Years ago nine year old DS caught me. He was fine about it, didn't tell his brothers or little cousins who he saw on Christmas Day. I was a bit gutted though.

RealisticSketch · 25/12/2020 00:26

I caught my parents when I was about 5, I don't know why but I want remotely bothered and enjoyed the game of it all anyway. Didn't spoil the magic for me.

grannyinapram · 25/12/2020 00:27

Shock that is so grown up of him, did he say anything to you after?
Not alot of kids would keep quiet

@grannyinapram he said nothing until his dad was tucking him into bed on Boxing Day. He said to his dad, in a very matter of fact way, 'Oh, I know about Santa.'

DH's reaction was 'How do I tell your mother?' Grin

TheGreatWave · 25/12/2020 00:38

DD did tonight, I did tell her though that FC had come whilst she was in the bathroom which was lucky because otherwise she would have seen him. She is 14 though so happily played along with me.

She did see us years ago getting the presents out of the loft but I think she was too sleepy to twig.

FirewomanSam · 25/12/2020 00:54

I woke up and saw my parents doing my stocking when I was about 8 I think. I kept quiet and pretended to be asleep, and I don’t think I actually told either of them about it until I was in my 30s or so! Grin

I think by that age I had already more or less figured it out anyway. I was getting quite suspicious and looking out for ‘clues’ that it might be them. I remember my mum would carefully wrap the Santa presents in different paper to our main presents, but one year she had used some of the Santa paper to decorate something at our church’s Christmas fair. She probably figured I wouldn’t notice or remember but I was a very observant child with a memory like glue so I put two and two together and became suspicious. I still went along with it for years though because I had younger siblings and because I never wanted to upset my parents by telling them I knew.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 25/12/2020 01:02

People actually tell their 14yo children that Santa still exists Confused

I'm pretty sure I've never believed and found a letter to Santa I wrote in my mum's desk when I was 5 - I was fine it just confirmed what I already knewZ

Clevererthanyou · 25/12/2020 01:07

Glummy - yes, why not? Does life have to be infinitely fucking depressing as soon as kids hit their teens or something?
My 28 year old autistic brother in law still firmly believes in Santa, its my MIL obviously but when he eventually lives with us I'll keep it going into his seventies if he's happy.

PapsofJura · 25/12/2020 01:07

Very nearly tonight but thankfully the stuff was behind the door and we stopped them coming in just in time! Phew!

chocolatepowder · 25/12/2020 01:10

One of mine set up a recording camera tonight. I found it just in time!!

DramaAlpaca · 25/12/2020 01:14

A recording camera?!! Clever kid Grin

ChristmasPerfectionist · 25/12/2020 01:14

@chocolatepowder have they been watching Christmas Chronicles by any chance? You’ve just inspired me to go down and check none of my little monkeys have left iPads recording anything.

I’m glad it’s now late enough that if they wake up I can at least say oh he’s been but we can’t open till morning!

GlummyMcGlummerson · 25/12/2020 01:15

Well, because she's 14 and presumably know he's not real? Sorry but I just don't know who it benefits keeping it up for that long. Obviously your BIL has additional needs and that's different.

Xmas Shock OMG! What a monkey! A very clever little monkey! Xmas Grin
RainbowRaine · 25/12/2020 01:16

@chocolatepowder How old are they? Where was the camera?

grannyinapram · 25/12/2020 01:17

@GlummyMcGlummerson My mum still tells me santa is real and I'm doing it myself!

I caught my parents when I was about 5 or 6. Mum was dressed in a red dress she hadn't been wearing earlier. Played along for ages so the stocking didn't stop.

I was super worried when I was about 4 that he wouldn't come as I was up all night with croup, drs visits etc. He came as it wasn't my fault.

Not sure I wasn't caught just now. 5yo turned over as I was depositing her stocking. Hopefully just restless - she fell out of bed earlier!

duckinatruckwithmuck · 25/12/2020 01:33

14 year old still believes in FC?! 🥴😂

Foghead · 25/12/2020 01:40

Mine caught dh once. To be fair ds1 was about 11 so it’s not like he believed in Santa.
Dh made up so crazy story of how he heard a noise, came to investigate and low and behold, it was Santa. But ds1 just missed him as he just left.
It was all a bit of a joke of course but we still carry it on and they play along.

GroundAlmonds · 25/12/2020 01:43

Caught my parents when I was six. So our stockings have always been hung in the living room. Easier for Father Christmas.

BlueCheckedTeatowel · 25/12/2020 01:44

5 years ago we were on holiday for christmas so the setup was a bit different. i was laying things out in the villa at about 1am when I noticed DD8 stood behind me watching. I panicked and told her she caught me sneaking a peak and opening one. She clearly wasnt buying it so I convinced her to open one of hers too and I wouldnt tell anyone. We then rewrapped them and went off to bed.

I still have no idea how long she was behind me and if she believed me.

LouiseBelchersBunnyEars · 25/12/2020 01:52

The 14 year old obviously doesn’t still believe in Santa still.
It’s a bit of panto like fun.
It’s the same with my DC.

We all know we all know, but it’s just a bit of fun.

Honestly, how do people get by, having to have things spelled out for them in big neon letters all the time.

Stompythedinosaur · 25/12/2020 01:58

I'm assuming the 14yo is playing along with that family joke! I have every intention of continuing to insist santa is real in a jokey way when my dc are old enough to know he isn't real, it sounds lovely.

PastaPins · 25/12/2020 02:11

The 14 year old will end up getting picked on Sad
