Inauguration too touchy feelie?

Just watching the American Inauguration. There is little social distancing, everyone is too close together and they are shaking hands and hugging. Joe Biden, Obama, Clinton, Bush, Lady Gaga, J-Lo and all their hangers on. The virus will spread like wildfire. And the Democrats are meant to be in favour of social distancing! It’s making me deeply uncomfortable.

Chrissy Teigen said she had to have a negative covid test every day for 10 days for John Legend to be able to perform - the whole family had to be negative for all that time. I'm sure everyone else had the same continuous testing.

Backbee · 21/01/2021 11:39

Do as we say, not as we do. In the spirit of 2021, why not hold it over zoom. We might have been spared the self indulgent performances of lady gaga and jlo then. The only person it would be worth having appear 'in person' was Amanda Gordon.

Mia1415 · 21/01/2021 11:48

It's literally been all over the news that all of them had to be tested beforehand. Most (if not all) of them have been vaccinated. They all wore masks. It's a momentous day and they are human.

TorringtonDean · 21/01/2021 12:09

The US President is also seen (or likes to see himself) as the leader of the free world. And this is the example they set? It only takes on Marine to sneak off to a party (thinking they are all tested or vaccinated) and there will be a big spate of cases.

Would you say the same if Trump and his colleagues/family did this?

So what. We all know that tests when incubating the virus and symptomless can give false negatives.

They should have put their egos to one side and led by example. Again, Trump's team's rightly got criticised for similar behaviour. Where is the consistency in the reporting by the msm? It's been a non stop display of nauseating hypocrisy.

LaceyBetty · 21/01/2021 12:56

The fact that they were all tested and therefore were allowed to socialise and hug just shows ridiculous privilege vis a vis those who don't get to do this (at weddings, funerals etc). It may not result in a spread of the virus, but seems so, so unfair to the average american watching (my family included). Just disappointing.

gwenneh · 21/01/2021 13:17

Would you say the same if Trump and his colleagues/family did this?

Yes. It would have been SUCH an easy win for them, too, along with ANY sort of coordinated pandemic response. I despised Trump but would have wholeheartedly got on board if they'd managed to do something that benefitted the people as a whole.

cabingirl · 21/01/2021 16:34

At the first Whitehouse press conference, the press sec said that everyone working in the Whitehouse was being tested every single day.

So if there was any spreading from the inauguration it's going to become obvious fairly quickly.

cabingirl · 21/01/2021 16:40

Also here in the USA each State is setting it's own regulations and often it's down to a county level for schools etc.

So my state is being fairly cautious - although nothing like the UK, and no repercussions for anyone who doesn't want to comply. A lot of people who live near me are living their lives like nothing has changed - socialising, going to Disneyland etc, going to Mexico for a long weekend on the beach, parties, weddings.

Our county has schools out and DL since last March - but that's just the state schools so lots of parents simply transferred their kids to the private schools which are all still open.

But lots of States have no serious regulations at all - so all it takes is a few people to travel from one place to the next to keep spreading the virus. All the States have different policies for the vaccinations too. It's chaos.

megletthesecond · 21/01/2021 16:43

Yanbu.
I was hoping they've been repeatedly tested for a couple of weeks. Garth Brooks hugging everyone was a dick.
Hopefully it won't be a super spreader event. They were in masks and outside.

cazisalittlenuts · 21/01/2021 16:44

The PP who mentioned lady gagas "eagle" brooch, it was actually a peace dove, carrying an olive branch.

Buddytheelf85 · 21/01/2021 17:06

Again, Trump's team's rightly got criticised for similar behaviour.

Was it similar? I don’t think I’d say it was similar. Biden didn’t go on a ride-along with his chauffeur whilst knowingly Covid positive. Or host any super-spreader rallies with no attempt at social distancing or masks. Or fuel anti-Covid conspiracy theories.

GreenSlide · 21/01/2021 17:09

Surely they've all been vaccinated as well as tested regularly. But yes it is annoying they they can all mingle at a fabulous event whilst we, the plebs, are basically locked in our houses.

cyclingmad · 22/01/2021 14:22

There was a speech Biden did to reporters on the covid chnages he is implementing and he said masks and social distancing on federal properties.

Ahhhhh but you see its for all the plebs because of course he and everyone else is exempt at the inauguration....what a hypocrite! Could believe it when I heard him say that.

Oh and msm will never report anything negative, if it had been Trump it would have been headlines everywhere.

Just remeber that most msm and social are left leaning and pro dem. Take twitter, made a huge deal about banning Trump because he incited violence. Yet today the Iran leader tweets inciting violence and taking revenge against Trump and yet twitter has not banned him.

Right there is the hypocrisy and people wonder why other people look at that and think wtf is going on and how conspiracies start

Happy now, cycling?

Of course not.

cyclingmad · 22/01/2021 17:04

@pointythings

Its something but since they went ahead and then went ahead and started banning all related accounts ....when will they actually do the same. I mean seriously they are just doing it to save face but when it comes down to it they don't follow through properly.

This afternoon, Khamenei’s account was suspended for violating Twitter’s rules, however, another account attributed to the leader, with over 800,000 followers, is still active.
