Should I pay for the additional features? How many of you are on the premium version? If so, would you recommend it? Why?

YABU: don't spend the money.
YANBU: yes, sign up for the premium version

@AlternativePerspective £360k a month wage bill Bl**dy hell! How many people does MN employ? I thought it'd be a few to run the site and a few to sell ads. Obviously not.

No way am I paying for something that other sites offer for free as standard. Fewer adverts - if I'm paying I want no ads and many more features. Also the inability to delete your own posts is ridiculous. I posted something in one of the other group chats when I first joined supporting some other posters and relating personal experience, the OP and others saw it and that was the end of my contribution whilst other posters continued discussing. Few hours later, I was not comfortable with what I had posted as felt it was quite personal. Had to ask MNHQ to delete - which took forever and felt like the interrogation by the Spanish inquisition as to why I wanted it deleted- I just did. Much easier to just be abusive or inflammatory so your post gets deleted without all the questions and having to ask permission to remove content 🤨. Not really the way a forum should work.

I really hope this thread doesn't give them ideas...

I still can’t get over them pitching it as ‘squeaky bum time’. At a time when so many people were being made redundant or furloughed, it was massively misjudged. Nothing about why users would want premium, and everything about why they needed the money. Somehow I’m still not expecting to spot Justine Roberts in the queue in Primark or sorting through the yellow sticker basket in the supermarket.

MN still tries to pitch itself as a friendly little community run for the benefit of mums, because they just want to help. Every major ad campaign, or tie-up with the likes of the Mail, tells a very different story.

It’s one of the crappier offers out there. Definitely not worth it.

And the most beneficial thing I could do is spend less time on here, not more.

I have to say since they launched it last year I've been incredibly curious as to how they thought the pricing was in any way comparable to any of the other subscription services available.

I'm very intrigued why they felt it a fair amount and that it's never seemed to concern them that the price point was so high for ao little in return.

Of be happier to support a paid version if there was a more coherent approach to deletions both in terms of individual posts and threads.

I don’t support the current approach so I won’t pay for it.

This puts me off, too. I don't think the benefits are objectively worth the money but I might consider it just to be supportive. But yes. I know this is one of those thorny issues that never pleases everyone, but still, it puts me off.
BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 13/01/2021 16:38

I'll save the money for something else then Grin

I just paid it to support the independence of the site and reduce the potential for advertiser pressure on content.

^

But just by using it you are supporting the independence?

BettyAndVeronica · 13/01/2021 16:53

As much as I enjoy MN I'm not tempted and don't think I would pay if it was mandatory. Probably move over to another forum. I think they must make a fair bit from the advertisements, we're quite a large audience now.

ukmail · 13/01/2021 16:56

@Princesspickle777

I’ve signed up to pay monthly for premium due to the fact that they’ve said premium members get first dibs at product tests which I enjoy doing. I see no other benefit to premium at all. IMO it’s not worth it.
Have you done some product tests?
Osirus · 13/01/2021 17:08

There’s nothing to tempt me to pay. I wouldn’t knock anyone who wanted to though, if they feel like they want to support a site they get a lot of use out of in that way.

Osirus · 13/01/2021 17:09

We all place different value on things.

Completely agree. The lack of consistency drives me mad.
praepondero · 13/01/2021 17:11

Does it exclude the threads by cognitively challenged?
[Sorry, getting frustrated by the sheer volume of banal, idiotic threads/posts].

Princesspickle777 · 13/01/2021 20:25

Yes I’ve done several over the years and wish to continue.

MarshaBradyo · 13/01/2021 20:28

That vote is fairly conclusive
