Ok, could you help me settle a discussion with some friends?

Have a look at your left hand: which is longer - your ring finger, or your index finger?

Apparently a longer ring finger suggests higher exposure to testosterone in the womb, and there are various personality traits that go with this, including (apparently) predisposition to polyamory, being good at Maths, and being more likely to be gay or bisexual.

I’ll go: slightly longer ring finger, not interested in polyamory, crap at Maths, bi. Anyone else?

Longer index finger

FallenSky · 02/01/2021 17:04

Longer ring finger, not interested in polyamory, very bad at maths, very straight.

Plonque · 02/01/2021 17:04

Identical, ring finger might edge it but only by a mm or two, max.

Bunnybigears · 02/01/2021 17:06

Longer ring finger no to polyamory, awful at maths, straight.

goose1964 · 02/01/2021 17:06

Mine are the same. I am good at maths.

Plonque · 02/01/2021 17:06

I'm crap at maths, far better in English and practical subjects. And I'm fairly sure I'm not gay.

Swingometer · 02/01/2021 17:07

My index finger is longer than ring finger

I'm good at maths but have no interest in polyamory and I'm heterosexual

NuniaBeeswax · 02/01/2021 17:08

Longer ring finger and no lol

ErrolTheDragon · 02/01/2021 17:09

Longer ring finger.
Good at maths, entirely monogamous and heterosexual.

happy97 · 02/01/2021 17:10

@Swingometer

My index finger is longer than ring finger

I'm good at maths but have no interest in polyamory and I'm heterosexual

Exactly the same here!
BikeRunSki · 02/01/2021 17:16

Longer ring finger on both hands. I’m not bad at maths, but none of the other things apply.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 02/01/2021 17:19

My ring finger is much shorter, to the extent that someone actually noticed and commented on it (a good while back).

In relation to the traits above:

  • I guess you could say that I'm polyamorous. I'm just a bit of a commitment phobe really Blush

  • I'm very good at Maths

  • I'm completely straight - but people often assume that I'm a lesbian

Merryoldgoat · 02/01/2021 17:20

Longer ring finger.

Polyamory - no

Maths - yes (studied it at uni but dropped out)

Straight

pinbinpin · 02/01/2021 17:22

Slightly longer ring finger on both hands. I was definitely better at English and Science at school but not terrible at Maths, got Bs. Hetero and zero interest in polyamory, in fact it would be carnage, as I am quite a jealous person and like to be the centre of someone's attention.

Iamthewombat · 02/01/2021 17:25

Apparently a longer ring finger suggests higher exposure to testosterone in the womb, and there are various personality traits that go with this, including (apparently) predisposition to polyamory, being good at Maths, and being more likely to be gay or bisexual.

Is there any scientific data backing this up? Or is it just a fun conversation with friends? I am intrigued.

Bloodybridget · 02/01/2021 17:26

Ring finger v slightly longer. Lesbian, bad at maths, monogamous (but wasn't always).

BashfulClam · 02/01/2021 17:27

Longer ring finger, awful at maths, straight and would never go for polyamory.

Butchyrestingface · 02/01/2021 17:30

Ring finger on both hands LONGER

Crap at maths, not gay or bisexual, can't even seem to attract ONE bloke never mind several. Sad

CrapDogOwner · 02/01/2021 17:31

Longer ring finger, fucking awesome at maths, straight as a die, not in the slightest bit interested in polyamory.

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 02/01/2021 17:32

Index is a few mm longer

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 02/01/2021 17:33

Forgot to say, shit at maths, bi curious and no interest in having more than one partner ... one is too much hassle Grin

1lbperweek · 02/01/2021 17:33

On my left it’s my index that’s longer but on my right it’s my ring finger. Is that normal? Shock

Greenandcabbagelooking · 02/01/2021 17:34

Longer ring finger.

No to polyamory, good at maths, not gay.

Having a longer ring finger also means you are more likely to be good at sport. The Communist bloc tried using it as a screening tool for finding good athletes. I am not good at sport.

SherbertSaucers · 02/01/2021 17:34

@Iamthewombat it was jokey conversation, and then a friend found an article about it: www.cosmopolitan.com/health-fitness/a6573529/things-your-finger-length-could-say-about-your-personality/ (in Cosmo, that well-known source of scientific theory...)

My ring finger is quite a bit longer than my index finger (a nail length). I'm good at Maths, other traits don't apply.
