AIBU to sleep with my teddy?

My partner has started to make me feel a little bad about sleeping with a teddy every night as I'm 29!

I think it stems from attachment issues with my dd. Up until March this year I co slept with her on and off. She is now 9 and I decided that it cant go on any longer so she now needs to alone in her bed.

AIBU - no i shouldn't be sleeping with a teddy at 29 im far to old
AINBU - sleeping with your teddy is acceptable at any age

I'm 39 and I still sleep with a large cuddly dog. I don't have any attachment issues or anything, I just like having something soft and squishy under my arm, habit I guess, if he's not there its like I don't know what to do with my arms! My mother has despaired of me for a long time now, I can't imagine for the life of me how it negatively impacts on her life that I sleep with a cuddly toy!

HorseGallopingOnATomato · 12/01/2021 00:30

Also late 20s and I do too!

ElizaLaLa · 12/01/2021 00:34

Each to their own. If you want to, it's no one else's business but yours.

AngeloMysterioso · 12/01/2021 00:38

I still sleep with my bear and I’m 35.

Indecisive12 · 12/01/2021 00:39

My son bought me a teddy for my birthday because he loves them so I sleep with that now. Hadn’t slept with one for 20 years before that though

My partner bought a cuddly Narwhal for Christmas to replace my cuddly rabbit, it's just the right shape to have under my arm. He (my partner) seemed a little put out when I kicked the narwhal out of bed when DP stated over on Saturday night. I reminded him I had something else to cuddle then.

I'm in my fifties and I have my childhood toy elephant 'asleep' on my bed Smile

MissMarpleDarling · 12/01/2021 01:06

In my 30s and have a square of silk from my childhood cuddle blanket that lives in my dressing gown pocket that I can fiddle with every evening. Calms me down, don't know why. Would never admit that in real life! I hide it from my partner, I'd never get it put my pocket infront of him 😂😂 YANBU

MissMarpleDarling · 12/01/2021 01:07

I might get a teddy and sew my square to it 😂

MissMarpleDarling · 12/01/2021 01:08

Out my pocket **

My DP and I have a colony of stuffed toys that live between our pillows they get moved onto a cushion on the floor when we have sex . Some are his, some are mine. We are both early 30s.

It doesn't really matter what anyone else does though - it sounds like your DP is being a prick to make you feel bad about it.

Staffy1 · 12/01/2021 01:13

Yanbu. Your partner has teddy envy.

MrsEricBana · 12/01/2021 01:13

Of course it's ok! (Fondly pats cuddly dog while real dog snores happily in his bed beside mine 😊)

Dddccc · 12/01/2021 01:18

I swapped my teddy for an extra pillow so not as weird anymore

Adarajames · 12/01/2021 02:46

I have the bunny that’s been in my bed almost every night for last 44+ years in bed beside me now, can’t sleep without her after so many years

MrMeSeeks · 12/01/2021 03:10

Yanbu

Montii · 12/01/2021 03:13

I (31) have a dog teddy that I cuddle every night, feels weird not sleeping with something in my arms.

My husband (32) sleeps cuddling a pillow...

YANBU

Time40 · 12/01/2021 03:19

I can't vote, because I think YABU if you want the teddy in bed with you if your partner is there too, but YANBU if you want teddy in bed with you if you are on your own in the bed.

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/01/2021 03:22

I'm 43 and I sleep with my Teddy, who is actually a monkey every night.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 12/01/2021 03:26

Yes it's weird. Why would a grown adult need a soft toy in their bed.

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/01/2021 03:36

I also have three cats in my bed, actual ones not teddies!

EreLongDoneDoDoesDid · 12/01/2021 03:50

I’ve got a toy cat that my Dad brought me on the day I was born. It doesn’t sleep in bed with me but it’s always on my shelf next to the bed and has been since I left home at 18, wherever I’ve lived.

Nat6999 · 12/01/2021 03:59

I sleep with my Teddy that my grandparents bought me when I was born. He has been with me for every life event, when I was on traction for 6 months as a baby, when my dear auntie passed away, the loss of my grandparents, my dad & my partner. He is threadbare or as I say well loved, is on all my childhood holiday snaps, was at my brother's christening, has dried my tears, listened to me without judging or interrupting.

Remaker · 12/01/2021 04:02

I never slept with a teddy as a child and when I went away to Uni one of my new friends was horrified that I had been deprived so she bought me one for my birthday when I was 19 and I still sleep with him now nearly 35 years later! The only time he had to go was when I had small babies I used to have these vivid dreams that I had accidentally fallen asleep with the baby and suffocated it under the covers. But once they were big enough he came back in with me. Sometimes it gets a little crowded with me, teddy, DH and 2 cats but we make it work. My husband doesn’t mind in the slightest and he can’t sleep while being cuddled so it works for him too!

Aria2015 · 12/01/2021 04:06

@Devillishlypicklypickles I'm exactly the same! I'm 39 and I sleep with a large cuddly whale for the same reason. The cuddly toy has changed over the years, I'm not attached to a specific toy, it's the sensation of having something under my arm that I like. Anyway op, YANBU because that would make me unreasonable lol!
