How long is reasonable to be bloody banging for?!

Stopppppppp · 03/01/2021 10:33

I suspect I am being unreasonable, I totally get it's the day time and noise is to be expected sometimes but oh my god I'm losing my mind.

I am so poorly at the moment (not Covid but suspect getting over the tail end of the flu) and j can't get any proper rest at all because of my neighbours.

I don't know what the hell they are doing but all day for the past 4 days has been CONSTANT and I mean CONSTANT bang bang bang bang on the walls. Literally it will start at 8am and go on until 7pm. It doesn't even sound like normal work, it's like someone is tapping a picture in the wall with a hammer....ALL DAY.

I am so fed up of it now 😖

I don't know whether to say anything because I get it's not their problem I'm ill and need to rest and it's the daytime so really when else can they do whatever it is they are doing but my god I am so tired, I just want to sleep. I can cope with general neighbour noise but this is like someone is the next room from me just banging on the walls, it doesn't seem to matter which room of my house I'm in!

Try some earplugs ? They aren’t breaking any rules but maybe if you spoke to them
You’d know when work is likely to be finished

Randomrebel · 03/01/2021 22:08

Ours have been at it building an extension since early July (i am trying to work from home some days the noise is dreadful). They still aren’t finished and it can go on 6 days a week!!!

Lockheart · 03/01/2021 22:10

If it's the same noise for the same time every day are you sure it's the neighbours and not pipes (yours or theirs), for example?

Most people don't consistently make the same noise constantly for the same hours every day. That would be some bloody weird building work.

Glitteryone · 03/01/2021 22:10

I thought this was about a completely different type of banging

NiceGerbil · 03/01/2021 22:18

Yes I thought it was shagging as well Grin

AndcalloffChristmas · 03/01/2021 22:20

Earplugs? Move to a different room if there is one? Have a friendly chat and see how long the work is planned for?

Calmandmeasured1 · 03/01/2021 22:20

Constant banging on the walls all day for four days? Are you sure that is what it is only I just can't imagine what kind of work would be done on walls that would be constant. Are they knocking a wall down?

You need to go round and ask them what they are doing and how long it will take.

UsernameSaved · 03/01/2021 22:28

Pipes?
Heating?

DishingOutDone · 03/01/2021 22:31

You say you don't know what they are doing, so you have no idea if the noise is from DIY or building work? What is it isn't? Why on earth don't you ask them?!

littlepattilou · 03/01/2021 22:32

FFS, why do people always come up with 'EARPLUGS' ???

Why the F should anyone be shoving earplugs in, (and in turn not be able to hear anything else,) because some inconsiderate arsehole is banging and knocking for hours and hours, with no thought for anyone else?

Like fuck would I put EARPLUGS in. I would go round and tell the offending git to SHUT UP, or I would report to the council.

That amount of noise that @Stopppppppp refers to is taking the piss.

Cherrysoup · 03/01/2021 22:38

Are you able go round (in dressing gown of doom, obviously) and ask when the banging will stop? I feel really sorry for you, it sounds like torture. 😢

ViceVersa · 03/01/2021 22:46

I feel for you. My NDN has been doing noisy DIY since the start of the first lockdown in March...I genuinely don’t understand what more there can be to do as it is nearly every day for at least a couple of hours at no set time to the day.

After 8pm he’s more considerate and likes to knock nails into the adjoining wall of my bedroom. (Or so it sounds) Just two or three knocks in total 5 minutes apart but it’s nearly every.single.night! Confused It gives me anxiety waiting for it to start.

AcornAutumn · 03/01/2021 22:47

So glad it wasn't just me! 😂
AcornAutumn · 03/01/2021 22:49

I would definitely speak to them. They might be able to agree times or something. I'd be wanting to know what it is as well.

Nunoftheother · 03/01/2021 22:51

Sympathies - this would drive me insane even if I wasn't ill. YANBU.

From what OP describes, it may well not be DIY and could be the heating or pipes in the walls. Very strange DIY if it is.

It's best to establish the facts before you go around shouting the odds and threatening to call the council.

june2007 · 03/01/2021 22:58

How about going round and asking what the noise might be, if it,s pipes they may not be aware. Since it,s during the day I don,t see it as unreasonabel.

Theirongiantess · 03/01/2021 22:58

Earplugs can’t be worn by everyone. If I wear them I get ringing in my ears for days following

littlepattilou · 03/01/2021 23:01

@Lockheart

In your opinion.

Anyone who is enough of a twat to bang and knock about for FOUR DAYS in a row, for ELEVEN hours a day, is not someone I would even consider trying to reason with.

So I would report to the council. You do what you like, and I reserve the right to do what I like.

For ELEVEN hours a day?

THAT is not unreasonable?

FFS.

And how do you know they're banging about and it's not e.g. the pipes?

Get the facts straight before you start accusing someone of something.

This wasn't the type of banging I was expecting disappointed

isitspringyet · 03/01/2021 23:11

Gone are the days when neighbours would come and inform you politely and apologise for making noise and disruption.. people are so selfish

Nope. I'll be reporting it to the council.

And if it's noisy PIPES, it wouldn't conveniently stop for 13 hours of the day. Don't be so naive, and quit trying to talk down to me and tell me what to do. Who do you think you are?
