YABU ... They should
YANBU ... They shouldn't

For context DD14 has spent 7 of the possible 12 weeks in school so far due to burst bubbles etc. So has had 7 of a possible 12 practical lessons (construction/engineering).

The school bus which we pay £80 pm for is not running due to lockdown.

She is expected at school for her exam at 8.30 on Monday morning, I do not drive school is 19.78 miles away so will cost around £75 in a taxi for her to sit an exam which she can't possibly have all the knowledge to do well in!!!

Can she apply for mitigating circumstances for a resit?

rabbitheadlights · 05/01/2021 23:51

Apparently not @Yesmate ... According to school her mitigating circumstances are not mitigating enough.

Have your school as of after 7pm this evening said it is going ahead? DfE have said it’s up to schools whether they choose to press on with them or not. Of course they’ve given absolutely no guidance as to what either decision might mean for the pupils. It’s an utter joke. As for whether they should be cancelled I don’t know. DD was absolutely shafted with the CAG’s for GCSE and without knowing what the alternative to sitting the exams is I don’t know if it’s preferable or not 😔

rabbitheadlights · 05/01/2021 23:53

We received an email at 6pm I spoke to head of yr10 at 7.30

Bloody nightmare, dd1 studies her btec through collab with another college, she's the only one taking the exam at her college, I can see her being the only student in the building, sitting in a room with the invigilator. Emailing exam officer tomorrow to see what arrangements are!

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 00:02

My ds due to sit exam in feb , I have emailed school to ask if this is going ahead , btech seem to of just been forgotten about

marshmallowfluffy · 06/01/2021 00:57

They did a U-turn this evening

It's up to schools if BTECs go ahead.

rabbitheadlights · 06/01/2021 08:50

I know @marshmallowfluffy DD's school is going ahead

Good luck to your DD today OP

monkeysox · 06/01/2021 10:03

They've handbrake turned and cancelled them.

WankPuffins · 06/01/2021 10:05

My Ds was supposed to sit a btec exam Friday.

It was cancelled yesterday afternoon.

I would have been in the same situation as you - college is a 45 min drive away and the college transport isn't on. Public transport would have taken over 2 hours each way with loads of changes. Taxi horrendous.

rabbitheadlights · 06/01/2021 10:16

@monkeysox they haven't

DD’s school appear to still be going ahead, judging by the live revision session I can hear being delivered in DD’s bedroom. In a way I’m glad, this means it’s down to her.

crankysaurus · 06/01/2021 11:12

DS's exam is still going ahead tomorrow morning, to our knowledge. Whether he attends it is another matter, his mental health is pretty shot.

crankysaurus · 06/01/2021 11:13

The government have been cowards not to make a decision on this but to delegate it to schools. I hope resists or teacher assessments are available for those who can't attend.

rabbitheadlights · 06/01/2021 12:02

I actually hav no issue with them going ahead and even with paying for taxis, my issue is with the act that each school will have had different amounts of teaching as I said upthread DD has missed 40% of the classes due to bubbles bursting so how much is it actually possible that it's a level playing field?????

We’ve just had an email from the school, ds1s Btech Construction exam now not going ahead. To be fair, he is not in the right headspace for an exam right now. God, I feel for our year 11s and 13s (aswell as last years)

TheChippendenSpook · 06/01/2021 13:25

My son is in the middle of one now. His tutors were trying to clarify last night (until at least midnight) if it was still going ahead today. Unfortunately it did so they've got a few tired teenagers who won't be working at their best today.

Directionerforever · 06/01/2021 13:31

We’ve just had word from DD’s school that they are attempting to get clarification from the exam boards and they will let us know what the score is.

rabbitheadlights · 06/01/2021 13:44

I have spoken again today with the school's exams officer who has confirmed ours to be going ahead. I could cry for DD the disparity is going to be very real.

@Betty000 also this years yr 10s who will no doubt have another year of non existent learning, be made to sit exams for which they have no knowledge base and will probably be expected to sit GCSEs as normal in 2022

So so sad for them, this year should be full of excitement for the future not this

WankPuffins · 06/01/2021 14:20

@rabbitheadlights my son has had four days of face to face teaching since March.

In September he was due to go in one day a week, 4 days from home.

But what with teachers isolating, bubbles bursting, him coming down with a D&V bug...... he's been in for 4 days.

He's doing okay. The online lessons have been patchy. But he would have done better face to face.

The really sad thing is we moved across the country in feb last year. He was at college for three weeks before the first lockdown so he's not made any friends.

rabbitheadlights · 06/01/2021 14:25

@wankpuffins how is he managing? Does he have any outlet?, DD doesn't really have any friends she was bullied terribly last yr and then lockdown .. she spends a lot of time outside of inline learning on Roblox.. It's so hard for them!
