Inauguration too touchy feelie?

Just watching the American Inauguration. There is little social distancing, everyone is too close together and they are shaking hands and hugging. Joe Biden, Obama, Clinton, Bush, Lady Gaga, J-Lo and all their hangers on. The virus will spread like wildfire. And the Democrats are meant to be in favour of social distancing! It’s making me deeply uncomfortable.

OP posts:

Oh give over ffs. Just give over.

inquietant · 20/01/2021 21:05

I did find it odd, I wondered if there had been testing beforehand?

But most importantly, what relief to have a new president.

TheCap · 20/01/2021 21:07

I’m guessing they have all, without exception, been extensively tested.

BlueThistles · 20/01/2021 21:08

every person there would have been immunised a long time ago

wowfudge · 20/01/2021 21:08

They've all been tested several times in the run up.

simonthedog · 20/01/2021 21:09

I think they will have all been tested

JazzyGeoff · 20/01/2021 21:09

I think I saw that everyone there had to have tested negative.

JaquelineBeanstalk · 20/01/2021 21:10

There was lots of masks and social distancing! I have belief that the new president believes these things are important.

Trulyatraditionalman · 20/01/2021 21:12

YABU Biscuit

hopeishere · 20/01/2021 21:15

They've all had to have covid tests. It's not a guarantee but hopefully mitigating.

lljkk · 20/01/2021 21:18

You really don't want to see what white house events have been like in last 6m, OP, wrt social distancing.

YougoFargo · 20/01/2021 21:18

God some people are like broken records and I just wish I could have a way of hiding these boring threads without having to open them.

I thought this was going to be about Biden’s speech and was coming on to say YABU

But YABU for what you’ve written anyway

torquewench · 20/01/2021 21:20

I just wondered why it has to be turned into a big showbizzy event? Saw a comment ealier about it being like half time at the Superbowl with Lady Gaga murdering singing the national anthem. Also dont get the fuss about there being a female VP, given how many countries already have/have had female leaders? About time they caught up...

EarringsandLipstick · 20/01/2021 21:20

OP YANBU!

I, too, was amazed at all the close contact.

Testing or not, social distancing needs to be at the core of how we all conduct ourselves. Especially with the high cases in the US.

Not sure why OP is getting hammered here!

Jumpjumpjumper · 20/01/2021 21:23

Because we are sick and bloody tired of hearing broken records.
Social distancing, covid, masks.... Blah blah blah we bloody know.
I work in the NHS, I hear it there. It's all over social media (which I've now deleted), it's all over the news. And now we have yet another boring thread about it.

I need another brown-painted-pigeon thread.

Masks - yes

Social distancing - no

Well, if people did it, we could stop having it all over the news & SM.

Especially in the United States, which has barely needed the advice, in many cases & hence has deaths of 402k

Agree with you about the female VP. Said similar to someone earlier. Even some quite conservative religious countries have had female leaders!

I don't know of any other country who makes a meal out of changing leader, but of course, over here we make the same fuss or more when a new head of state is crowned or one of their offspring marry, so we can't talk!

hellojim · 20/01/2021 21:29

Yes I agree Op. Considering Covid is one of Biden's priorities it did seem strange. It seemed as if Biden and Harris in particular were looking round to see who they could grab next!! It looked shambolic.

HibernatingTill2030 · 20/01/2021 21:30

OP is not being unreasonable, governments and high profile people need to set an example.

ithinkyouareveryrude · 20/01/2021 21:30

I believe they have all been tested and anyone who hasn’t was not in the box. That being said I imagine they were all vaccinated weeks if not months ago.

LaceyBetty · 20/01/2021 21:31

They just do t get it. Even the ones who get it, don't.

Hadjab · 20/01/2021 21:32

Donny, is that you?

All guests were tested regularly in the run up to the event.

GhostCurry · 20/01/2021 21:32

Oh for goodness sake of course they were tested!

My friend works for a company that will shortly be recording their annual broadcast of developments from the year etc. She and all participants are being tested every day in the two weeks before it’s filmed.

If they can manage that, I am fairly certain that a few hundred Covid tests can be rustled up in preparation for the US presidential inauguration ceremony.

Twistered · 20/01/2021 21:34

They had all tested negative
