To love takeaways?

I’m a good cook and enjoy cooking, but I still can’t help but absolutely love takeaways. Chinese, Indian etc. I live in a city which has all sorts of cuisines and good restaurants so it’s never hard to find something tasty or new. Thing is, takeaways do nothing for my waistline or bank balance so I really need to get out of the habit.

I love the ease - I.e. just a few clicks on an app and it’s delivered - and also the taste as well. Aibu to think that, despite my best efforts, things do just taste better when someone else cooks for you?!

Please, someone say something to put me off them! I can cook ‘fakeaways’ but the appeal just isn’t the same. Doesn’t help that I’m lazy by nature I guess.

I'd love to reply but I'm off to warm the plates for our takeaway which is en route Grin

I do too. We have amazing restaurants near me which do so many cuisines. My yearly roundup from deliveroo said I ordered from 13 cuisines!

I can cook and I do enjoy it but life is tiring at the moment and full on with a toddler and a few issues so sometimes it's so nice to just spend 1 min ordering and it arrives and no washing up!

Sorry I'm not helping!! But maybe limit yourself to 3 per month and gradually cut down? Could you take the money you spend out in cash and put in a jar you can see, makes it more impactful I think!

It tastes better! But nkt because someone else cooks it for you. Most of us don't have deep friers like taht nor do we often use the amount of oil and spices when cooking home. It's lush

DianaOfTheLakes · 30/12/2020 18:49

YANBU

We have some great ones locally and alternate between them.

They taste great because of the salt, sugar and fat professional chefs put in dishes... Friend of mine is a professional chef and that's what she says.

Shamoo · 30/12/2020 19:03

I’m with you OP. Trying to buy less at the moment, for a number of reasons, but I want a Chinese so so much 😂

ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule · 30/12/2020 19:06

Oh OP YANBU.

I love to cook, so does DH, but takeaway is just necessary sometimes. We get one around every payday, it's sort of a tradition Grin

Leobynature · 30/12/2020 19:08

How often are you getting them OP?

notanothertakeaway · 30/12/2020 19:08

I like a takeaway occasionally, if I'm not in the mood to cook. And I like that everyone can choose their preferred dish. But, TBH, I usually find the food a bit disappointing, and expensive

Mincepiehangover · 30/12/2020 19:10

I bloody love a pizza delivery on a Saturday night! Always have salad with it so feel like l am getting some of my 5 a day!

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/12/2020 19:13

I find them disappointing too.

BiscuitTea · 30/12/2020 19:17

Op, are you me?

I know how to cook and I know that I could cook myself food quicker than the takeaway takes to arrive and I know it's dear and I know it's not healthy.... but I love them!!!

Meowmeow20202 · 30/12/2020 19:20

Yep i love takeaways. Im proper common so eat with my hands so no plates to clean or forks lol.

WhenPidgeonsCry · 30/12/2020 19:22

You just reminded me of my dear mother who is the only person I've ever known to heat plates for a takeaway Grin

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/12/2020 19:29

I love takeaways too. Chinese is my favourite, but sadly I cannot find one anywhere near me, that makes my favourite dish - chicken and cashew nuts in yellow bean sauce. Plenty do chicken and cashew nuts, but in gravy, not yellow bean sauce.

PimlicoJo · 30/12/2020 19:29

I like them, but I'd much rather go to a restaurant. In non covid times I'd rarely have a takeaway.

HaveITheRightToHoldYou · 30/12/2020 19:32

things do just taste better when someone else cooks for you?!

They taste better be they are full of salt, fat, sugar, butter, cream......all the tasty stuff that you would use sparingly at home because you know they aren’t good for you.

Ticklemynickel · 30/12/2020 19:37

I love a takeaway. We're close to fantastic pizza place that does sourdough pizza and a brilliant Thai place that always delivers in about 20 minutes. Our last Indian was very disappointing though so probably need to try a new place. I'm hungry now....

S111n20 · 30/12/2020 19:40

Sorry really can’t help, I’m the same 🤭

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 30/12/2020 19:41

Nah, my cooking tastes better than any takeaway. I still get them occasionally when I fancy a night off, but they're never as good as my own food.

I missed this as I was collecting a dominos

It has to be yellow bean sauce doesn’t it! Our Chinese does it and we had one tonight. Bloody delicious and had salt and pepper chips as recommended on here. Yum!
HibernatingTill2030 · 30/12/2020 19:57

I always heat plates for a Chinese or Indian takeaway too!
Now I want a Chinese take away. Maybe tomorrow!

ivfbabymomma1 · 30/12/2020 19:59

I'm exactly the same! But I limit myself to 2 a month. For my wallet sake, and my waist!

Peanutbutteryogurt · 30/12/2020 20:02

I love takeaway, I love fried food, savoury junk food, I could eat it every week but it's expensive and I'm trying to lose weight. We don't have great variety around here but I'm happy with the basics tbh.

nicknamehelp · 30/12/2020 20:04

Just placed our order for tomorrow night! Last blow out before trying to be good again in!
