AIBU to sleep with my teddy?

My partner has started to make me feel a little bad about sleeping with a teddy every night as I'm 29!

I think it stems from attachment issues with my dd. Up until March this year I co slept with her on and off. She is now 9 and I decided that it cant go on any longer so she now needs to alone in her bed.

AIBU - no i shouldn't be sleeping with a teddy at 29 im far to old
AINBU - sleeping with your teddy is acceptable at any age

I sleep with a plush avocado 🥑

AmberItsACertainty · 12/01/2021 06:16

I had to buy my DP a teddy because he kept stealing mine and when I came to bed and tried to steal it back he'd half wake up and cuddle it tighter so I couldn't have it. Quite nice to see we're not alone, I'd assumed we were freaks Grin

Teddy’s are for life. I’m over 50 with a large size Gund bear. He will need retirement soon but if you get comfort and calmness heck yes. The big shame at the moment is you have to buy online now and I prefer to find a nee friend in a shop so I can hug it first.

cinnabarmoth · 12/01/2021 07:45

I sleep with my cuddly octopus and I am 47. I have had it about 2 years and never used to sleep with a cuddly toy before that. I can sleep without him but he is very comforting. My DP sleeps separately to me atm so it makes the bed feel less empty

RickJames · 12/01/2021 07:53

I have a Hello Kitty. It just feels better to hug something when I sleep. YANBU

MangoBiscuit · 12/01/2021 07:57

Hell no YANBU! I also have a cuddly toy to sleep with, a beluga whale. She's just the right size to hold my arms in the right place when I sleep on my side, so I don't strain my shoulders or upper back when I inevitably curl up into the foetal position. I sleep much better with her, and she's really comforting. My DP thinks it's sweet, and always fetches her for me if I don't get there first.

Ive had a bear since I was born - mid 20s now and it come everywhere with me including the hospital when I gave birth to DS.

He is falling apart from, Ive hand washed him a few times because I'm scared if I put him in the wash his stuffing will come out of the hole in his neck!

TomRipley · 12/01/2021 08:11

I still sleep with a 'blanky'. I won't tell you what I call it.
I'm late 30's with 3 kids. One of my kids likes it and often takes it to bed with them and I go and steal it back when they're asleep.

RoxytheRexy · 12/01/2021 08:23

I have a Care Bear that sleeps with me every night. I introduced him to my husband the first time he stayed over. If he didn’t like my bear then he wasn’t a keeper

notanothertakeaway · 12/01/2021 08:36

I'm surprised so many of you admit to sleeping with soft toys. Seems weird to me

vanillandhoney · 12/01/2021 08:40

Yep, I sleep with a stuffed bear every night - I'm 32. DH doesn't have a stuffed animal but will sulk if the dog doesn't want his nightly snuggle Grin

Janaih · 12/01/2021 08:44

There are so many adults with sleep issues, some of them would probably benefit from having a soft toy in bed. Can't sleep without mine. Dh has never made any negative comments, other than the odd eye roll that it takes up suitcase room.

movingonup20 · 12/01/2021 08:44

When I first stayed at my dp's, he had his teddy on the bed which amazed me - teddy did get moved permanently when I accidentally moved in (he came down with covid on the day of lockdown 1, I then got it and I planned to stay until the restrictions eased but at that point we decided to make it permanent!)

ImagineWords · 12/01/2021 08:45

In all honestly I sleep with a piece of fabric too, I call it my rag 😂 and I go nuts if I don't have it. I'm 25 and I've done it from child hood, I'm not ashamed to say it's my comfort. My first partner (now my ex) always put me down for having it but I'd still sneak it into bed. My second partner that I've been with nearly 4 years, it never bothered him and if I loose it he always helps me find it. I don't think there's anything weird, everyone has something that comforts them

heidbuttsupper · 12/01/2021 08:49

I'm 36 and sleep with a teddy (a giant pig actually!) its comforting

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 12/01/2021 08:51

I don't sleep with a cuddly toy but I have a collection of stuffed animals from my childhood that, under absolutely NO circumstances, could I let go.
Just because we're adults doesn't mean we can't seek comfort in our cuddly toys!

DaphneBridgerton · 12/01/2021 08:57

I sleep with my soft toy bunny that DH bought me when I wasn't very well a few years ago. Not every night, but definitely when I am ill or tired or upset. My sister has a (quite large - wouldn't even fit in a large handbag) cuddly toy that she still takes on holiday with her at 31!! Each to their own. YANBU

unicornpower · 12/01/2021 09:01

I'm 32 and i sleep with my childhood teddy, he's falling to pieces but i find it really comforting and if i'm anxious i'll fiddle with his ears or arms. I don't take him on holiday anymore abroad but thats through fear of losing him! I struggle to sleep without him and I don't see me giving him up. You arent strange OP, perfectly normal i'd say!

AvoidingNextdoorNeighbour · 12/01/2021 09:33

When I found out my dad was dying, my old teddy found its way back out of a bag on top of the wardrobe. I'd taken it out to send dad a silly pic but when it came time to put the toy back, I kept leaving it. I went to bed and my hand naturally reached for it and every time I moved during the night, I realised I automatically pulled it close and I do believe I got a sort of childish comfort from it. I'm 39. Dad died in November and the teddy sits beside the bed but if I feel sad, I will be grabbing him.

DH thinks I'm mad and admittedly my teddy does have a very mean, angry looking face (I tell DH teddy is just a very serious chap) so I will often find him mysteriously faced away from DH...

Decisiontomake · 12/01/2021 21:54

Thank you all. Glad im not the only one. He does end up on the floor most nights but as I go to bed way before my partner its nice to have something to cuddle. I also don't take him on holidays or nights away just when at home.
Would cuddle the dog but he's not allowed in the bedroom!
