Hi all

My little bubba will be 3 weeks tomorrow.
I started the pregnancy at around 52-54kg and by the time I went in and got induced for RFM I was 72kg 👀

Was in hospital for a week, 5 days of which in postnatal ward.
Weighed myself after I got home and was at 62kg. Didn’t expect such a drop (mind you my LB was 3.44kg 😅)

The other day I Was going to the shop and was freezing and I thought to myself “ i’ll put on my fave winter jacket, it should fit, I’ve got no huge bump anymore..” Boy was I wrong!!
I couldn’t zip it - my hips must be huge now..

and Real question now is - Has anyone got back to their previous size especially hips wise? How long did it take for your body to recover on its own?

I don’t do gym or exercises, my job kept me in an ok shape.

Please have in mind this is not about looking like a model or making anyone feel bad about their PP body!
I’m just curious of other people’s experience (and also have 2-3 wardrobes bursting with clothes of my pre-pregnancy size so I just want reassurance it’s possible to get back to previous size with no training etc as I’ve also read the change in hips is a permanent one 😭)

I had similar weight gain with DS's 1 and 2. Now 7m with dc3 and the same again 🙄

I got back to my pre pregnancy weight after about a year but it took 2 years for my hips to shrink back.

I also judged my hip size by my winter coat! Wouldn't go anywhere near me for quite a while after DS1 but I did enjoy seeing the zip get closer and closer to doing up until it did eventually, in less than a year I would say. It was soooo far from doing up to start with so it's so amazing how your body can slowly shrink down without too much effort, I did watch what I ate but no drastic diets. I'm currently 6 weeks pp and haven't even bothered trying the trusty coat again yet, but will use it as my guide again soon!

On DD1 my body shrank back very quickly and I was back to my normal shape within 3 months. On DD2 who is now 10 weeks, I was back in my jeans by week 3, but they are tight! I am one of those women who is telling herself she is a size 10 when in reality she is squeezing the jeans on. Also, I think I bought bigger jeans between DD1 and DD2. I have put on about 6lbs from the pregnancy which isnt much to some but I am a very small woman. I have bigger hips, pudgy belly, fat on my arms, all of which I want to do something about .... although saying that I keep eating chocolate.... I am trying to fit a joe wicks in twice a week, and walk faster with the double buggy

I’m naturally very slim but also was shocked that a few weeks postpartum I couldn’t do a coat up because of my hips! With my last baby I was in tiny skirts that I couldn’t even wear pre-pregnancy at one year postpartum. I attribute that to breastfeeding. I’m now 6 weeks postpartum and just now starting to get comfortably back into jeans and tightening bra straps, so it does go back to some sort of normal.

I'm 3 weeks pp after second child. I put on 2.5 stone with my first and managed to lose almost all of it, when I got pregnant with ds I was 4lbs heavier than I was when I got pregnant with dd. but out on between 3 and 3.5 stone this time. I've lost a stone but haven't been dieting yet as it was Xmas and new year etc. My stomach and top half has shrunk alot but I'm still no where near fitting into my pre pregnancy jeans and I dont know if I ever will as my hips do seem to be alot wider than they were

WitchQueenofDarkness · 16/01/2021 09:28

No change on the hips. I was back in my jeans within a week. I was very sick every day of the pregnancy and all the weight was baby. I was actually lighter post birth than I was before becoming pregnant and I really didn’t have that weight to lose.

My rib cage though was permanently stretched and my bra size back stayed 2” more.

I did go back to shape quite quickly, but I was lucky not to gain a lot of weight during pregnancy. Bfeeding+walking with a pram 2 hours every day helped a lot

Terracottasaur · 16/01/2021 09:37

I’m 6 weeks post partum and thinner now than when I fell pregnant, but I think that’s because I had gestational diabetes so for the last trimester of my pregnancy I was following a careful diet and lost a fair bit of weight. Plus breastfeeding has helped me drop more.

My body is a very different shape though - boobs are massive, tummy somewhat saggier (not helped by huge c-section scar), bum flatter. I’m taking it for what it is at the moment (the vessel that was home for my beloved son) and taking a relaxed approach to the changes.

The first time I did, I was breastfeeding and went a walk with the baby in a buggy every day and it took about 5 - 6 months, eating normally
The second time I didnt, I had a bad sleeper and was too tired to do anything and eat a load of cake. Wish I had as it is really hard to shift now!

I’ve had two big babies (big bumps too). After baby one I went back to roughly my pre pregnancy shape after a year with slightly larger hips and a tummy that was never there before plus obviously stretch marks etc.

After baby 2 my body seems to have given up the fight. I managed to get down to within half a stone of my pre pregnancy weight before Xmas, thanks to cheese and biscuits I’ve put a few pounds. The difference for me is how I carry the weight. I used to have a flat belly and big bum and legs. Now any weight goes straight onto my belly to look like a bump again
