocolate almond milk and espresso was a lovely accidental discovery last year. Your friend hasn't lived!

sarahc336 · 23/01/2021 08:15

Sounds like something costa would make so sounds normal to me Grin

Northernbeachbum · 23/01/2021 08:16

Sounds heavenly, thank you for the idea!

HNY2021 · 23/01/2021 08:18

Sounds lovely - adds chocolate almond milk to food delivery.

TheoriginalLEM · 23/01/2021 08:18

As i was reading that i was convinced you were going to say you used breast milk Grin

Notjustanymum · 23/01/2021 08:19

I think thats what you would call a mocha latte OP. Sounds lovely - I’m gonna try it!

wowfudge · 23/01/2021 08:19

Does it matter what your friend thinks? If you like it, you drink it. Sounds lovely - I have an almond milk latte every morning.

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 23/01/2021 08:20

Your friend is just jealous she hadn't thought of it first. What does she think chocolate milk is if not chocolate powder added to milk? You're just avoiding any powdery lumps.

Enjoy your coffee...I'm going to suggest this to DH.

justanotherneighinparadise · 23/01/2021 08:22

Sounds nice!!’

My morning coffee is wonderful. Drinking it now! It consists of a flavoured Beanie coffee - I have LOADS. Unsweetened coconut milk and topped up at the end with some whole milk. Whizzed in the microwave to make it super hot and that’s it. Low carb, no sugar, super tasty.

Oh I also add in some collagen powder šŸ‘Œ

Stupidusernamefaff · 23/01/2021 08:23

@TheoriginalLEM

As i was reading that i was convinced you were going to say you used breast milk Grin
I thought formula!
helpwithhouse · 23/01/2021 08:23

@TheoriginalLEM hahaha I do have a wee stash of that, but I can’t say I’ve been tempted to use it Grin

Well she's wrong. If you order a mocha in a coffee shop they add the chocolate powder to cold milk, then steam it, then pour it over an espresso.

ArabellaScott · 23/01/2021 09:12

Sounds lush.

Bubbles1st · 23/01/2021 09:15

@helpwithhouse
It's from Croatia, the only place I've seen it, so if anyone else has ever had this in the uk let me know where you sound it!

This is literally my last one, I am saving until for a special occasion like a bottle of champagne Grin

Sounds quick and easy and fabuous.
Brilliant improvising! šŸ‘
I love it when I try something like this
and end up with an all-time favourite.

Your friend sounds like a boring snob.

SomewhereInbetween1 · 23/01/2021 09:29

Ignore her. If you like it and it's doing the job then carry on! Grin

SchrodingersImmigrant · 23/01/2021 09:42

Your friend will be very disappointed when she realises mocha is just hot chocolate with espresso in it šŸ˜‚
