Hi all

My little bubba will be 3 weeks tomorrow.
I started the pregnancy at around 52-54kg and by the time I went in and got induced for RFM I was 72kg 👀

Was in hospital for a week, 5 days of which in postnatal ward.
Weighed myself after I got home and was at 62kg. Didn’t expect such a drop (mind you my LB was 3.44kg 😅)

The other day I Was going to the shop and was freezing and I thought to myself “ i’ll put on my fave winter jacket, it should fit, I’ve got no huge bump anymore..” Boy was I wrong!!
I couldn’t zip it - my hips must be huge now..

and Real question now is - Has anyone got back to their previous size especially hips wise? How long did it take for your body to recover on its own?

I don’t do gym or exercises, my job kept me in an ok shape.

Please have in mind this is not about looking like a model or making anyone feel bad about their PP body!
I’m just curious of other people’s experience (and also have 2-3 wardrobes bursting with clothes of my pre-pregnancy size so I just want reassurance it’s possible to get back to previous size with no training etc as I’ve also read the change in hips is a permanent one 😭)

I was so shocked that I wasn’t straight back into pre pregnancy clothes within a month! I have three kids and weigh the same as I did beforehand now the youngest is one. However I am a very different shape, mostly because my stomach muscles have gone. I will have to do a bit of work on that if I ever get out of homeschooling hell.
Hips I can’t advise on! I know my ribs are slightly wider.

Feetupteashot · 15/01/2021 21:39

Nope. Half a stone heavier now. Haven't made a massive effort to lose it, wt came down with breastfeeding to about that level then got stuck as still have bfeeding appetite despite stopping 1ya :)
I don't really care now but I will if any family weddings actually go ahead and I have to buy something new...

AnneLovesGilbert · 15/01/2021 21:45

My hips look wider when I’m naked nearly two years on but my old jeans still fit fine, so something’s changed but not sure what.

I went down a bra size in the ribs a year after having her despite no weight loss.

All sorts of weird and wonderful things happen during and after pregnancy! I got decent eyebrows for the first time when I was pregnant and I’ve still got them.

I put on 2 stone and lost it all within 6 or 8 weeks but my shape was a bit different and has continued to change in the time since. I’ve got a few friends who went up a shoe size and never went back to before so it could be worse.

SquidInALid · 15/01/2021 21:48

Yes back to normal after about 9 months. No huge rush. No special secret. I was Huge with both my pregnancies but am naturally quite thin.

twinklespells · 15/01/2021 21:50

I gained 18kgs and have lost 16kgs by 6m post partum. I don't know if my hips changed really but I'm nearly back in pre pregnancy clothes. No dieting etc here either.

Hilarias · 15/01/2021 22:34

Lost a lot of weight breastfeeding a guzzling toddler during last lockdown but regained a lot of it over Christmas. My ribs are definitely still much wider 2 years on. Have a drawer full of my lovely fancy bras that won’t fasten around my back now Sad

MusicalTrifleMonkey · 16/01/2021 05:17

I’m 3 months in. I gained very little weight yet have a belly and big hips. My weight is only a few pounds over what it was before I got pregnant so no idea what’s going on. Hating it as none of my clothes fit so I’m wearing leggings and my husbands jumpers. I look like utter shit.
Way too tired to do any exercise other than walking, no idea if it will ever go away ☹️

CovidCakeConundrum · 16/01/2021 06:34

I was smaller than before by 3 months post partum. Think I breastfed all the weight off. Then lockdown hit and now I'm 6lbs heavier. Hips fit in the same jeans but my waist lost the super nipped in look. Still an hourglass figure but not quite as exaggerated iykwim. Baby was worth it though 😀

iamverytired · 16/01/2021 06:43

15 weeks pp, feel like I'm looking the same shape as before but just the last few pounds of fat to shift off my frame. Have about half a stone to go, done no exercise and only starting cutting back on eating everything I wanted from 8 weeks (went from approx 11 stone 12 down to 10 stone 4 in 8 weeks with no effort after birth, now down to 9 stone 10 from just eating healthily

Peanutbutterblood · 16/01/2021 07:07

I was 10 stone size 10 before my babies, I cant remember how much I gained with my first but inbetween babies I was a 12. When dd2 was 1 i stopped breastfeeding and weighed 10.8 stone. It's now a year after that and I exercise quite a lot, running mainly and I est well. I'm under 10stone but my shape has definitely changed forever. I dont think my pelvis/hips could ever get into a size 10 again. People are shocked when I say I'm wearing size 12 jeans as I do look slim but my bones just cant get into a 10 even though my thighs and legs could probably wear an 8

HikeForward · 16/01/2021 07:15

My hips widened a bit but went back to normal after a few weeks (I think your ligaments stretch to allow the baby more space as it exits the pelvis, so as the ligaments tighten up your hips and pelvic bones shrink back.

I wore a ‘belly bandit’ after mostly for back support but it helped support my abs too and everything seemed to heal faster with the compression. Friends who’ve worn compression corset things have said the same.

The remains of my bump disappeared after a few days (breastfeeding helps as it makes the womb contract and shrink and burns any excess fat. After a few months of breastfeeding I was the thinnest I’ve ever been!)

letsmakethetea · 16/01/2021 07:18

I was about the same as you before and after and about six months in all my clothes fit again. Only had one baby.

MrsFluffyMuff · 16/01/2021 07:18

I have 4 children, it took around 12 weeks to get back to size a 10, I think breastfeeding really helped

YukoandHiro · 16/01/2021 07:19

@MusicalTrifleMonkey I'm in exactly the same position. After my first I lost all the weight and then some within a month or two. Now with my second after three months I've lost quite a lot of the actual pounds but my shape has utterly changed and nothing I own fits. I think I'm going to do a massive clear out and buy a new wardrobe because right now I look like total crap and also living in leggings and baggy jumpers

Skullcup · 16/01/2021 07:21

Even when I returned to my pregnancy weight, I never returned to my original shape. My waist has been AWOL ever since.

Skullcup · 16/01/2021 07:22

Pre pregnancy weight rather.

Three weeks is also pretty early days. I did have c sections but it was closer to six weeks before I felt like things settled after having DC.

BeardieWeirdie · 16/01/2021 07:22

I was 57kg (at (5’6” so 8-10) before getting pregnant with both babies. First baby, I gained 10kg, lost 9kg by 2 weeks, another 1kg by four weeks and by the time she was 6 months, I’d lost another 3kg through exclusive breastfeeding and looked awful. I was far too thin and couldn’t maintain a healthy weight despite eating a ridiculous amount. Once I introduced solids, my weight went up to normal 57kg gradually. Similar story with baby #2 but I gained 13kg and took a few weeks more to get to my normal size. No difference to my hips but boobs are definitely bigger.

riotlady · 16/01/2021 07:26

My hips didn’t change much but my feet stayed half a size bigger!

Kingkong66 · 16/01/2021 07:34

I put on 3-3.5st when pregnant. Lost 2 instantly and another 1/2 stone within 2months but the last stone didn’t shift. Pregnant again now and praying I don’t put as much on. Bf too so that didn’t work for me but I seem to be a minority going off this thread!

Popskipiekin · 16/01/2021 07:51

My ribs are much wider. I actually weigh less than pre pregnancy, though normally wear the same clothes size, but all my nice slim fit dresses had to be ditched as they wouldn’t do up the back. Oh and I have no boobs. So disheartening. It’s 4 years on now so I think this is it. Oh and I got rid of several pairs of lovely shoes too! Feet bigger now.

Lullaby88 · 16/01/2021 08:01

Went back to normal and slimmer but i trained snd ate healthy. Took me 6 months. But i lost more weight than pre preg. I had to buy new clothes in smaller sizes. Cant advice if u dont want to exercise tho.

Tomatobear · 16/01/2021 08:02

I lost the weight (19kg Blush) very quickly but my shape is definitely different. My hips are ribs are definitely wider!

shouldistop · 16/01/2021 08:11

Even when I got back to pre pregnancy weight with my first I never got back into my old jeans or fitted dresses or some shoes. My hips, rib cage and feet are permanently bigger.
Good news they didn't get any bigger in second pregnancy.

MusicalTrifleMonkey · 16/01/2021 08:13

@YukoandHiro I have been holding off buying anything new as I’m so hopeful I can fit back into stuff after a few more months! Can’t face up to it yet. I think my tummy muscles are shot. So frustrating as who has the time or money with a baby to buy a whole new wardrobe!

MusicalTrifleMonkey · 16/01/2021 08:14

@Lullaby88 I don’t think it’s a case of not wanting to exercise but it’s finding the time and the energy with a new baby.
