This is my first baby I’m currently 16 weeks + 2 days pregnant Smile I’m eager and waiting for these movements to happen

I was wondering when did you feel your first baby’s movements and could you please explain what they felt like? Grin

It felt like a butterfly was inside me.

FTM24 · 08/01/2021 16:13

19 weeks, an it sort of felt like gas/bubbling Grin

PerditaMacleod · 08/01/2021 16:14

Like a bubble popping. About 16/17 weeks I think

unmarkedbythat · 08/01/2021 16:15

Like a bubble popping

With ds1 it was around 16 weeks. Earlier with ds2. No idea with ds3!

Tumblebugsjump · 08/01/2021 16:16

Bubbles, a rumbling stomach, gas!

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 08/01/2021 16:16

I thought it was like a goldfish swimming.

CallmeNessa · 08/01/2021 16:16

I'd say a tiny fluttering sensation- so faint you think you've imagined it and it's just your tummy rumbling or a little muscle flutter! Then it gets stronger and by the end it's like a small human is pushing all their limbs in all directions - because they are!

Crappyfridays7 · 08/01/2021 16:17

Fluttering, you don’t recognise it early with the first one though takes a while to realise that is what the funny feeling is. Then you get kicks etc as they get bigger you can feel hiccups and rolls and I used to watch my tummy move in the bath.

Babies 2,3 &4 I felt much earlier as I knew what to expect but it’s a lovely feeling.

nbee84 · 08/01/2021 16:18

Mine was like someone lightly tracing their fingertip across my belly, but from the inside.

This ^

Also, then you're very pregnant, (7 months plus,) if you are lying in the bath, you can see the limbs moving about/elbow moving under your skin!

Fascinating, but a little bit like a horror film! Grin

If you were holding a tiny bird in your cupped hands, and could feel its wings fluttering, it is like that, but inside you! Years ago they used to call it "quickening" which also explains a little how it feels.

Youseethethingis · 08/01/2021 16:27

Tickles Smile

Redcrayons · 08/01/2021 16:31

Like someone tickling you inside your stomach.

Ends with feeling like someone is stamping on your bladder whilst head butting you in the ribs. A lot.

This is such a beautiful way of describing it - and so true! I'm at the stage of full on kicks and stomps now, which I weirdly love, but those early bird's wings flutters were so magical!
JemimaTiggywinkle · 08/01/2021 16:34

I didn’t feel it until after 20 weeks, so try not to worry if it takes a while.
At first it’s so gentle you think you’ve imagined it. I found it easier to feel movements when I was lying on my back, with my hands on my stomach.

willowmelangell · 08/01/2021 16:46

Butterfly wings.
Lay on your back and smooth your tummy saying 'hello baby, mummy loves you etc''. Keep doing this reguarly. As you get bigger, baby will kick back in response.
My dsis did not believe this. She was awed when I showed her. Soothing moves, soothing voice and then a kick, elbow or knee popping up on my bump. It is really magical.
If you watch a soap ie Eastenders, Neighbours and settle down, relaxed and happy, to watch, you may well feel a bump/kick when the theme tune comes on. Later on when baby cries, you will find singing the them tune might stop them crying while you rock them.
CONGRATULATIONS!

SunshineLollipopsRainbow · 08/01/2021 18:16

When you go over over a big hill in the car and your stomach rolls, a bit like that I thought lol

Laiste · 08/01/2021 18:26

There are certain little feelings which you get when you are not pregnant which feel EXACTLY like first baby kicks :)

I think it's wind shifting about slightly.

After 4 kids i don't want any more and when i feel that certain sensation i think 'ahhhhh, how sweet, that feels exactly like .... hang on ... it better bloody not be!!' Hmm

elsaesmeralda · 08/01/2021 19:31

Like a bubble popping I thought
Then when you're really pregnant and an elbow sticks out it's like 😯

Maray1967 · 08/01/2021 19:46

Like a butterfly inside you. About 18-19 weeks with DC1 and 17 weeks with DC2. Fabulous.
Many congratulations.

Thack · 08/01/2021 19:49

I wasn't sure about any flutters. I had constipation and was drinking prune juice so wasn't sure if it was wind or baby!

The first kicks that I was sure of were like little spasms, they didn't feel alarming.
FTM, I noticed around 18-19 weeks.

Enjoy!

MakeItRain · 08/01/2021 19:52

For me, the very first movements felt like slow bubbles popping in a thick liquid, if that makes sense. They gradually became little flutters. Then later you get the kicks and the pokes and the hiccup jumps!

RUOKHon · 08/01/2021 19:53

Like popcorn popping.
