Ok, could you help me settle a discussion with some friends?

Have a look at your left hand: which is longer - your ring finger, or your index finger?

Apparently a longer ring finger suggests higher exposure to testosterone in the womb, and there are various personality traits that go with this, including (apparently) predisposition to polyamory, being good at Maths, and being more likely to be gay or bisexual.

I’ll go: slightly longer ring finger, not interested in polyamory, crap at Maths, bi. Anyone else?

Much longer ring finger and I have stacks of testosterone according to by HRT dr

VestaTilley · 02/01/2021 19:36

Index finger longer by a fair bit.

Straight, bad at maths.

quilbertandgullivan · 02/01/2021 19:37

Longer ring finger
Good at maths
Religious so polyamory not really an option but I reckon I'd be game if it was.
I think I'm towards the straight end of the spectrum but not right at the end.
I also have PCOS and am of an extremely muscular build - does that connect with the testosterone thing?

ZipLips · 02/01/2021 19:42

I have a much longer ring finger.

Hetero, monogamous, & with DH for 20+ years.

I have no particular talent with maths & was delighted to be able to drop it at school after GCSE.

lcdododo · 02/01/2021 19:43

Much longer index finger

Good at maths
Thought about polyamory
Bisexual

OloBo · 02/01/2021 19:48

About the same. Good at maths. Straight. Monogamous.

Janegrey333 · 02/01/2021 19:50

Ring finger.

Janegrey333 · 02/01/2021 19:52

@FallenSky

Longer ring finger, not interested in polyamory, very bad at maths, very straight.
Me too.
Russellbrandshair · 02/01/2021 19:53

Longer ring finger- I’m straight, shit at maths and polyamory?! I don’t even like to share my pen!

Sandsnake · 02/01/2021 19:56

I’ve heard this before. For me it’s no to polyamory, yes to numeracy (although less so more pure maths) and I’m not gay, although can find myself sometimes attracted to women and have definitely been mistaken for a lesbian. I have lots of other more masculine associated traits though and certainly would have been described as a ‘tomboy’.

SimonJT · 02/01/2021 20:12

Some of the male ones match me, others don’t.

My ring finger is longer than my index finger.

Things that match
Lack inhibitions (ADHD)
Musical
Left handed
Good at sports/physical activity (rugby player)
Fast sprinter
More symmetrical face

Things that don’t match
Aggression
Promiscuity/lack of monogamy (I have never had casual sex)
Gay
Introvert

hansgrueber · 02/01/2021 20:20

Longer ring finger, married for 52 years, Maths teacher, had to google polyamory, sounds fun!

Quornflakegirl · 02/01/2021 20:25

My ring finger is longer and false to all three.

I just checked my twin girls who were obviously exposed to the same hormones in utero and one has a longer ring finger and the other hasn't so not sure on the credibility of that one.

Moonbabyskalimba · 02/01/2021 20:30

Longer ring finger. OK at maths but not brilliant, straight, definitely not polyamorous.

TurquoiseDragon · 02/01/2021 20:45

Longer ring finger.

Good at maths, bi, and no idea about polyamory.

Tomatobear · 02/01/2021 20:57

Longer ring finger. Definitely a bit stereotypically man-ish! (Although love a bit of sewing!)

Would be open to polyamory, pretty good at math, secretly only about 80% straight Blush

Tomatobear · 02/01/2021 20:59

Just to clarify- I definitely don't look man-ish- it's the personality.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 02/01/2021 21:00

My ring fingers are long than index finger.
Rubbish at Maths
Big No to polyamory
Not in the least bit gay
No good at team sports, OK with showjumping as a teen. Pretty unfit nowdays.

HavelockVetinari · 02/01/2021 21:04

Slightly shorter ring finger. Not interested in polyamory (I'm Catholic), I'm ace at maths, am bisexual but happily married to a man.

HowManyToes · 03/01/2021 07:42

I’m a weirdo - on both hands my index finger is longer than my ring AND middle finger. It freaks the kids at school out when I show them.

And I’m a maths teacher so I’m shit hot at maths 🤓

CrotchBurn · 03/01/2021 07:53

WOAH! I have a longer index finger on my left hand but a linger ring finger on my right hand?!

Also it feels more uncomfortable for me to turn my right hand down to examine it.

I'm right handed...

Aprilx · 03/01/2021 08:03

Marginally longer ring finger on left hand, although index finger is longer on right.

I have a maths degree, I am heterosexual and have always been monogamous.

suggestionsplease1 · 03/01/2021 08:18

Heh I fit the data on this one. Ring finger good bit longer, good at maths, lesbian, high sex drive but not poly.

Also a female twin with male twin brother and there is good evidence that female twins in these circumstances have higher exposure to testosterone in utero and are more likely to have traits similar to those mentioned.

But it's just increased likelihoods over a population level, can't really tell you anything at the individual level. Everyone's different.
