To love takeaways?

I’m a good cook and enjoy cooking, but I still can’t help but absolutely love takeaways. Chinese, Indian etc. I live in a city which has all sorts of cuisines and good restaurants so it’s never hard to find something tasty or new. Thing is, takeaways do nothing for my waistline or bank balance so I really need to get out of the habit.

I love the ease - I.e. just a few clicks on an app and it’s delivered - and also the taste as well. Aibu to think that, despite my best efforts, things do just taste better when someone else cooks for you?!

Please, someone say something to put me off them! I can cook ‘fakeaways’ but the appeal just isn’t the same. Doesn’t help that I’m lazy by nature I guess.

Oh yeah. 3 takeaways a week here. London - so MUCH good food

Had Franca Manca pizzas yesterday- were really good

Frannibananni · 30/12/2020 20:07

They taste better because of the amount of oil they tip in. They literally tip a ladle full of hot oil into the hot wok every time they cook a meal.

SonjaMorgan · 30/12/2020 20:19

I can cook takeaway style "Chinese" food. The amount of oil in fried rice would put some people off. I can't really put you off though, you pay for the convenience.

IdblowJonSnow · 30/12/2020 20:36

We try to stick to twice a month. Will be getting one tomo for NYE. Xmas Smile

NotStayingIn · 30/12/2020 20:40

Dare I ask how many you have?

Sitting here with my fingers crossed it's more than me, and then I can crack on guilt-free. Wink

Hoppinggreen · 30/12/2020 20:43

I like the idea but they are rarely as good as expected, even the “good ones”. Unfortunately if you are lucky enough to eat really good food then they can be disappointing.

Funkypolar · 30/12/2020 20:47

I’m having one a week at the moment. We have some really good Indian restaurants that are currently delivery only.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 30/12/2020 20:48

I bloody love a takeaway too!

During parts of the year I’m off at competitions for the sport I do, and I’m absolutely shattered by the time I get home so I always have a takeaway then. During the last 9 months I’ve also got takeaways a bit more often - maybe 3 or 4 times a month? Just to support local businesses, you understand...

I’m a decent cook and I could make some of it myself but there is just such bliss in rich food you didn’t have to prepare (or wash up after) yourself.

Tomorrow will be All The Pizza Grin

AndcalloffChristmas · 30/12/2020 20:51

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius it always astounds me that chicken and cashew in yellow bean sauce is often not included as it’s so lovely!

OP I also love a takeaway. I do try to be sparing. I love the comment “I love the ease” - I think most people most like that part!

lyinginthegutterstaringatstars · 30/12/2020 20:52

Yanbu I really love Indian take away. Haven't had one in years though. Really miss it.

BorderlineHappy · 30/12/2020 20:57

Dp and 1 often go out on the sly and have a 2 in 1 from the chinese .Only way we can eat in peace.

We are ordering takeaway tomorrow Though.

One last blow out before New Year.

ChickenNugget86 · 30/12/2020 23:35

I love take aways - indian, Chinese, pizza, dirty kebabs etc...always taste so good.

I always have one as a treat on a Friday or Saturday night but money is tight during covid so cut down.

During lockdown I've been learning how to cook Chinese meals for a hobby! There is a good YouTube channel called chin and choo who show takeaway secrets from the Chinese. I've been quite impressed with the noodle dishes I've cooked.

NaturesEnd · 30/12/2020 23:42

Kebabs and pizza are so awful round here and Chinese is very hit and miss, move Grin

Woodlandbelle · 30/12/2020 23:48

Havent had one in years - well one last year. No deliveries here and not much choice. I buy pizzas and batch cook curry. We do eat out though but can't now Sad
I miss living near good Takeaways

SycamoreGap · 30/12/2020 23:48

I’ve started to do my own curries using the kits from The Twisted Curry Company and The Spicery - they taste as good as take-aways - you can make a few changes to the recipes to reduce the fat / oil content.

Lampan · 30/12/2020 23:48

I LOVE a takeaway, I also live in a city where I can get pretty much whatever I fancy (which is almost always Chinese)
I did recently learn to make slow cooker butter chicken though, which is seriously good and maybe the only satisfactory ‘fakeaway’ I have discovered so far, especially as it freezes well so I can make a big batch and it’s there for when I’m feeling lazy.

HeyMister · 30/12/2020 23:51

I was saying the exact same thing to my husband earlier. Its so depressing lol.
I checked how much I spent on take aways this month and it was over £200 WTF! Good job I'm in a physical job or I'd have gained quite a bit of weight. Its probably not doing any good for my heart though.

I'm going to take my card off of JustEat & Deliveroo and uninstall the apps!!

HeyMister · 30/12/2020 23:52

0h & UberEats hahah

crossstitchingnana · 30/12/2020 23:54

I am the complete opposite. I look forward to a takeaway and it's never as good as homemade and often feels a waste of money. Had a Chinese tonight, rest of family loved it. Mine was lukewarm, oily and left a horrible taste in my mouth.

YouBringLightInToADarkPlace · 30/12/2020 23:55

We live in the middle of nowhere, no uber, no justeat, it's a 20 minute round trip to the nearest handful of takeaways in the little town nearby and they're all average or worse...
I miss a good takeaway- it's been at least a year and probably more... have one for me 😔

Notcontent · 31/12/2020 00:16

I used to love takeaways but now find them a bit disappointing and yes, they are hugely high in salt and fat. We get one occasionally if I really can’t face cooking but feel like a substantial meal. Also, teen DD gets excited about takeaways!

Zerrin13 · 31/12/2020 00:38

Love a good takeaway

LoveMyKidsAndCats · 31/12/2020 00:41

Yanbu I cooked today so takeaway tomorrow cannot wait for a Chinese
