I bloody hate Hermes

Not too much info as outing, but sent a parcel to a family member as we weren't able to all get together. Hermes say it was delivered on Christmas Eve, but it wasn't. I've complained but won't get a response till Tuesday at the earliest. I'm not going to be dramatic and say it's ruined Christmas, but there were things in the parcel that would be of no value to anyone else (family jokes etc) but would have just helped us feel that we were sort of together even though we weren't. Rant over.

Have they checked the bins, hedges and neighbouring houses?

I love my local Hermes driver, but understand others aren't so lucky with theirs.

XelaM · 27/12/2020 12:02

Hermes is horrendous! My sympathies

Rememberallball · 27/12/2020 12:03

Sometimes Hermes (and other courier companies) scan things as delivered when they’ve run out of time and they’ve still got them to be delivered on their next scheduled day.

ChristmasCovid · 27/12/2020 12:04

Hermes normally take a picture of where it’s been delivered. Did you/they not receive an email with a picture on it?

IrishGirl2020 · 27/12/2020 12:06

Hermes lost a Christmas present of ours too and didn’t even bother to reply to my email. Fortunately it was from John Lewis and they refunded me. The tracking said it entered the Hermes system on Dec 2 and nothing was heard about it since.
Also on our local Nextdoor someone posted a video of a Hermes delivery driver leaving a parcel on their doorstep and then coming back later (without the Hermes van) and stealing it! And have heard of loads of other similar stories this year.
I think they have a lot of problems with theft that they need to sort out. I’ve never heard anything like the same number of problems with other companies. Our local dpd drivers for example are excellent

I'm very lucky with my current MyHermes driver always delivers, in fact the last thing that was delivered he said that sounds broken do you want to open it and I can mark as damaged. It was and he marked it on his system as damaged.

I used to work for an online retailer and higher ups decided for a cost saving exercise for customers that were getting free delivery on lower basket totals we would send out via MyHermes. It lasted all of 3 months, customer service spent all day chasing lost packages and we ended up losing a lot of loyal customers.

HuggedTheRedwoods · 27/12/2020 12:54

I had a package delivered by Hermes on Christmas Eve, that had a hole ripped in one end, the outside packaging was covered in dirt with the item itself also dirty so had been outside the packaging at some point in its journey. The Hermes guy had opened the porch door without knocking and left the package without giving me chance to flag up the damage and his online photo shows the package face down so you can't see the damaged side - he knew what he was doing, tosser.

Bettina500 · 27/12/2020 12:58

As someone else has said have they checked everywhere surrounding the house? When Hermes deliver to me they throw it over my side gate and never knock or put a card through.

LivingOnAnIsland · 27/12/2020 13:00

Thank you for your replies. The parcel was sent to a drop off shop, who say they haven't had any deliveries since Wednesday. I'm really hoping that the driver just ran out of time and will deliver it today or tomorrow, rather than just ditching it somewhere, but realistically I don't think it will turn up.

Spare a thought for the delivery drivers for Hermes - it is not a good company to work for.

My poor dad had to start working for them due to no work during covid - he has been struggling so hard financially. To put it into context, my dad is in the building industry -very fit and active, used to scaling roofs for his job etc.

He also had an ankle injury at the time he started working for them. He said he's never been so exhausted in all his life. They set impossible targets, DON'T pay on time and he had to chase them to even be paid. There is just not enough hours in the day for them to get the deliveries done.

As a customer though, I completely appreciate the service is far from the best (& I do agree as I've had not great service either - although to be honest they have been better than Royal Mail plenty of times). That is a company issue though - they are completely exploiting people in difficult circumstances and completely overworking them.

I won't support Hermes anymore for that reason. If a shop automatically uses that service, I go elsewhere wherever possible.

Blowingagale · 27/12/2020 13:11

Heard some dreadful stories here about Hermes and no excuse for not explaining and noting damage or leaving in bins.

As regards Christmas Eve delivery I think it does depend when you sent it. Delivery services are always very busy this time of year. If you ordered a few weeks ago and fine to be angry. If you were doing things last minute then I don’t think you can rely on delivery even if they say a date because there is so much work especially this year.

countrygirl99 · 27/12/2020 15:07

Don't swap to Parcelforce. They are currently trying to deliver the parcel I sent to my son but the tracking says they can't find the address. The reason for that is because they are trying to deliver in Milton Keynes instead of Finland.

OxfordwillsaveusbyFebruary · 27/12/2020 15:09

Is there a photo of where they dropped it?

nosswith · 27/12/2020 15:17

I still maintain that there should be a requirement to name the parcel carrier at the time of any online sale. Hermes would have to change their ways or be out of business.

LivingOnAnIsland · 27/12/2020 15:21

No,there's no photo and I've phoned the shop where they have allegedly delivered twice - they have a big pile of parcels for Hermes to collect, and nothing has been delivered. It was quite a late booking as I was collecting things from other family members to send together - I thought one parcel would be less hassle than several! I paid for next day delivery, and if they are offering that service they should honour it.

Ugh, I really sympathise with you. Somewhere along the way of them supposedly delivering me AirPods from John Lewis, the Jiffy bag was inexplicably ripped open, so they simply posted an empty envelope through my letterbox. 😒 You can see from the picture they take at delivery the envelope is ripped before it even comes through the door. They also didn’t knock on the door.. very suspicious. Thankfully I installed a ring doorbell the week before so have all of this recorded! Unfortunately this all happened in early December, and I’m still waiting for it to be resolved. Apparently John Lewis can’t give me a refund until Hermes complete their investigation 🙄 which is good of them!

If I’d have known a company like John Lewis used Hermes before ordering an expensive item, I would have click and collected because I know their rep is terrible. I will be steering well clear of JL after this as well because the decent customer service I’d expect of them has been nonexistent.

Laiste · 27/12/2020 15:40

I'm chasing a parcel from Hermes right now too.

They tried to deliver it apparently the day before xmas eve ''but couldn't locate the address''.

Hmm

They didn't volunteer this info. by the way. I had to go on the website to their parcel tracker and discovered they were ''awaiting action by the recipient''.

Not sure what they want me to do! They have the correct address and everyone else finds it ok. It's not a bloody tree house, it's just a normal numbered house in a normal residential street. I've confirmed the address with the automated helper ....

Laiste · 27/12/2020 15:44

@TheLadyGrayson - If I’d have known a company like John Lewis used Hermes before ordering an expensive item, I would have click and collected because I know their rep is terrible.

YES! Pet Planet is the company my parcel is from. Thought i'd try to save a couple of quid by not buying from zooplus or amazon and now it's missing. If i'd known PP use Hermes i would have gone with amazon. I wont buy from them again.

LillianGish · 27/12/2020 15:57

There's been a lot of publicity about avoiding Amazon (who have been doing pretty well out of lockdown) and I have tried to do so, but have come to the conclusion that if you want something delivering they are your best bet (that's certainly been my experience this Christmas - everything sent by me and to me via Amazon has arrived swiftly. The same can't be said for other packages).

LivingOnAnIsland · 27/12/2020 18:16

I agree re Amazon, they do have a good delivery service.

TheGreatWave · 27/12/2020 18:22

A lot does depend on your local courier, mine is great. I stopped her on Christmas Eve and gave her a box of chocolates. The other local courier (going by FB posts) isn't as good.

I hope it gets sorted OP, just like I hope a parcel that was sent to me in November by Royal Mail arrives soon.

LivingOnAnIsland · 27/12/2020 18:34

My parcel has now gone backwards - it was marked as delivered on 24th December, and is now showing as with courier for delivery. Maybe all is not lost....

Delamalama · 27/12/2020 18:57

I'm a driver for hermes what does the tracking say? If it was with the courier you should have had an email saying your courier had it and it was on its way. I have been very busy but always deliver all my parcels on the day I get them, as do most of us.
Most of us are very hard working and care that the customer gets their parcels on time.

That one video with the guy delivering then stealing had done us hermes couriers no good at all! Most of us are very honest.

As for Amazon, I've found loads of their stuff on doorsteps in the pouring rain and we aren't allowed to touch them, I did put two in a black bag as they were drenched and the customer works all day.

We have to load our cars in the pouring rain and some parcles get wet, not our fault. And we receive some boxes that are just battered, I always apologise to the customer, it's embarrassing. I love my job but Hermes are an absolute shower to work for.

Delamalama · 27/12/2020 18:59

Is it showing it was delivered at midnight by any chance? I've had a few customers who were told it had been delivered at midnight and the parcel turned up the following day. Of course us couriers get the blame but I didn't have their parcels.

LivingOnAnIsland · 27/12/2020 19:13

It showed as being delivered quite late on evening of 24th and stayed like that all day on 25th and 26th and now shows as being at the local depot. @Delamalama what do you think that means? Sorry if you get stick for the mistakes of other drivers!
