For making coffee this way?

Lighthearted...but I also am curious of answers šŸ˜‚.

So, I’m not really a coffee drinker...but I have an almost 2 year old who is a terrible sleeper so it’s needed haha.
I could only manage lovely sweet coffees (caramel latte or similar). So I bought a wee frother at the start of lockdown to attempt to make similar.

One day I ran out of milk though and we only had chocolate almond milk so I just used that.

OH MY GOD!!! It’s delicious!!

So I’ve been making one of them every morning. Ok it’s not the healthiest, but my diet is otherwise healthy and it’s not THAT different to a mocha. And definitely healthier l than all that caramel syrup I was using (I don’t add sugar or anything).

However I was chatting about it with a friend and she said it was absolutely ridiculous and no-one should have a coffee like that.

So mumsnetters! Help. Am I being unreasonable/ridiculous.

@Bubbles1st

Is it chocolate milk or with water still and just a bit of milk? I only ask as it sounds delicious!!

I usually only have one coffee a day and it's always a sachet of something sweet - my 3 month supply or chocolate orange cappuccino which my family from over seas sent has just ran out so I need a good alternative, haven't found anything in the UK as nice.

If you are otherwise healthy and you have one a day I say enjoy!

Lidl has chocolate orange syrup

I did wonder what you were putting in your coffee when I saw the words ā€œwee frotherā€. Grin. But your coffee sounds delicious.

Somethingkindaoooo · 23/01/2021 09:54

I make coffee with chocolate or vanilla soy all the time

alienspiderbee · 23/01/2021 10:06

I wouldn't really consider what you're making to be coffee, however judging by the popularity of the flavoured concoctions you see in coffee shops I'm probably alone in that. I once made a latte with coconut milk and it was like drinking shampoo!

But if you like it what does it matter what your friend thinks?

WhereDoMyBluebirdsFly · 23/01/2021 10:17

Your friend is being a dick, you can drink anything you want, it's not like you're adding an oxo cube to your coffee!

I love espresso with a dash of hazelnut milk. It just adds a little somethin' somethin'

InconvenientPeg · 23/01/2021 10:21

I only drink extremely strong black coffee.

Surely the point is, you drink your coffee however you like it best, there aren't 'coffee rules'!

ClinkyMonkey · 23/01/2021 11:32

See, I wouldn't even have the brains to use whatever was in the house. If I ran out of milk, it would be no coffee for me!

Anyway, it sounds lovely (I might try it) and your friend overdoing the old outrage by calling it 'absolutely ridiculous'. It's not as if you're making your coffee with half a bottle of whiskey. Now there's an idea .... Grin

MrsPernicious · 23/01/2021 11:35

CMPA here, this is the way I make mocha all the time. Only use about one fifth of a cup of cholate almond stuff or it is too sweet.

freeandfierce · 23/01/2021 11:39

@CounsellorTroi
That gave me my first laugh if the day!

NataliaOsipova · 23/01/2021 11:42

Drink your coffee how you like it - your friend isn’t the coffee police. And she’s wrong; last time I went to Costa (a dim memory now 🤣), my friend asked for a mocha. I watched them make it and they basically made hot chocolate and poured it over the espresso in the glass.

Kottbullar · 23/01/2021 11:45

Make it however you like.
I often make mine with frothed milk and Baileys and my children make hot chocolate with strawberry nesquick froth.

BonnieDundee · 23/01/2021 11:48

If you like it go for it. Doesnt matter if someone else wouldnt like it

Ariela · 23/01/2021 11:59

Your friend is clearly a coffee snob.
If YOU like it how you make, it's YOU drinking it.

Glitterblue · 23/01/2021 12:08

I think it sounds lovely actually!! And if YOU like it, that's all that matters Smile

ivykaty44 · 23/01/2021 13:16

See my friend says a mocha is mixing chocolate with coffee and adding milk, as opposed to chocolate milk.

what is the difference?

helpwithhouse · 23/01/2021 13:16

Thanks everyone!!
And yeah....I’m just Scottish. I meant a SMALL frother...nothing too weird here šŸ˜‚.

In all fairness i would keep drinking it no matter what my friend said, I was just curious about what others think.

What does it matter what your friend thinks if you love it go ahead. She is not the coffee police. If a friend told me what way she took her coffee I would never think of commenting on it unless it was very unusual like as someone mentioned adding an oxo cube. Even then I would just say that it wouldn't be my taste but wouldn't dream of telling her off. saying this as someone who years ago used to love ryvita spread with butter and apricot jam
