Rejected from job interview but it's been readvertised 2 months later

Hello,
I won't be applying for this job as I didn't feel a click at the interview.
Just wondering, I received an interview for this job during October.
I went to it and then received an email 6 hours later saying I was unsuccessful.

Just been scrolling through job sites and the exact same job is being advertised 2 montbs later(same hours, same pay, same description).

Why could this be?

OP posts:
Atrixie · 27/12/2020 20:19

Because they didn’t find the right person during the first round of interviews I expect

Shoxfordian · 27/12/2020 20:19

There’s another vacancy
The person who was successful left
Nobody was appointed so they need to readvertise

HilaryBriss · 27/12/2020 20:19

Probably because none of the candidates interviewed were what they were looking for. Or it could be that the person that did get the job either changed their mind shortly before starting or left just after starting.

dairyswim · 27/12/2020 20:19

Well it's either a readvertisement because there were no suitable candidates first time round or the successful candidate has already handed in their notice.

Lemmeout · 27/12/2020 20:22

Ask them for feedback ?,

Lemmeout · 27/12/2020 20:24

Or more than 1 vacancy

Hopdathelf · 27/12/2020 20:24

You weren’t right for the job and neither were the other candidates. They’re not obliged to hire anyone.

Fuckstickss · 27/12/2020 20:24

We often do this if we don't find a suitable applicant the first time.

WorraLiberty · 27/12/2020 20:24

Why? Because obviously they didn't find the right person the first time around.

Or maybe they did but they quit for a better offer.

safariboot · 27/12/2020 20:29

Either they hired someone who quickly left or got sacked.

Or they want big skills and experience for little pay, and are too stubborn to raise the salary offer.

ArrowsOfMistletoe · 27/12/2020 20:33

Readvertising a post because none of those interviewed were suitable isn't all that unusual. It's a risk, because advertising costs money - but so does filling a post with someone who turns out not to be up to the job.

SantasAnus · 27/12/2020 20:34

If you didn't feel the click, the employers won't have either.

They may not have found the right candidate
The person they did want may have turned the job down
Someone may have started and not been suitable.

Nohomemadecandles · 27/12/2020 20:35

Because they haven't found anyone yet. Or they have more than one vacancy. Or someone else left.

Not rocket science, that one, really.

DrDreReturns · 27/12/2020 20:37

As pp said they didn't find the right person. We've been recruiting for a position for a few months and have yet to find someone suitable after several interviews.

Merryoldgoat · 27/12/2020 20:38

Depends but we’ve had people pull out just before they’re due to start so we’ve had to start again.

Thegirlhasnoname · 27/12/2020 20:40

Where I work (NHS), we employed a new part time person on a permanent contract that started back in September. She gave her notice in at the beginning of December as she got a trainee solicitor post elsewhere. Now advertising for another post.

Or it could be that they filled the original vacancy but an existing team member is due to go on a secondment or maternity leave so they need somebody else to cover

Hoppinggreen · 27/12/2020 20:42

A couple of years ago I Didnt get a job that I thought I was a good match for, didn’t get any feedback and I was a bit upset
I see the same job advertised roughly every 6 months which makes me think there is an issue there so while they may just not have found the right candidate OP somebody might have taken the job but then left.

VinterKvinna · 27/12/2020 20:42

@Merryoldgoat

we had a person who didnt turn up for the job and had relocated to another country... didnt let us know though
ivfbeenbusy · 27/12/2020 20:43

Doesn't take Einstein to figure this one out surely OP....no one they interviewed was suitable so they are continuing to advertise 🤷‍♀️

GirlCalledJames · 27/12/2020 20:44

The company could have multiple positions with the same job title.

n00b1 · 27/12/2020 20:45

It’s not uncommon where I work to not appoint anyone who was invited for interview because no candidates were suitable. They then have to have authorisation from recruitment to readvertise, so it can take a couple of months for it to come up again.

Womencanlift · 27/12/2020 20:46

Something similar happened to me. I saw a job I liked but by the time I went to apply for it, it had gone. A few months later I interviewed for a similar role in the same company but was actually offered the role I saw initially. When I mentioned that I had seen it but it had disappeared I was told that they had hired someone but realised they didn’t have the right level of experience so opened the role again, hence why it was made available to me

FuckOffDailyFailure · 27/12/2020 20:50

@HilaryBriss

Probably because none of the candidates interviewed were what they were looking for. Or it could be that the person that did get the job either changed their mind shortly before starting or left just after starting.
I thought of this too. I used to work in recruitment and this happened. We would offer the job and it would get accepted, then we wouldn't be able to negotiate terms we were both happy with. It wouldn't happen often, but it did happen. Also, things like someone accepting and then just changing their mind, getting a better offer or falling ill, not being able to find appropriate childcare etc.
FuckOffDailyFailure · 27/12/2020 20:51

I was also once interviewed for a job, never heard back and then got a phone call about a month later, offering the job. Turned out the person they'd hired wasn't a good fit.

Retiremental · 27/12/2020 20:59

They realised that they messed up by not hiring you and are too embarrassed to ask you to apply again so are hoping you’ve seen the ad and will apply yourself?
