Should I pay for the additional features? How many of you are on the premium version? If so, would you recommend it? Why?

YABU: don't spend the money.
YANBU: yes, sign up for the premium version

What does the premium offer that the standard doesn't and what is the cost?

PegasusReturns · 13/01/2021 13:05

Of be happier to support a paid version if there was a more coherent approach to deletions both in terms of individual posts and threads.

I don’t support the current approach so I won’t pay for it.

Same4Walls · 13/01/2021 13:05

Errrm genuine question but what additional features?

I've seen absolutely nothing at all that would prompt me to think signing up was worth the frankly huge monthly fee.

Sheleg · 13/01/2021 13:06

Don't pay! We are the product here. Our content is what attracts ad revenue.

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 13/01/2021 13:52

Well that seems to be a fairly unanimous view. Although someone did vote for joining.

Yeah, someone who works for Mumsnet.
ShetlandWife · 13/01/2021 13:54

I saw then try to make it appealing by saying it costs less than a gin and tonic.

I can't imagine a time where I wouldn't rather have the g&t to be honest...

BornIn78 · 13/01/2021 13:55

I can't see what premium actually offers.

It doesn't make MN ad-free, they say "fewer ads".

All of the discount benefits and codes I've seen so far can be easily found via Google or various other forums or you get that discount when you subscribe to the website you're buying from anyway (and then you can unsubscribe as soon as you've bought whatever it is you wanted).

I just don't understand what you actually get for your money? Apart from the ability to quote other posts within your own.

Aloamilk · 13/01/2021 13:55

I joined, it's worth it for me as I come on here a lot, much more do than reading a magazine tbh. I've been on for 16 years so think I've had my monies worth

WorraLiberty · 13/01/2021 13:56

Not while the features are as basic as they are.

Same4Walls · 13/01/2021 13:57

That's not exclusive to premium members. Click the 3 dots at the bottom of a post and then click on the word quote. Grin

I don't think quoting posts is a premium feature.

I can do it...

Oh God yeah Grin when did that happen?

A few months ago. Enjoy. GrinGrin

EarthWonderer · 13/01/2021 14:01

'See all ops posts' now seems to be a premium feature as I can't actually do that anymore when following a thread, and want to read ops post to get a sense of it. But as far as I know, it's the only one.

BornIn78 · 13/01/2021 14:01

Grin Grin I shall.

Well then MN Premium offers even less than I thought.

Again this is not a premium feature. I can still see all the posts from the OP on a thread. It's at the bottom of the first post and says see next and see all.
AlternativePerspective · 13/01/2021 14:05

Fact is there aren’t any additional features, and paying for premium means you’re essentially contributing to their £360k a month wage bill.

MN is a multi million £ company and we are the product. Without the users there would be no MN.

Princesspickle777 · 13/01/2021 14:06

I’ve signed up to pay monthly for premium due to the fact that they’ve said premium members get first dibs at product tests which I enjoy doing. I see no other benefit to premium at all. IMO it’s not worth it.

And there's me been copying and pasting still on the assumption quoting wasn't for the likes of me! Thank you very much Grin

I have this feature and don’t pay.
SomeonesRealName · 13/01/2021 14:07

I just paid it to support the independence of the site and reduce the potential for advertiser pressure on content.

AlternativePerspective · 13/01/2021 14:08

Tbh I can’t quote posts hence why I copy/paste, but am assuming it’s an accessibility thing as I’m using a screenreader. And the rest of the site is ok so I don’t need that,

Same4Walls · 13/01/2021 14:09

Glad to have helped. Go forth and quote liberally Grin.

WorraLiberty · 13/01/2021 14:09

I can quote posts and 'see all' OPs posts and I'm not a Premium member either.
