My 13yr old lad has been fine all day, around 7ish says he his feeling funny, has a sore throat and abit dizzy. Hes been in bed since, I took his temp at half 7ish he was fine no temp, I've just took it again and he's 37.8.
He has left the house twice in the last two weeks, once with me at Costco and to the chip shop tonight at around 5ish. This is what's making me think might just be a dodgy chipshop?? No one else had chips and me and my girls went Costco no signs or anything from us?? What does it sound like to you? I've ordered a test to be delivered just incase😔

I think you’ve done the right thing. My son was positive with next to no symptoms. Fingers crossed that it’s just a dodgy chip.

AndcalloffChristmas · 14/01/2021 23:09

Yeah I don’t think you can know without a test. Don’t over worry, stay in as you have been anyway until the test and then you’ll know.
Hope he feels ok tomorrow either way.

NewYearNewLockdown · 14/01/2021 23:12

We all got sore throats and dizziness with covid, also a temp of around 37.7/8, so high but not too high.
You've done the right thing ordering a test.

Ispini · 14/01/2021 23:16

Hope he will be ok. I had a sore throat, a slight cough and was absolutely exhausted for the past 4/5 days. Another of my symptoms was profuse sweating for days. Today was the first time I could get up and have something to eat. I am waiting for test results but am convinced it was Covid despite my symptoms. Apparently the new strains are presenting different symptoms.
Keep a close eye on him. Good luck.

Kidsaregrim · 14/01/2021 23:29

Why in hell are you going Costco and chip shop? How are they essential?

And we wonder why people are dying!!

HoneysuckIejasmine · 14/01/2021 23:31

Well, as both those places are good stores, I think we can guess...

HoneysuckIejasmine · 14/01/2021 23:31

*food ffs

Indecisive12 · 14/01/2021 23:35

He isn’t going to catch it from the chip shop at 5 and have symptoms at 7. That’s not how it works.

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 14/01/2021 23:37

I think OP is hoping its a food issue rather than covid, @indecisive12

The new variant apparently has more flu like symptoms than previous so good to have it tested just in case.

Jojojo32 · 14/01/2021 23:37

Excuse me..... I went Costco to bulk buy stuff so I don't need to go to a shop every few days, I didn't realise needing to fed my family wasn't essential.....

Scottishskifun · 14/01/2021 23:38

If positive then most likely to be costco if that's the only interaction he has had its 3-5 days since exposure for a large percentage of people.

It is how it works if they’re dodgy chips surely ? No chance did he catch covid from the chip shop and be ill already.
Indecisive12 · 14/01/2021 23:39

@TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup That makes a lot more sense 😂 I withdraw my case.

Backtoschool101 · 14/01/2021 23:41

DH had a high temp of 39 but it went down quickly with paracetamol but was sweating then cold on and off and an awful cough. Lost his appetite and couldn't sleep. I then got it. Cough, hot and cold but no temp and lost my sense of smell and taste. Felt really dizzy and sick and just the worst I had ever felt.

PugInTheHouse · 14/01/2021 23:43

FFS There's always one Hmm we had chippy tea too last night, we are both working crazy hours due to covid and i forgot to defrost the meat. We could have had beans on toast I guess!!

You did the right thing re the test, symptoms vary so much and it seems even more so now that people are getting different symptoms from the main ones but are testing positive.

ILovesPeanuts · 14/01/2021 23:43

Tiredness seems to be a factor in a lot of cases - my DD13 was exhausted. Temperature got to 38 so she was tested and it was positive. She was over the temperature in 24 hours and only sign was tiredness for another day or two. Mostly very mild in young teens.

JudyGemstone · 14/01/2021 23:45

My 16 year old had a mild sore throat and fever, tested negative for covid. Could easily be any other winter virus but obviously test and isolate to be on the safe side.

Absolutely FA to do with you. Have you always been nosy or is it a covid thing ?

Indecisive12 · 14/01/2021 23:56

We had a chippy last week, it was lovely. Takeaways are allowed and why the hell i shouldn’t I, we have little other pleasures.

TheMawisbraw · 14/01/2021 23:57

I just got a negative test result this morning, started with a sore throat at weekend then after a few days I got a temp and felt like I had been hit by a bus, still got a tight sore chest so it must be just a run of the mill upper respiratory virus/infection I have

Feelingconfused2020 · 15/01/2021 00:20

Why in hell are you going Costco and chip shop? How are they essential?

If they're not surely the government should close them. As all non essential retail is closed.

@Kidsaregrim you run fecking stupid comment of the day ⭐️
LondonStone · 15/01/2021 00:30

You’ve done the right thing by getting a test, the rest is just wait and see unfortunately. DH and I were unwell over Christmas with cold/flu symptoms, we thought ‘oh no here we go...’ but both negative. Crossing my fingers for you, people still get unwell or eat dodgy food so it could just be that.

Kidsaregrim · 16/01/2021 13:53

Maybe because I have spent the past year dealing with peoples stupidness! Maybe because I’m sick and tired of people whinging about getting sick and then going out in groups to the shop or chip shop!

Maybe I’m pissed that I’m following the rules by keeping my kids at home for the last 5 weeks to keep others safe and the OP can’t!

Anyone can eat, order it, go alone to buy it, you know, REDUCE THE RISK!

Indecisive12 · 16/01/2021 13:56

@Kidsaregrim maybe OP is a single parent with no car so had to take the children with her to help carry stuff? Maybe the 13 year old went alone to the chip shop. Our chip shop is operating from a hatch so the risk is extremely low and I’ll continue to go and enjoy my chips and feel happy that I’m helping keep a business afloat.
